This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng didn’t finish speaking, looking instead at Yu Haiting.

After all, this was Yu Haiting’s patient, and it would be disrespectful for him to dictate too much.

Yu Haiting glanced at the computer before turning to Du Heng and asking, ”Dean, with the patient in this condition, you should be able to do a reduction, right?”

Du Heng’s eyes had been on the film the whole time. After hearing Yu Haiting’s question, he stared at it for another two seconds before replying, ”I can do a manual reduction, no problem.”

Yu Haiting nodded and then looked at Liang Yichang. ”For the patient’s current condition—a transverse fracture in the middle part of the humeral shaft with slight displacement—there are two solutions.

First is conservative treatment: traditional Chinese medicine bone setting, then external plaster fixation.

The second is surgery.

However, in cases like this, we usually opt for conservative treatment with manual reduction.”

Liang Yichang looked at Du Heng. ”Du, what do you think?”

”There’s no damage to the blood vessels or muscles, so surgery isn’t necessary. Let’s go with conservative treatment. I can perform the reduction for Auntie, and then a plaster cast for fixation should be sufficient.”

Liang Yichang hesitated for a moment, then suddenly asked, ”You were the one who treated Zhu Heizi’s leg last year, right?”

”Yes, that was me.”

”Alright, then you treat my mother.” He glanced at his own mother. ”Shouldn’t you give her a pain-relief injection or something first? Mom looks like she’s in a lot of pain right now.”

”No need. Anesthesia will be given during the reduction. She just needs to bear with it a bit.”

Yu Haiting answered for Du Heng, then picked up the phone to call Xiao Li, asking him to prepare the plaster fixation board and other necessary supplies.

The humerus is surrounded by thick muscles, like the biceps brachii and triceps brachii. Although it’s only a transverse fracture, it’s more complicated to treat than other fractures Du Heng has handled, mainly because it’s so strenuous.

Even though Liang Yichang’s mother was very thin, she still had the necessary musculature around her humerus.

So, for the reduction, Du Heng called Wu Buwei over directly. With Yu Haiting and Xiao Li, the four of them worked together, applying counter-traction from various angles. They had to be careful not to use too much force, fearing damage to the radial nerve. It took a tremendous effort, but they successfully completed the reduction.

After applying an external medicinal paste to the swollen and bruised area, they immobilized it with a splint.

”Go home and make sure she rests well. She needs to eat more nutritious food to recover,” Du Heng reminded Liang Yichang while applying the bandage.

”Auntie is a bit thin and weak. According to what you’ve said and my assessment of the injury, the impact wasn’t very forceful. However, she has a transverse fracture of the humerus, and her bones also seem a bit brittle.

So, you must be very diligent about her nutrition. If her body is strong and her nutrition is good, the bone will heal more quickly.”

At this point, Liang Yichang’s wife suddenly interjected, ”I think the driver should pay for this. He’s the one who injured my mother when his car flipped.”

Du Heng gave the woman a quick glance but said nothing, continuing to apply the bandage meticulously.

Liang Yichang frowned, looked at his wife, and said, ”Don’t talk nonsense. Mom chose to take that car herself. Why should he pay you?”

His wife rolled her eyes. ”If he doesn’t pay, I’ll sue him! I saw on my phone about a case. Someone was getting a ride home in a fellow villager’s car, they had an accident, and the driver had to pay that fellow villager 50,000 yuan.

I’m not asking for much, just 5,000 yuan. That’s enough to cover Mom’s medical expenses and nutritional supplements.”

Liang Yichang was slightly tempted but still said, ”We’re all from the same village. If you do this, how will we face anyone? What will the others say about us?”

His wife glared at him. ”It’s all about saving face, leading to unnecessary sufferings! He caused the accident, so why shouldn’t he compensate us? And I’m not asking for 50,000 or 100,000 yuan, just enough money for Mom’s medical bills and supplements. What’s wrong with that?”

Du Heng never interfered with their conversation. After finishing the bandage, he began to prescribe internal medicine. Yu Haiting, meanwhile, kept his mouth tightly shut, not uttering a single word.

At that moment, Liang Yichang was clearly swayed by his wife, but he still couldn’t quite bring himself to do it. Ask for money, and he feared gossip. Don’t ask, and he’d have to pay it himself—that pained his heart. Plus, his wife’s nagging gave him a headache.

Suddenly, he turned his gaze to Du Heng. In his mind, Du Heng was a prominent figure and a leader in Central Lake. He’d ask him. If Du Heng said to demand the money, he would. If Du Heng advised against it, then he wouldn’t.

Having made up his mind, he asked Du Heng, ”Du, what do you think? Should I ask for the money? Give me some advice.”

After writing the prescription in his hand and handing the house to Liang Yichang, Du Heng said jokingly, ”I’d rather not give any advice. I’m afraid if it’s not good advice, you’ll sue me too.”
