This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng led the frustrated Yu Haiting out, but after taking just two steps, Du Heng stopped abruptly. ”Right, if your wife gets better after taking the medicine, you have to apologize to our Director Yu, understand?”

”Fine, as long as it’s like what you said, I’ll definitely apologize to him, even if it means kowtowing.”

”Don’t be shameless with me; just say sorry respectfully. Also, no matter what the situation, which hospital, or which doctor you can find, there’s no need to insist on seeing only your attending doctor, got it?”

With that, he stopped paying attention to the man and turned to leave.

But instead of going to the consultation room or office, Du Heng went straight to the nurse station on the second floor.

”Lili, find the on-duty roster for this floor from last night.”

Hearing Du Heng’s furious voice, Wang Lili looked at Du Heng in surprise; this was the first time she had ever seen him so angry.

Soon, the on-duty roster from last night was handed to Du Heng. He scanned the familiar and unfamiliar names, his eyes almost overflowing with anger.

”Lili, do you nurses have to do a ward round before going to bed at night?”

”Of course, we have to check all the rooms before 10:30 p.m. Even when we rest, we take turns, so not everyone goes to sleep at the same time.” Wang Lili didn’t know what had happened, but from Du Heng’s words, she knew that there must have been a lapse by the on-duty nurse.

Du Heng slapped the roster onto the desk. ”Last night, the patient in Bed 31 experienced dizziness, backache, and sleeplessness in the latter half of the night. Did you know? Did you record it? Did you notify anyone?”

Wang Lili glanced at the record, which noted no abnormalities, and her heart trembled fiercely.

She didn’t know about the on-duty situation, but she knew what had just happened. Yu Haiting was following Du Heng, the bruises on the corners of his mouth and eyes still clearly visible.

Before she could think further, Du Heng said directly, ”This is your job; I won’t interfere. However, I expect to see your report on how this is handled by this afternoon. Also, if anything like this happens again, I’ll come looking for you directly.”

After speaking to Wang Lili, Du Heng turned to Yu Haiting. ”The list is here. Investigate it yourself, and deal with the doctor’s issue yourself. Likewise, tell me the result by the afternoon.”

This incident was definitely not the first time it had happened, or perhaps he was the only one who didn’t know.

Everyone was still following the management and work model from last year. There was a bit of a pushover mentality all around, and Du Heng himself was no exception.

But today’s events told him that such laissez-faire management was highly inappropriate, especially now that the medical staff at the Health Clinic numbered nearly fifty.

Back in the consultation room, Du Heng had Yu Haiting transfer the patient directly to him, relieving Yu Haiting of responsibility for this patient.

In the consultation room, Wu Buwei stood beside Du Heng, watching him furiously typing out the diagnosis, hesitating to speak.

He had witnessed today’s events from beginning to end and was crystal clear about the problems. However, he was now unsure whether or not to spill the beans to Du Heng.

”Senior Brother, today...”

”Let today’s events pass. Just do your job well; other matters are not your concern.”

Wu Buwei let out a soft sigh of relief. Alright, no need to be a snitch.

He then curiously asked Du Heng, ”Senior Brother, what exactly is the matter with the patient? Did Director Yu really make a mistake in his treatment?”

”Well, you could say he was right, or you could say he was wrong.”

Wu Buwei scratched his head, a little puzzled. Diagnosing illnesses and prescribing medicine should be straightforward—either right or wrong. How could there be such an ambiguous statement? ”What do you mean? I don’t quite understand.”

”The patient has been taking Liver-Settling Wind-Extinguishing Decoction and Antelope Gouteng Decoction, both treatments for yin deficiency, for a long time. This caused the patient to deplete her original yang, leading to an excess of yin in the lower body and resulting in her current symptoms.

Yu’s medication focused on reducing blood pressure and treating palpitations. The patient’s current state is just a normal physiological reaction. Once her blood pressure goes down, she’ll be fine.

However, Yu didn’t address the root cause, so the patient’s condition will only continue to relapse.

When Yu prescribed medication, she’d be fine for a couple of days. Without it, she’d immediately worsen.”

Wu Buwei frowned slightly. ”Senior Brother, from what you’re saying, the patient doesn’t have yin deficiency?”

Du Heng quickly finished typing, then turned to face Wu Buwei directly. ”This condition is actually very interesting. If the root cause isn’t addressed, it won’t be fatal, but it will become an extremely tormenting illness.

Western medicine treatment is also possible, but it requires continuous medication to control blood pressure. Once the medication wears off, blood pressure will inevitably rise. Moreover, with prolonged drug use, her body’s drug resistance will increase, leading to an increase in dosage, and then she will slowly be tormented to death.

If treated with traditional Chinese medicine using the wrong prescription—continuing to treat for yin deficiency—it will only exacerbate the patient’s various symptoms. She will feel dizzy whether her eyes are open or closed, and eventually, this will lead to incontinence. However, it won’t kill her outright.”

Wu Buwei looked helplessly at Du Heng. ”Senior Brother, you still haven’t answered my question. Doesn’t the patient have yin deficiency?”

Du Heng relaxed a little, leaned back, and said, ”The patient’s tongue is pale and swollen, with a thick, greasy white coating. Their pulse is surging but weakens under prolonged pressure, feeling fine and faint.”
