This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wu Shengnan suddenly became shy, covering her face with the quilt like a lunatic.

Gu Ping looked dumbstruck, like an idiot, his eyes wide open as he stared at Du Heng, and he even swallowed hard.

Only Sir Wu Zhong seemed normal, his face filled with joy as he looked at Du Heng, who was still holding forth.

Moreover, the smile at the corner of his mouth kept widening, and the light in his eyes grew brighter and brighter.

Hearing his granddaughter being praised so effusively by Du Heng, Sir felt proud and happy.

However, as Du Heng’s flattery became increasingly excessive, almost nauseating, and he seemed to be losing control, Sir quickly interrupted him, ”Alright, alright, that’s enough.”

”Sir, I’m not finished yet,” Du Heng said discontentedly. ”In my eyes, Nannan is the most beautiful girl. All the complimentary adjectives in the world are not enough to describe even a fraction of her worth in my heart.”

Sir Wu Zhong chuckled, coughed twice, then looked at Du Heng earnestly and asked, ”Is Nannan really like that in your eyes?”

”Of course. How could I possibly lie to you, Sir?” Du Heng declared, patting his chest confidently.

”Truly?” Sir Wu Zhong pressed.

Du Heng replied with utmost seriousness, ”Absolutely. Every word is from my heart.”

”Since Nannan is so wonderful in your eyes, why not try dating her? I’m very impressed with you, young man. If you two can make it work, our whole family will approve.”

What?!

What?!

What?!

The expressions of all three people present changed instantly.

Gu Ping’s stunned expression turned to envy. He was all too familiar with Wu Shengnan’s family situation. If Du Heng really succeeded, it wouldn’t just be a matter of saving thirty years of struggle; it would be a direct leap to the top.

Wu Shengnan’s shyness turned to panic. Just moments ago, she had been plotting how to get even with Du Heng. Even though his praise had made her blush, she hadn’t abandoned that thought. How could I possibly date *him*?

Du Heng’s smile froze. He looked utterly stupefied, unable to utter a word for a long moment. And in that instant, a phrase surfaced in his mind, though it was far from complimentary this time.

He had cornered himself!

Wearing a stiff smile, he glanced at Wu Shengnan’s shocked and resistant expression. A wave of irritation washed over Du Heng. Is she looking down on me?

Unable to help himself, he blurted out, ”We can give it a try.”

But as soon as he spoke, Du Heng regretted it.

He’d gotten carried away again!

Sir was overjoyed. ”Excellent, excellent! It’s settled then. You two give it a try.”

The moment he finished speaking, Wu Shengnan cried out anxiously, ”I don’t agree!”

Hearing Wu Shengnan’s frantic protest, Du Heng, though feeling a pang of discomfort, was also inwardly relieved. This gets me off the hook. He quickly said to Sir, ”Sir, you see? Nannan doesn’t agree. Besides, in my heart, Nannan is perfect. I don’t think I’m worthy of her.”

”Nonsense! When it comes to dating, there’s no such thing as who’s good enough for whom,” Sir’s expression hardened. He shot Wu Shengnan a fierce glare, warning her to keep quiet.

Seeing Sir’s unwavering attitude, Du Heng felt a little cornered and could only quickly say, ”Sir, I’m already thirty years old and still without a house. It wouldn’t be right for Nannan to have to return to the village with me, would it? Nannan is a precious princess and shouldn’t have to endure such hardship.”

While refusing, Du Heng didn’t forget to tease Wu Shengnan.

But Sir waved his hand dismissively. ”What’s wrong with going back to the village? You both have cars now, and transportation is convenient. That’s not an issue at all. Besides, a house with its own courtyard in the village is spacious and comfortable—much better than being crammed into these hive-like high-rises. And another thing, do you think our family can’t afford to give you a house?”

As he spoke, he shot his granddaughter another angry look. ”Look down on you? What right does she have to look down on you? You’re not good enough for her? I’m more worried about whether *she’s* good enough for *you*!”

Then, with a decisive wave of his hand, he declared, ”You two go ahead and try dating. Don’t worry about a thing. I have the final say in this matter!”

Sir’s words were incredibly authoritative, especially that last sentence. It actually made Du Heng feel a surge of relief.

However, this resolute attitude from Sir put Du Heng in a very awkward position.

He then racked his brain, desperately trying to come up with his own shortcomings.

Du: ”I’m older.”

Sir Wu Zhong: ”Older men are more caring.”

Du: ”My job location is remote.”

Sir Wu Zhong: ”That’s all for serving the people.”

Du: ”My education level is low.”

Sir Wu Zhong: ”Practical ability at work is what truly matters.”

Du: ”My family is poor, and I can’t afford betrothal gifts.”

Sir Wu Zhong: ”That’s not needed. When you two marry, we’ll provide a car and a house as her dowry.”

...

Du Heng dredged up every conceivable flaw he could think of, but Sir refuted each one. Even his ridiculous excuse about snoring was countered with, ”What man doesn’t snore in his sleep?”

Du Heng was out of excuses. He turned his gaze to Wu Shengnan, hoping to gauge her reaction.

Simultaneously, however, Sir Wu Zhong also fixed his gaze on Wu Shengnan. His eyes, sharp as daggers, warned her that if she dared utter a single word of refusal, he would absolutely give her a resounding slap.

This glare not only terrified Wu Shengnan but also intimidated Du Heng.

He knew that if he dared to admit now that all his earlier praise had been false, Sir, judging by his current demeanor, would either explode with rage or give Du Heng a couple of hard slaps himself.

Furthermore, if he really did provoke Sir to the point of exploding, he would have genuinely and thoroughly offended the Wu family.
