This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Understanding his niece’s little scheme, Du Heng pulled out 2,000 yuan from the bag and handed it to Du Xuejing.

Her eyes lit up when she received the money, her pitiful expression gone in an instant. Before she had time to fully revel in her delight, her mobile phone went DING again.

Seeing Du Heng with his mobile phone, Du Xuejing excitedly checked her mobile phone and, as she guessed, Du Heng had transferred her money.

3,000 yuan!

Together with the cash, it amounted to 5,000 yuan!

She was rich!

Du Xuejing was so overjoyed her back molars almost burst out. She hugged Du Heng tightly and said, ”Little Uncle, you’re too cute.”

Du Heng pushed Du Xuejing away with a disgusted look on his face and pointed at his mobile phone, ”That cash is for Liu Amei, not a single cent is for you. The 3,000 yuan transfer is your salary for this month. If you want to spend money, you can only spend your own money.”

Unfazed by Du Heng’s rejection, Du Xuejing gleefully counted the money and said, ”Don’t worry, Little Uncle, I’m not that kind of person. Little Uncle, since this is my salary, will I have another paycheck at the end of the month before I leave?”

”No,” Du Heng replied bluntly.

”Ah~~? Why not?”

Looking at his niece’s sudden mood shift, Du Heng gave a faint smile and said, ”There won’t be a salary, but there will be a bonus. As long as you pass the end-of-month assessment, I’ll give you a bonus.”

Her eyes widened, ”There’s really going to be an assessment? Do I have to participate too?”

Du Heng chuckled but didn’t respond, instead pushing Du Xuejing out the door, ”Go ask for leave from your supervisor, and then come find Liu Amei.”

After sending Du Xuejing away, Du Heng walked towards Liu Amei’s hospital room.

After yesterday’s events, Liu Amei was in a great mood today. When Du Heng entered the hospital room, she was tidying her sick bed and humming a light tune.

”Doctor Du, you’re here,” Liu Amei’s face broke into a smile as soon as she saw Du Heng.

Seeing her like this, Du Heng also grinned, ”Have you taken your medication this morning?”

”Yes, Nurse Liu brought it to me early.”

”That’s good.” Du Heng nodded.

After organizing his thoughts, Du Heng asked, ”Doctor Wu told you about being discharged tomorrow, right?”

As soon as discharge was mentioned, Liu Amei’s spirits quickly dampened.

She had been deliberately avoiding the topic because it left her feeling utterly lost, unsure of where to go or what to do.

However, the issue wouldn’t vanish simply because she evaded it. She had to face it now.

Liu Amei’s smile disappeared as she lowered her gaze to her toes and fiddled absent-mindedly with her fingers like a helpless child. Her voice now subdued, she said, ”Yes, Doctor Wu has already told me.”

Du Heng felt cruel, but couldn’t allow Liu Amei to stay in the hospital forever. It wasn’t practical.

”Do you have any plans for after being discharged?”

”No.”

”Have you thought about going home?”

Liu Amei gave a bitter laugh, ”Home? Which home? Do I still have one?”

Her words left Du Heng speechless, his heart heavy.

Where could she go? What could she do?

Du Heng, who was well-acquainted with Liu Amei’s family situation, was at a loss.

During her month and a half in the hospital, her husband hadn’t called once. It was as if she were already dead to him.

As for her parents, Du Heng had heard that one of their calls had lasted less than a minute. After hanging up, Liu Amei had remained in a stupor for an hour.

Could she even return to a family like this?

Moreover, Liu Amei had only graduated from junior high school and had no valuable skills.

In the end, Du Heng proposed the solution he had found for Liu Amei, ”Have you thought about staying in Jinzhou?”

Liu Amei shook her head, not taking her eyes off her toes.

Looking at her toes, her mind suddenly wandered.

Two months ago, it seemed like she couldn’t even see her own toes. Now, she could not only see her toes, but even her ankles were clearly visible.

Having been given a new lease on life, what couldn’t she let go of or overcome?

Thinking of this, her lips curled into a slight smile.

Du Heng didn’t know what Liu Amei was thinking and continued speaking, ”Our Health Clinic has many hospitalized elderly and disabled patients. Considering our remote location, we need nursing aides to help care for them.

If you don’t mind the hard work, you could try staying here. Our Health Clinic can provide you with a dormitory, so you won’t have to look for housing outside.

Plus, it would be convenient for your follow-up treatments if you stayed here. What do you think?”

No sooner had Du Heng finished speaking than Liu Amei nodded in agreement without any hesitation.

This arrangement was the best one for her at the moment.

Seeing her nod, Du Heng let out a small sigh of relief, ”Alright, it’s settled then. Pack your things, and Tingting will accompany you for a stroll downtown later.”

Liu Amei wanted to express her gratitude, but as soon as she opened her mouth, Du Heng had already left the hospital room. She could only swallow back the two words ”Thank you.”

Leaving the hospital room, Du Heng went straight to Cui Guanghaia and asked him to arrange Liu Amei’s affairs. After receiving a response, Du Heng rushed off to Provincial First Hospital.
