One-Eyed Monster

”What’s wrong?” Igor sensed something unusual with the Spirit Book. ”Is there a difficult part?”

”I wouldn’t call it unusual. These things are pretty normal.”

”Then why are you so astonished?” Igor wanted to know the reason. After all, these things were important to him, and he had to understand their mysteries no matter what.

These things were important because Igor had an innate curiosity for every peculiar story. It was in his nature, unchangeable, and he was born to like these strange things. He would never be content without figuring them out.

However, the Spirit Book hadn’t been with Igor for long, and it didn’t understand this trait of his. It was astonished at why Igor was suddenly eager to know all this. It couldn’t figure it out.

But there are many things in the world that are puzzling. Just because you can’t figure them out doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. You have to feel them thoroughly to understand their true essence. The Spirit Book just hadn’t grasped Igor’s real nature yet, so it couldn’t keep up with Igor’s pace.

What could have been solved quickly turned into a grand story by the Spirit Book, which caused everyone to ponder for a long time. Ultimately, everything had to go back to the beginning and research Great Witch’s wizard robe once again.

Yet, once back at the starting point, the Spirit Book was again shocked by Igor’s attitude, and this caused the entire matter to halt once more.

Thankfully, this time the Spirit Book didn’t misunderstand. It lamented to itself about Igor’s quirks and continued with its search.

The wizard robe indeed was a bit different, but it didn’t understand why Igor and others cared so much about this particular wizard robe. What puzzled it even more was the owner of this robe seemed somewhat anxious. What did this anxiety mean? This thing couldn’t pose a threat or create one; it was merely a tool or a symbol. What was there to worry about…

”Have you found anything yet?” Igor’s impatience made the Spirit Book a bit uncomfortable. Even though it had found some things, it couldn’t summarize them so quickly. This needed a process, which might not take long but couldn’t be interrupted like this. Any disruption would break the process and affect the entire situation.

But Igor wasn’t aware of this detail and kept urging, thinking the Spirit Book should immediately provide an answer.

And it’s understandable why Igor felt this way. This was his first time with a Spirit Book. Previously, he had only dealt with traditional books, where the content was fixed and limited. Anything he wanted to find was just a page turn away, and the content was right there. As long as you searched accurately, you could instantly get what you wanted.

But the Spirit Book was different. To a certain extent, it was a memory of its author. It not only contained the fixed content recorded in the book (the part created by the author) but also extended content. This extension was the Spirit Book’s spiritual skill (a skill that allowed the Spirit Book to recall some of the author’s memories). So, a Spirit Book was entirely a mixture of memories.

Therefore, it couldn’t provide answers as swiftly as Igor hoped.

The brief silence of the Spirit Book made Igor anxious. He felt that the mystery was near to being solved, but the veil over the answer just couldn’t be lifted.

He had urged several times, not wanting to push again, but silently waiting was also unsatisfying…

”Master, this wizard robe isn’t that complicated,” the Spirit Book had to share the memories it found due to Igor’s urgings. No time for piecing it together, that was all it could do.

”What do you mean?” Igor wasn’t satisfied with the Spirit Book’s response. He didn’t understand it at all. What they wanted to know was why the wizard robe was in this state, not what the wizard robe was.

They wanted to know the formation process of the wizard robe, but the Spirit Book was now telling them about its specific form.

But what did ’not complicated’ mean?

What does ’not complicated’ mean? Could there be a more complex form than this wizard robe?

The flickering color on this wizard robe has confused so many people, yet it’s called ’not complicated’?

Is the Spirit Book deliberately messing with them?

Igor scratched his head, clearly puzzled by this statement, and waited for further explanation from the Spirit Book.

”I’ve already detailed the Wizard Robe System earlier, the robe doesn’t have any magic or spiritual power reserves. It’s merely a symbol, a standard for assessing combat attributes.”

”What does that have to do with it not being complicated?” Igor interrupted the Spirit Book.

”It has a lot to do with it. The Wizard Robe System is just a display standard and can’t affect anyone. It’s like a leaf or a stone, very ordinary, very simple.”

For the first time, the wizard robe and its system were described as very ordinary and simple.

This was hard to accept, especially after being steeped in this system for so many years. Now, being told it was just a marker with no function except for recognition was shocking.

”That’s not the point,” Igor rudely interrupted the Spirit Book’s thoughts.

”I’m still searching, Master, rest assured…” The Spirit Book knew its answer wasn’t satisfactory to Igor.

”You might have a point, but this isn’t what the predecessors wanted to discuss. Didn’t you notice? They wanted to know the standard set by this robe that emits a flickering color...”

Igor’s analysis was spot on. Since the Spirit Book was willing to show everyone the form of the wizard robe, it should be more comprehensive, not dismiss people with ’not complicated’...

The Spirit Book drew a sharp breath when it heard Igor’s words. This just got complicated.

Originally, the form wasn’t too complex, but to suddenly detail the vague simplicity and state definitive standards was challenging.

”This, this needs time!” The Spirit Book reluctantly admitted.

”Didn’t you say it wasn’t complicated?”

”Yes, it’s indeed not complicated, but it’s very tedious,” the Spirit Book replied truthfully. It never hid anything in front of Igor.

”Why?” Igor was confused.

”Because it’s rare.”
