One-Eyed Monster

The joyful time is fleeting.

The bonfire of the Bonfire Festival burned throughout the night and naturally extinguished itself.

The people fell asleep in joy, and the morning sunshine couldn’t wake them.

Nakasha decided to set off early, as he received another Mail Bird from Lord Governor, implying something major seemed to have happened in Luona, and there was an urgent demand for his return.

This kind of urgent order was the first time Nakasha encountered, making him sense that something specific was happening in Luona.

As for what had happened, Nakasha dared not to speculate recklessly; all he could do was to follow the governor’s request to bring these people back as soon as possible.

Igor couldn’t even bid farewell to the enthusiastic villagers of Kanu County before embarking on his journey home.

Igor woke relatively early, his capacity for alcohol gradually increasing, he was no longer afraid of those fruit wines, while the others were not like him—they were still lost in their deep slumber, having to be carried onto the steam vehicle with great effort by him and the League Guards.

As the sunlight just touched the earth, they departed.

Igor was eternally curious, asking everything.

He was in a steam vehicle with Nakasha, who stayed with them as a precaution. At this moment, Young Master Hustace was in a drowsy sleep, while Stan Sol was silent as usual.

Only Igor remained chattering ceaselessly; no one knew where he got so many questions.

”Are we in a hurry, leaving so early? I was hoping to spend another day here,” Igor seemed a bit regretful, ”You know, the alcohol here is quite good.”

”Hmph.” Nakasha was indifferent to Igor’s notion, too occupied to deal with these people, pondering over what exactly happened in Luona.

But Igor kept insisting, the less Nakasha responded, the more questions Igor fired non-stop.

Nakasha was driving the steam vehicle, bothered by the relentless chatter of the young man beside him, momentarily distracted, a scraping sound followed as his steam vehicle bumped into a carriage’s tail.

The owner of the carriage got off, rubbing his head, angrily pointing at the steam vehicle and began to curse: ”Blind? You could even bump into this.”

Nakasha was already annoyed and now faced another arrogant fellow, just at the right moment.

”What’s the big deal with bumping into each other?” Nakasha purposely revealed his emblem, within Luona’s jurisdiction, no one should fail to recognize this emblem.

However, the carriage driver didn’t notice anything unusual, he seemed completely unaware of this emblem, dismissing Nakasha’s gesture, continuing with arrogance: ”You crashed into someone and still so smug. What, driving this iron lump makes you special?”

Nakasha was taken aback by this reaction; someone actually able to disregard the Luona Capital’s Emblem, especially within Luona’s jurisdiction.

Usually, people stay far from steam vehicles; only those from the Administrative Office could afford them, while most others still travel by carriage. Yet, the carriage owner seemed to ignore all this, maintaining his arrogance.

”Do you even know what this iron lump in your mouth is?”

”I don’t care what it is, you hit me today, don’t think you can get away without saying something. No explanation, don’t even think about passing.”

”Heh, as if you could stop me.” Nakasha showed no fear for the carriage owner.

”Hey, Wizard, you speak boldly, don’t think just because you’re with the Government Administrative Office I’m scared. You’re the one at fault, and now you act tough.” The carriage owner relentlessly continued, oblivious to Nakasha’s warning.

Nakasha realized this guy indeed recognized him but didn’t care, instead growing more provocative with each word.

Nakasha wasn’t a reckless type, after exchanging a few angry words, he calmed down. Not many can ignore the Luona Emblem; either a fool or some noble kid.

Judging by his demeanor, the carriage owner didn’t seem like a fool, as his behavior was quite appropriate, even maintaining composure when angry.

However, calling him a noble seemed a stretch given the shabby state of his carriage…

Thus, the carriage owner’s identity became a puzzling question for Nakasha.

At this moment, Igor stepped forward seeing neither party backing down, trying to play mediator. He glanced at the carriage owner, then at Nakasha, grinned, and calmly said, ”Let’s talk it over, everyone’s on the road, everyone’s on the road.”

”On the road is fine, but what about this bump on my head? There’s got to be an explanation.” The carriage owner was relentless.

”Uh…” Igor truly wasn’t skilled in mediation, barely muttered a couple of sentences and got tongue-tied, resembling a clumsy novice.

The carriage owner didn’t dilly-dally: ”Actually, I didn’t intend much; since you hit us, at least an apology is in order, but your attitude is simply infuriating.”

”So, what do you suggest we do?” Nakasha was becoming anxious, not expecting such a stubborn encounter.

”What to do? Let’s bring over the local Administrative Office personnel and see how to resolve this.”

”You’re wasting time... forget it, do you want money or what? Just say it.” Nakasha, who had calmed down a bit, was now agitated again. How long would it take for someone from the Government Administrative Office to arrive?

”What do you mean, are you saying I’m extorting money? It’s necessary for someone from the office to come.” The carriage owner was getting angrier.

The situation was getting worse, and time was just being consumed without progress.

Nakasha’s subordinates also gathered around, seemingly to intimidate the carriage owner.

However, the carriage owner showed no sign of fear at all...

Nakasha didn’t want to think too much about it either. Delaying the journey was never good, and if push came to shove, he intended to take a hard line. After all, it had come to this.

”Don’t think I’ll be scared just because you have more people. This won’t end today.” The carriage owner was devoid of fear, where did he get such courage?

Nakasha thought that the carriage owner might have some extraordinary subordinates, but when he looked forward, he noticed the coachman nervously tiptoeing away as if to open a path...

This made Nakasha even more perplexed. What was the carriage owner’s confidence, daring to confront him head-on?

Was the guy an Adventurer with Class, possessing power beyond ordinary people, hence unafraid of their League Guards?

He tried to sense with Spirit Power but ultimately found nothing.

This made him even more puzzled. Usually, people would be intimidated in this situation, but the carriage owner showed not a hint of fear, which was simply unbelievable!

What was the background of this carriage owner to have such confidence?

The League Guards had never encountered someone with such backbone, and for a moment didn’t know what to do.

This was truly an awkward moment.

Igor saw that things were off, that the carriage coachman seemed at risk of being beaten.

So Igor quickly stood in the middle: ”Let’s talk it out, don’t do this.”

”You tell me how to talk it out, with your attitude so bad. You tell me how to talk it out.”

”Step aside, it’s not your place to speak here.”

Both sides still refused to budge, making Igor feel like he was meddling.

How could this be resolved?

This was initially their car bumping into the carriage, logically they should apologize, but Nakasha’s bad attitude led the carriage owner to be angry and refuse to back down now.

Igor felt he couldn’t prevent the carriage owner from being beaten.

To be honest, Igor was quite sympathetic to the carriage owner.

The carriage owner wasn’t at fault; he was just treated unfairly by a bunch of unreasonable people.

There was no reasoning in this situation, Igor sympathized, and he even decided to intervene if they started beating the carriage owner... After all, he couldn’t change Nakasha’s decision, but he could at least help the poor carriage owner take a few blows.

Nakasha had a grim look; wasting so much time over an accident was unacceptable. He didn’t want to entangle further, whether the guy was reckless or not, he was ready to get tough.

Nakasha gave a signal to the left and right, and they slowly moved forward — it was clear they were about to launch a surprise attack on the carriage owner.

They aimed to beat the carriage owner without him being able to resist. As Adventurers with Class, dealing with someone without any Spirit Power shouldn’t be difficult.

As soon as Nakasha gave the order, the two would rush in: one holding the carriage owner’s legs, the other grabbing his arms from behind, immobilizing him.

”Do it!” Nakasha didn’t want to delay any longer and gave the command. The two rushed forward without hesitation according to the plan...

But something strange happened.

The two found themselves unable to move, unable to get close to the guy...

”Do it!” Nakasha was confused, what were his two subordinates doing standing there?

”Don’t mess with me, I’m telling you, I’m not afraid of you.” The carriage owner seemed to anticipate this scene and involuntarily took a step back.

As the carriage owner stepped back, Nakasha’s subordinates took a step forward. It looked as if there was an invisible wall preventing them from advancing, and they bore contorted expressions, seemingly speechless...

”What the hell is going on?” Nakasha couldn’t believe it, rolling up his sleeves to personally beat the carriage owner.
