One-Eyed Monster

Igor was stunned; he didn’t quite understand why the Spirit Book said this.

Exactly what the wizard robe system concealed, Igor could no longer distinguish.

Who is right and who is wrong, this crucial issue began to surface.

Igor stared at the Spirit Book blankly; he wanted to know what the Spirit Book had to say, as it was very important to him.

Actually, not just Igor, others also began to take interest in this matter because during this period of discussion, they found more and more things weren’t as simple as they imagined.

In this world, many times things get overlooked; no one will back down because of your stagnation; everyone keeps moving forward towards some goal. And in order to progress, sometimes they will use every means possible.

The Spirit Book gradually digested those assembled images, although a bit blurry, overall it was able to connect them. This was an important reason why Lord Soron opposed the wizard robe system, but also an important reason why Lord Soron concealed this fact.

Most of the time, as long as people know the outcome, that’s enough. The broken process, ignore it if you can.

In Soron’s era, although Adventurers with Class were already popular on this continent, there still wasn’t enough of a system; for ten people, having one Adventurer with Class was already considered a significant ratio.

In the Kayne Empire, the entire transition had too great a dependency on Adventurers with Class; without them, their territory would be at risk, and because of this reliance, the Kayne Empire’s territory continuously shrank.

This is an invisible threat, as Wensi and the Mantai Empire have inherent strengths, and the infiltration of Adventurers with Class in these two empires gradually reduced the advantage of the Kayne Empire.

If this trend continues, soon enough, the phenomenon of this tripartite balance will become a thing of the past...

How Adventurers with Class would develop and grow became a problem Kayne Empire urgently needed to solve at that time.

At that time, Soron and Ennis were considered the most accomplished in the entire wizard domain, and the development of Adventurers with Class naturally couldn’t proceed without their advice.

The divergence lay in the personalities of both individuals.

From King Kayne’s perspective, it was obvious that Ennis had a greater sense of responsibility because Ennis’ appearances before the king were significantly more frequent than Soron’s. Moreover, Ennis’ performance in the National Defense War was stronger than Soron’s. Ennis emphasized discipline and was diligent towards the country.

In comparison, Soron appeared more free-spirited and individualistic. More crucially, he often turned a blind eye to King Kayne, which displeased the king greatly, resulting in resources being directed towards Ennis...

Soron might not care about this because he always acted independently; these things held little attraction for him.

Though free will is immensely charming, at key moments it reveals shortcomings. In front of the Empire’s war machine, they are always scattered guerrillas. To put it bluntly, if slightly tightened, that free will becomes a loose gathering that goes in different directions. No matter what, they cannot become saviors...

Though unpleasant to hear, this is the truth.

Ennis’ wizard robe system has many flaws; in Soron’s eyes, this thing had no utility, it was a burden, a manifestation of vanity.

In a way, Lord Ennis enjoyed being under the spotlight, he liked the feeling of being surrounded by people, so he always acted according to the king’s wishes. He knew that partial power was more important than free will, and binding most people was more important than letting them roam free.

One reason for the wizard robe system is Ennis displaying his power; vibrant colors can stimulate eyes accustomed to the ordinary. The function of the robe was not just to verify rank but also to allow masters to exhibit their threat. It was a symbol of power.

This symbol was obvious and didn’t require probing, it was an outright threat.

This was a veiled show of prowess; in Soron’s view, it was vanity at play.

Yet this method worked; wizards quickly established a hierarchy, and suddenly the Wizard Alliance became a disciplined and powerful entity.

Lord Soron gradually lost his status in the alliance, though he never cared about this aspect; he still acted freely, still considered the wizard robe system an ineffective thing designed to wow the crowd.

However, if it was just to dazzle the crowd, Lord Soron wouldn’t have opposed so strongly; what made him most upset about the robe system was its stifling of wizards’ freedom to advance.

Many gifted wizards were eliminated by this wizard robe system because they couldn’t change the robe’s color, preventing them from entering the wizard circle, forcing them to turn to roles like Scholar or Alchemist.

This was unfair because originally, these people were equal; the influence on the robe’s color was merely a slight advantage in a certain attribute.

To be exact, the wizard robe system’s selection was conditional, it only picked those it wanted.

This perplexed Lord Soron greatly; why only select individuals with a standout attribute? Wizards should flourish like Scholars to grow strong. Ennis gave a very simple answer because the selected individuals served the king. At that time, the king needed types who could fight and win battles, so without exception, the wizard robe system served the ruling class.

The wizard robe system was just a tool for the ruling class; its creation was entirely for consolidating their rule...

Igor quietly listened; he hadn’t thought the widely prevalent wizard robe system was also just a tool serving the king...

This fact made him somewhat confused and made him see Lord Soron in a new light.

”But why did Lord Soron hide all of this?” Igor asked, confused about many aspects of this fact.

”Because everything is for the outcome. Without King Kayne’s army, no matter how strong we become, we cannot defend our lands.”

”Everything is for the outcome...” Igor slowly pondered this sentence. He seemed to feel the sacrifices made by the predecessors to guard their homeland, pondering why there was conflict on this continent? Why did Adventurers with Class have to realize their value on the battlefield?

These questions gradually flooded Igor’s mind, making him feel dizzy.

”Lord Soron opposed the wizard robe system because he believed it stifled people’s freedom to develop; he thought wizards shouldn’t focus solely on one attribute.”

After detailing this lengthy fact, the Spirit Book offered its viewpoint, aiming to clear Lord Soron’s name.
