This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Sister, go back now. During your time at the Health Clinic, don’t worry about any work. Just keep an eye on the two new girls and make sure nothing goes wrong. I’ll take care of you and the baby; I’ll check on you every day. When your due date approaches, you can take your leave then. What do you think?”

Wang Zhenzhen’s work was unlike others’, particularly since the Health Clinic was currently undergoing rapid development. The daily accounting was extremely troublesome, and they truly couldn’t manage without her. Finding a temporary replacement would be both time-consuming and challenging. Not only would they likely only stay for a few months, but their competence would also be a significant concern.

Wang Zhenzhen shot Du Heng a light glare, a silent pardon for the two who had conspired to deceive her. ”I came to talk about this. I don’t need to take time off now, but I’ll have to take leave at the end of the month. Given our current situation, the financial records can’t just be shelved until I return.

So, I came to discuss this with you. I’d like to gradually hand over my responsibilities to Dong Yan this month. That way, when I take my maternity leave, it won’t affect the Health Clinic’s operations. What do you think?

Moreover, I currently handle all the Health Clinic’s finances—both accounts and cash—by myself. The assessment is coming up soon, and this arrangement is definitely not compliant with regulations. So, if we let Dong Yan handle the bookkeeping while I manage the funds, we’ll have a separation of duties for the accounts and cash. That will also look better during the assessment.”

Du Heng thought her proposal made sense, but he still asked blankly, ”Who is this Dong Yan? What does she do?”

Wang Zhenzhen rolled her eyes at Du Heng. ”She’s the newcomer in charge of medical insurance calculation. She even spoke to you when you first came back.”

Du Heng racked his brain, trying to match a face to the name. ”Isn’t she the girl in the furthest corner of the registration office, the one with the ponytail that swings back and forth?”

”Yes, that’s her. So, what do you think of my proposal?”

”Yes, that’s perfectly fine. But after you finalize the arrangements, please inform Cui Guanghaia as well. I’ve assigned all the hospital facility construction work to him.”

”Understood.”

After their discussion, they walked out, one after the other.

Wang Zhenzhen was now at a stage where she needed to support her back to walk, and could only move very slowly. ”Xiao Heng, do you think I’ll have a son first, or a daughter first?”

Du Heng, carrying his bag, walked beside her and asked with a smile, ”How do you know you’re having a boy and a girl? Couldn’t it be two sons, or two daughters?”

Wang Zhenzhen also laughed. ”I should be asking you. You’re the one who told us.”

Du Heng paused, surprised. ”When did I tell you?” He raised an eyebrow. ”Was it Xiao Liu from the Inspection Department, when you had your check-up at our Health Clinic? That kid! I specifically told him not to reveal the fetus’s gender to anyone, not even if you asked. I can’t believe he’s so loose-lipped. This is unacceptable!”

Wang Zhenzhen glanced back at Du Heng. Seeing he looked a bit angry, she quickly spoke up for Xiao Liu. ”Don’t blame him. I did ask that young man, but he’s very tight-lipped; no amount of intimidation worked. Even when I pressed him hard, he just said it wasn’t his place to say and told me to ask you directly.”

Du Heng let out a sigh of relief. That was more like it.

The matter of a fetus’s gender could be trivial or significant. Parents who weren’t particular about whether it was a boy or a girl rarely asked, preferring to keep a sliver of anticipation. However, for parents who were very concerned, if they found out the fetus’s gender and then something undesirable occurred—and they then blabbed about it, or if word got out and someone reported it—Xiao Liu would lose his job, and he might even face penalties. The Health Clinic itself would also undoubtedly bear inescapable responsibility. Especially at this critical juncture with the assessment ongoing, if such an incident occurred, a full year of Du Heng and his team’s hard work would go down the drain.

”Then tell me properly, how did you know you were having a boy and a girl?”

”Gong told me. He said you told him.”

Du Heng was startled. ”When did I tell him?”

”On New Year’s Eve, when you were performing bone setting on him. You said you would ensure the safety of the son and daughter in my belly.”

Did I say that? Du Heng was puzzled; he genuinely couldn’t recall saying that.

Wang Zhenzhen asked with a smile, ”Xiao Heng, are you sure it’s a boy and a girl?”

Du Heng shook his head. ”I don’t know. Sister, you know this isn’t something we can discuss. Besides, neither you nor Gong are fixated on having a son, so please don’t ask anymore. We’re so close now; just let the mystery remain until the very end, okay?”

Wang Zhenzhen looked at Du Heng, clearly displeased, but she knew the regulations and didn’t press him further.

Just then, they reached Du Heng’s car. Du Heng told Wang Zhenzhen to watch her step, then he pulled open his car door, ready to get in.

But before he could even get his foot in the car, Yu Haiting called out from the back door, ”Dean, it’s good you haven’t left yet! Please come take a look at this patient first. I have a bad feeling about this one.”

Hearing Yu Haiting’s voice, Du Heng instinctively pulled his foot back.

Walking towards Yu Haiting, he asked, ”What happened?”

Yu Haiting’s brows furrowed slightly. ”Xiao Zheng admitted a patient yesterday who presented with a fever, lack of strength, and joint pain. We initially thought it was a cold, and Xiao Zheng administered cold medication, but the treatment hasn’t been very effective.”
