One-Eyed Monster

”Well, Master, do you see her sitting there calmly now? Being so calm must be a sign of composure!” the Spirit Book responded steadily. This moment was crucial, and its tone and manner of speaking needed to be cautious, as Igor was currently in shock and emotionally unstable.

”I...” Igor didn’t even know how to speak anymore, completely thrown off by the Spirit Book’s response. In fact, he knew that the Great Witch was indeed very calm now, but he couldn’t understand why she was so calm. However, he couldn’t ask the Spirit Book directly either, so he could only provoke it in this manner.

The effect wasn’t good at all. In the end, the Spirit Book wasn’t provoked, while Igor himself ended up frustrated, a classic case of backfire.

Inside, the Spirit Book was quite delighted, but it had to maintain composure. The revenge plan was only just beginning, and things were going well, quite smoothly indeed. It couldn’t afford to be arrogant yet; it would wait until its power was sufficient to crush this young man...

The excitement inside was overwhelming, but it had to restrain itself.

”Can you prove to me that she is calm?” Igor finally managed to say this after holding it in for a long time. He had really tried his best.

The Spirit Book almost burst out laughing at this moment; it was a true sign of desperation.

But for the sake of its revenge plan, it had to endure, even though Igor’s reaction was both boring and simplistic.

”Alright, I will prove it, Master, rest assured!” the Spirit Book continued to act subserviently; this approach was quite effective.

Because this way, it could lull Igor into thinking it was utterly obedient to him, while in fact, it was secretly plotting a grand revenge plan.

Igor’s mind was in turmoil at this moment; he didn’t understand why the Spirit Book had become so confident, a feeling he had never experienced before.

Logically, he should feel happy; the Spirit Book, as a companion, was finally showing some reliability, which would greatly help him on his future path. However, he just couldn’t feel happy and instead felt a sense of anger.

Where did this anger come from? Igor couldn’t make sense of it. He only knew he was very confused now.

In fact, this anger was self-directed, stemming from deep dissatisfaction with himself. He felt he had misunderstood the Spirit Book and had said many harsh words to mock it, showing it complete disrespect. However, he couldn’t honestly apologize because he still had a bit of pride, which prevented him from lowering himself... This was the real reason for his anger, a sense of discontent with himself.

The Spirit Book wasn’t aware of this. In its perspective, Igor was just agitated and upset, exactly the outcome it desired.

However, the revenge plan was long; it couldn’t let itself lose control over short-term gains and losses. It couldn’t let itself become arrogant just because Igor was upset now. It understood the importance of restraint; after all, it and Igor didn’t have any profound enmity, just a bit of dissatisfaction to resolve. Once this dissatisfaction was addressed, everything would return to normal. Certainly, it still had a long way to go in addressing this issue.

For now, it just needed to continue exuding an air of humility, appearing like a servant, which it excelled at.

Since Igor asked it to prove the point, it would prove it then.

In an instant, the Spirit Book transformed into a small human figure, with short legs and tiny arms, running toward the Great Witch...

The calm Witch Biggs sat there, but inside, she too was in turmoil. However, after much tumult, the intense emotions slowly subsided, like the surface of a once-rippled water returning to its original calm.

The Spirit Book, now running, quickly reached her. The Great Witch didn’t react much because, at this moment, she was entirely at peace.

Peaceful, though it wasn’t much different from being on the verge of death.

Igor was angry at himself, whereas the Great Witch was filled with disappointment, to the core. She didn’t know why she had become like this, why she couldn’t be like everyone else.

Unfortunately, some things are just like that, with no fairness or justice, like rain from the sky that never covers an entire ground, leaving some places wet and others dry.

”The standard of the wizard robe is unlocked!” the Spirit Book said to the Great Witch deliberately because it knew the wizard robe had triggered various emotions in her. Mentioning it again could surely test the Great Witch’s current emotional state. Of course, through the Spirit Sensing, it already knew what the Great Witch was feeling, but it needed to prove it to Igor, which required concrete actions instead of mere verbal claims. The Great Witch’s reaction would be the best evidence.

The Great Witch wasn’t moved. Now, nothing said to her could save her dying heart.

Remaining calm until reaching a certain point of despair, at which she stopped caring altogether.

Previously, she cared about whether she was a Wizard, but now, really, what’s the difference? Even if she were, as a Wizard different from others, she’d still be ostracized. How is that different from not being a Wizard? If anything, not being a Wizard might save her from the mockery of other Wizards...

So what’s the point of unlocking the standard of the wizard robe? In fact, it was a secret, but what’s the difference in unlocking it?

The Great Witch’s lack of reaction suited the Spirit Book perfectly; it was exactly the outcome it was hoping for.

”Look, Master, she’s calm, isn’t she?”

”Respected Wizard, don’t do this; you still have the opportunity to become a Wizard of another attribute. There’s no need to be so self-destructive!” Igor’s first response was to comfort the Great Witch. He wasn’t as concerned about the Spirit Book anymore, and he felt a bit less anger toward himself.

”Self-destructive?” Witch Biggs looked calmly at Igor. This young man kept calling her ’Your Excellency,’ leaving her a bit at a loss, but the words ’self-destructive’ puzzled her more. ”How am I self-destructive?”

Many people hide their true feelings, claiming to be fine while actually feeling terrible, and the Great Witch was no exception.

”Uh... you showed no reaction at all, it seemed a bit...”

”I think it’s alright this way, nothing to worry about,” the Great Witch said. Her words reflected the disconnect between what she felt and what she expressed.
