This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Although Du Heng’s words were in jest, they made Liang Yichang blush with embarrassment.

It’s your right to ask for money, and by the current laws and regulations, along with previous cases to follow, the probability of getting the money is 100%.

But this is a matter where what’s logical isn’t what feels right.

If you really asked for the money, no one could blame you legally. However, how others would see it or think about it would be a matter of individual interpretation.

However, in most cases, the family asking for money and others would still greet each other when they met. But from that moment on, no one would help their family with any chores or favors.

At the same time, another phenomenon would arise: no one would lend a helping hand when they encountered others in need, especially when it came to hitching rides.

Regardless of what Liang Yichang was thinking, Du Heng continued to smile. ”Please pay for the treatment outside.” Then he prepared to get up and leave.

But Liang Yichang’s wife suddenly asked, ”How much?”

”Around 800 yuan. However, the exact amount to be reimbursed can be calculated at the front window.”

”Eight hundred?” The woman was surprised by the amount.

She thought that all Du Heng and his colleagues did was pull her mother-in-law’s arm a couple of times; how could it cost 800 yuan?

That seemed too expensive.

Is it too expensive?

It’s the regular price!

Seeing that Du Heng had no intention of explaining, Yu Haiting took the initiative to speak up. ”Actually, it’s not expensive. The splint is 80 yuan, the Dean’s treatment fee is two hundred yuan, and the other three of us didn’t charge.”

”The remaining 500 yuan is for the medicine, including the external ointment and the oral prescription.”

Considering these expenses, aside from Du Heng’s treatment fee being a bit high, everything else seemed quite reasonable, Yu Haiting thought.

However, Yu Haiting had a doubt: Why didn’t Du Heng arrange for the patient’s hospitalization? If she were hospitalized, the patient could get more reimbursement later.

However, since Du Heng didn’t feel like explaining, Yu Haiting didn’t ask either. Given the couple’s previous problematic questions, he didn’t want to stir up more trouble.

After sending the family of three away, Du Heng stopped talking to them and went upstairs to the hospital room to check on the patients.

After seeing fewer than two patients, it was already time to get off work.

When he went to look for Du Xuejing, he saw her carrying a bunch of large and small bags out of the dormitory.

Du Heng looked at his niece speechlessly. With all these things, the money I gave her this morning must be almost all spent, he estimated.

However, the girl had a conscience. In the bags she carried, there were not only things for her use but also men’s and children’s clothing.

After tossing everything into the car, Du Xuejing immediately pulled out a small bag from the pile as if presenting a treasure. ”Little Uncle, this is a gift for you.”

Whether it was good or expensive doesn’t matter, Du Heng thought. All I care about is my niece’s sentiment. This is the first time I’ve received a gift from her.

Although it was my money, just the fact that she remembered me is enough to warm my heart.

He opened the bag to find a belt, with the price tag still on it: 598 yuan.

Upon seeing the price, Du Heng shuddered. What on earth is this made of? So expensive!

”Did you spend all the money I gave you today?”

Du Xuejing immediately glared back at Du Heng with feigned indignation. ”That’s my salary, my own earned money! I can spend it however I want, and you can’t say anything.”

Du Heng smiled and put the belt back into the bag. ”I’m not scolding you; I just want to know if the money is all spent.”

Seeing that Du Heng wasn’t really blaming her, Du Xuejing immediately became hesitant and lost her confidence. ”There’s still some left.”

”How much is ’some’?”

”Ah, it’s my first time spending my own earned money, and I was too excited to control myself.”

”Just tell me how much is left.”

Du Xuejing pouted at Du Heng. After a long while, she finally deflated and said weakly, ”I still have 27 yuan left.”

”We’ll see how you explain all these things to your mother when you get home.”

Du Heng laughed out loud. Then, with a press of the gas pedal, the new car drove out of the backyard and headed home.

When they arrived home, just as Du Heng expected, Du Xuejing was lectured by her mother about things like saving money and needing a plan.

Of course, in the end, Du Heng didn’t escape blame either; he was accused of spoiling his niece too much.

But throughout the whole ordeal, as they held their gifts, the corners of their mouths couldn’t help but curve into smiles.

During dinner, Du Ping wanted to say something, but his expression showed he found it hard to broach the subject.

Du Heng felt uncomfortable watching him and directly asked, ”If you have something to say, just say it.”

”Well, it’s like this. Do you remember around this time last year when your Sister-in-law introduced you to that girl?”

”Of course, I remember.”

How could I forget that girl? Du Heng thought. She was my first blind date, and with a betrothal gift of 188,000 yuan, plus requirements for a house and a car, how could I possibly forget?

Du Ping glanced at his brother. ”Her father had someone come to propose marriage for you again today. Um... this time, they’re asking for 88,000 yuan for the betrothal gift and have no requirements for a house.”

TCH.

Du Heng snorted coldly. What a joke.

Forget 88,000 yuan; I wouldn’t agree even if it were 8.8 yuan.

I wouldn’t want her no matter what. Not for any price.

His Sister-in-law glared at Du Ping. ”I told you not to say anything, and look, you just had to bring it up.”

With that, she slammed her chopsticks on the table. ”Last year, our family gave them a chance! We went to their door with good intentions to propose marriage. But look at their attitude back then! One hundred eighty thousand yuan, requiring a house and a car, and even specifying where to buy it! They must have thought they hit the jackpot!”
