One-Eyed Monster

The Great Witch felt that relying on an unreliable Spirit Book to solve the anomalies in her wizard robe was entirely her own mistake.

Although she initially didn’t know how unreliable the Spirit Book was, she had once owned it, and should have been aware of its notorious reputation.

Now, the extent of the Spirit Book’s unreliability was far beyond her imagination.

But what could she do? She needed to continue searching for her answers, as this unresolved issue would trouble her for ages. This kind of distress might even force her back in time, back to that old, frail state...

If that were the case, she could grudgingly accept it. Over the years, she’s already been worn down, and merely being a divining wizard seems like a good place to settle. Moreover, nothing tumultuous ever happens in Gaga County; the recent events could already be considered the greatest in the history of this place...

The Great Witch worried that she might end up as a Dark Wizard. After all, she hailed from the Imperial Wizards Alliance and donned the black robe. She couldn’t bring disgrace to the Wizard Alliance.

But if such a thing were to happen, what would she do?

The Great Witch fell deep into her thoughts, pushing aside the matter of the Spirit Book’s unreliability...

Meanwhile, Igor was pinching his forehead, utterly speechless at the Spirit Book. He couldn’t believe anyone would shamelessly claim it’s a golden finger.

In this situation, the Spirit Book could only ramble on, chattering incessantly about its golden finger status, but all its words were tedious and weak, beginning with ”if” and ”suppose.”

These ”ifs” and ”supposes” have not actually happened, so they carry no persuasive power. Yet, the Spirit Book doesn’t understand this simple principle—it has lived for so long in vain without grasping such a straightforward truth.

The future holds great uncertainty, giving rise to many imaginations. Those who use potential future events to persuade others mostly exploit these imaginations, believing that portraying these possibilities vividly can awaken people’s desires, inducing a kind of psychological numbness that creates trust and reliance. The Spirit Book employed this method, but unfortunately encountered Igor, who harbors little expectation for the future. Igor values reality more than the future, as in his mind, the future is always predictable... a perspective shaped by his experiences.

Hence, the Spirit Book’s sentiments and explanations were to no avail, as they seemed like a bunch of nonsense in Igor’s view.

However, the Spirit Book kept speaking tirelessly, hoping it could eventually persuade Igor, for it truly believed it was a golden finger!

The Great Witch, gripped by fear of the future, gazed blankly as if her future had already plunged into darkness with no hope. The flickering wizard robe alarmed her; she desperately wished to remove it, but once a wizard chooses their robe before becoming a black one, it stays with them, merging completely into them—even if they toss it aside, it remains their robe until they pass their skills onto someone else or head to the Eternal Tranquility Realm, at which point the robe turns back into a regular garment.

This is why the wizard robe is the most apparent symbol of a wizard, whereas the Wizard Wand seems less significant—some wizards, like Bigas, don’t even possess a Wizard Wand.

Biggs felt anxious over the transformation of her wizard robe, unable to pinpoint the cause, which was the root of her panic. She wished to seek help but didn’t know how to begin...

Originally, she intended to rely on her own strength to find answers, but even after rummaging through her mind, she found nothing of use. She reviewed all the books she had ever read, but couldn’t find a similar answer. It seemed that the problem she faced had never been encountered by her wizard predecessors.

Now, nothing she said mattered. She was anxious and clueless about what to do.

The Spirit Book had been talking for quite a while. It noticed that its master was ignoring it, feeling a bit uneasy, since the impression Igor previously left was ingrained in its bones. Now, whatever it did, it had to consider Igor’s reaction.

Realizing its explanations were fruitless, the Spirit Book decided to change its approach. It recalled that Igor wanted it to help the wizard alleviate her troubles, but it had been babbling on about unrelated topics, completely forgetting the original matter, which was unforgivable!

So the Spirit Book promptly straightened up, ready to play its main role as a Spirit Book. With a cough, it began again in its arrogant tone: ”Well, what’s going on here? Wasn’t there something to consult me about?”

The tone was arrogantly haughty, like that of an egotistical person with no trace of humility.

Igor sighed in relief upon hearing this stiff remark; this arrogant tone indicated that the Spirit Book hadn’t gone mad—it was still in its normal state. As long as it remained in its normal state, the fellow still had some use; at least, it had some substance, not just an empty sheet of paper.

Yet, the Great Witch Biggs had mostly lost faith in the Spirit Book. Firstly, its unreliability hurt her, and secondly, she had previously browsed through the book and retained some memory of its content. In her memory, the Spirit Book was incapable of knowing anything beyond ordinary conventions.

So the Great Witch now saw no need to respond to the Spirit Book’s arrogant words.

Let the Spirit Book immerse itself in its golden finger world; she will continue maintaining her cautious approach towards the future...

The Spirit Book noticed no one was paying attention to it, and resumed observing on its own. It didn’t care how others viewed it, but was still concerned about Igor’s reaction—in case it was directly blamed for failing to clarify things, it would be a real loss.

The Spirit Book’s spirit sensing remained quite good, since it was Lord Soron’s masterpiece. Pure spirit sensing was relatively reliable.

”I sense someone’s fear of the dark!” the Spirit Book said leisurely, as if narrating the beginning of a beautiful story.

But this sentence shocked the Great Witch Biggs because at that very moment, she was deeply worried, and the fear she had was indeed of the Dark Force.
