Chapter 226: Chapter 225: Ancient Heretics

Everything happened too fast, as if moments ago it was all calm.

The phone started vibrating frantically at the same time.

Su Changxing didn’t have time to check the phone and decisively sprinted outside.

The distance was very short and could be covered in an instant.

But after running a certain distance, Su Changxing found that the distance between him and the door hadn’t changed; he was still in the same spot.

The rules of space seemed somewhat different now.

Su Changxing stopped in his tracks. The shadows gradually became clearer, and he noticed the original environment starting to blur.

The firelight fragmented into particles of light, and white smoke appeared in the space. It must be the scent of incense. The people sleeping on the floor became eerie blue phantoms.

The world turned into a twisted form that Su Changxing couldn’t understand.

The shadows were figures wearing gray hoods and trench coats, varying in height.

Yes, they could only be referred to as things; he was sure they were something other than human.

Ongoing sharp pain pierced Su Changxing’s mind like steel needles.

This was indicative of experiencing a Spiritual Attack.

Dreamers can largely be immune to Spiritual Attacks, which is what makes them so peculiar; seemingly not formidable, but actually very unscientific.

To humans, especially Low Tier Extraordinary beings, the Spirit is the most vulnerable area.

When Dreamers are immune to Spiritual Attacks, it manifests as pain. The frequency and severity of the pain indicate the intensity of the Spiritual Attack.

Nothing seemed to happen immediately.

A weak voice spoke rapidly:

”I can’t hold on any longer; I must seal my consciousness... they are some kind of heretic existence, very ominous. Kid, remember not to agree to any of their demands, nor accept any of their benefits. In theory, they have no means to harm you; you are protected by your world...”

After speaking, the voice fell silent completely.

Su Changxing’s lips twitched, finding this fellow unreliable. Instinctively checking his phone, he discovered that all other pages had gone black, as if the signal had cut off, while only the discount store remained, even with reminders on the path log.

[You have inadvertently initiated a certain ritual, Mysteriousness +10]

[A certain presence has arrived at your location]

[They are very wicked]

”Wicked? That word really isn’t wicked at all.”

Su Changxing drew the revolver and the handgun from his waist, watching the dark shadows.

He didn’t know if these Firearms would work against them, but they were his strongest means of attack.

”Sssss.”

”Hahaha.”

······

The sound grew clearer; it was these shadows laughing eerily, the sound extremely unsettling.

Su Changxing remained unfazed, saying loudly, ”Is it really that funny? Your sense of humor seems quite low.”

The space suddenly fell silent, as if the laughter moments ago was an illusion.

Su Changxing paused in surprise, not expecting these things to respond, indicating that they possessed some form of intelligence and were capable of communication?

”Sssss.”

”Hahaha.”

······

Suddenly, the laughter grew louder and more intense.

Su Changxing took a deep breath, wondering if it was a coincidence, perhaps these were projections, akin to some phenomena, like the sun rising in the east and setting in the west.

Su Changxing simply observed them without taking any action, nor firing his gun, appearing very cautious.

If they truly couldn’t harm him as the voice suggested, then doing nothing was the safest approach, responding to change with stability.

Soon, the shadows solidified, revealing faces like dried corpses beneath the hoods; lacking moisture, the deep muscular textures turned gray-brown, exuding a heavy sense of antiquity.

Su Changxing could believe these were things excavated from thousand-year-old coffins.

Suddenly.

One of the dark shadows looked around exaggeratedly, saying, ”Sssss, is this guy an idiot? Just standing there motionless.”

Another taller shadow echoed:

”Hahaha, he must be. Didn’t expect him to be an idiot; might as well have some fun since he’s useless.”

”I think that’s fine, haven’t eaten in ages; this is intriguing.”

”If you’re going to eat, do it, but don’t make it too bloody.”

······

Dense chatter echoed in Su Changxing’s ears, as if from ten people, possibly a hundred, or even more.

Yet, he carefully listened to each sentence, analyzing and deducing.

Seventy-three different tones······

Soon, a shorter shadow slowly approached Su Changxing.

Su Changxing’s heart leaped to his throat, instinctively aiming the revolver at the target and saying in a stern voice, ”You’d better not come near me.”

The short shadow was smaller than expected, only reaching Su Changxing’s waist, like a small child.

Looking up, it had a furry and incomplete head; it was definitely not human.

”Human, you seem very weak. Hmm, let me think, you must come from somewhere emerging and vibrant.”

The small figure halted, its voice magnetic, apparently full of wisdom.

Su Changxing felt the other was probing him, and the more that happened, the less he could reveal, asking in return, ”What’s your purpose?”

The short figure waved a hand, instantly silencing the space, saying:

”Purpose, hmm? Wasn’t it you who summoned us?”

Su Changxing still didn’t respond, repeating, ”What’s your purpose?”

These things were strange; he couldn’t sense their strength or even their existence.

The small figure spread a hand, saying, ”We all ultimately share the same fate. You’ve embarked on a path of no return. Though weak, we’re on the same path.”

Su Changxing frowned, feeling the answer was evasive, and asked again, ”What are you?”

The small figure clasped its hands behind its back and took two steps sideways, saying:

”Heretics, some ancient heretics, abandoned people with no path home... that’s why we meet.”

Su Changxing thought for a moment and asked, ”Heretics? As in extreme presences unaccepted by religions?”

The small figure paused and said, ”Religion? What’s that?”

Su Changxing’s pinky twitched, realizing he might have revealed something; his common knowledge might not be common to others.

”True Knowledge” information flickered wildly, but it was all incomprehensible things. [┟┠┡┣┤┥┦┧┨┩┪┫┬┭┮┯┰┱]
