This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wu Shengnan’s mother didn’t cry out loud, and her voice was very soft as she spoke, using an extremely calm tone to describe her own unsettled feelings.

”Although my son was injured, at least he’s working in an office now, not risking his life every day. But this little rascal of mine went and found himself a daughter-in-law who’s a SWAT officer.”

Wu Shengnan’s mother wiped away a tear and continued, ”At first, I didn’t agree at all. And I just wanted to know one thing: why didn’t he like any of the girls with good looks and character I introduced to him from my workplace?

”But I couldn’t go against their whole family; from old to young, not a single one of them supported me.

”Fine, a SWAT officer it is. Anyway, not many dangerous things happen in our area. But she’s so busy, busier than her father-in-law, who’s a Secretary, and busier than me, her mother-in-law who’s a department manager in a state-owned enterprise. She’s been married to my son for five years, has never cooked him a meal, and still hasn’t had a child.”

Wu Shengnan’s mother was full of grievances, and the more she spoke, the more her tears flowed. ”Fine, work requires it; I can understand. But Nannan, this girl of mine, insisted on becoming a police officer after graduation too.

”And not just any police officer; like her father, she insisted on joining a front-line team. Do you know, she was afraid I’d stop her if I found out, so she conspired with the entire family to deceive me.

”If she hadn’t disappeared before the New Year, making her uncontactable, and if I hadn’t forcefully questioned her father and brother, no one would have told me.”

The more Wu Shengnan’s mother spoke, the more heartbroken she became. Her voice, originally calm, finally began to choke and tremble. ”Am I such an unreasonable person? How could they see me like that?

”If I were unreasonable, would my son have been able to join a front-line team? Could he have married a wife who’s a SWAT officer?

”If I were unreasonable, Wu Shengnan wouldn’t even be able to become a police officer, let alone join a front-line team.”

Hearing her shout Wu Shengnan’s full name, Du Heng knew the elegant and intelligent Auntie before him was truly furious.

However, with this outburst, Wu Shengnan’s mother’s emotions finally stabilized.

She took the tissues Du Heng kept handing her, wiped her tears, and gradually became more composed. ”Xiao Du, Auntie knows you’re a good child, and I know this isn’t your fault. You don’t need to blame yourself. Nannan brought this upon herself.

”Just treat her as you see fit; don’t feel any mental burden.”

From this moment, Wu Shengnan’s mother’s way of addressing Du Heng also began to change.

It was unclear whether she now recognized the friendship between him and Wu Shengnan, or if she simply wanted Du Heng to treat Nannan without any burden.

Du Heng didn’t dwell on it, simply saying with certainty, ”Don’t worry, Auntie. I will treat her diligently and try to save as many of her toes as possible.”

Wu Shengnan’s mother nodded, expressing her approval of Du Heng. ”Xiao Du, I just want to ask one thing: if she loses her toes, will it affect the rest of her life?”

This question made Du Heng feel very uncomfortable.

Just a short while ago, he had joked with Wu Shengnan that if he pricked the nerves in her foot, it would make her hop when she walked. He hadn’t expected it to actually come true.

Although she wouldn’t be hopping, her gait would be unsteady.

Du Heng took a deep breath and slowly said to Wu Shengnan’s mother, ”If all five toes are lost, it will definitely affect her walking, causing a limp.”

Before he could finish, Wu Shengnan’s mother’s tears welled up again.

She truly couldn’t imagine her daughter walking with a limp.

Du Heng sighed, but continued, ”If it’s the toes other than the big toe, the impact isn’t as significant. It would just take some getting used to. Other than not being able to run, normal walking wouldn’t be much of a problem.”

At these words, a glimmer of hope appeared in Wu Shengnan’s mother’s eyes.

But Du Heng pretended not to see it and continued, ”But if it’s the big toe, the impact is not much different from losing all five toes.

”That’s because when people walk and move, the foot has three points of support, and the big toe area is one of them. So, after an amputation of the big toe, this three-point support structure of the foot is destroyed, which can easily lead to instability while walking, causing weakness in the foot and a limp.”

Wu Shengnan’s mother wasn’t frightened by this statement but asked with continued hope, ”Then, can Nannan’s big toe be saved?”

Du Heng didn’t know how to answer.

Regardless of which toes Wu Shengnan might keep, the big toe was definitely lost.

Du Heng was now absolutely certain of this.

And Du Heng’s hesitation made Wu Shengnan’s mother understand. She asked no more questions and then rose, intending to leave.

Du Heng hurriedly called out, ”Auntie, please don’t rush off. I called you here because I have something else to discuss.”

Wu Shengnan’s mother wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes again and managed a smile for Du Heng. ”Go on, I’m listening.”

Du Heng took his bag and retrieved an ointment he had prepared. ”Auntie, this is an ointment I prepared myself. It can be used as a lubricant and also has the effect of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis.

”Whenever you have time, apply this ointment to Nannan’s lower leg and toes, and then keep massaging them for her. This will help her recovery.”

Wu Shengnan’s mother, regaining her composure, took the ointment from Du Heng’s hand. ”Do I just rub it on, or are there specific massage techniques I should use?”
