Chapter 223: Chapter 222: The Ever-Growing Shadow

Su Changxing pushed open the door and walked out, seeing four or five bodies lying on the floor of the hall, both men and women. In the dim candlelight, it seemed they all died in the same way.

There was a penetrating wound at the front of their chest, with the area around the wound turning black. This was just like the injuries of the victim during the day. Now there were four or five more victims.

A young man, full of terror, said:

”Did any of you see who did it? I saw him just fine earlier, and in just the blink of an eye, he died.”

Huang Biao looked at the bodies on the ground, frowned, and said, ”How long ago was this?”

The young man thought for a moment and said:

”Just before you came back, it was just a moment ago. He seemed to go to the exit to replace the defenses early, because there were quite a few zombies attacking the exit.”

Death isn’t scary; the scary part is unknown death, death without a known cause.

Huang Biao also realized the seriousness of the matter. If more people die in this way, there could be major problems within the gathering place.

But the problem was, no one saw how they died. At night, visibility is limited, and even a bit of distance makes it unclear.

Huang Biao’s face turned grim as he noticed Su Changxing coming out from inside. He whispered:

”What should we do now? There’s someone hiding in the gathering place, killing our people, and we don’t know his purpose.”

Before, when only one person died, one could barely explain it as a vendetta, but now six people have died. It’s clearly not a simple vendetta.

Su Changxing didn’t have many ideas either, so he said, ”Where did they all die?”

Huang Tao chimed in from the side, saying, ”They all died in the corridors. At the time of death, no one was around, and there was no disturbance.”

Huang Tao didn’t participate in the operations; he presided over order in the gathering place and was the first to learn about this incident.

In the corridors?

The corridors are relatively enclosed spaces, not easily observed, but many people pass through them, making it easy to be witnessed despite not being a good place for the crime.

Yet the killer could perfectly seize the time without being discovered and should possess some ability to perceive the surroundings,

as for the killer’s purpose...

That wasn’t Su Changxing’s first concern; in such a world, any purpose was possible.

Observing the wounds on these bodies, the information from ”True Knowledge” kept flashing.

[The area of the wounds is getting smaller, the killer’s strength is continuously enhancing, it seems with each kill he grows stronger.]

Soon after, he felt his phone vibrating.

Task?

Su Changxing picked up the phone to check and indeed, a relevant task popped up.

[Side task (The Ever-expanding Shadow): Unexplained death continues to occur in the gathering place, the killer’s power seems to keep growing. It’s best to find him before he’s strong enough, or disband the gathering place and escape?

1. Disband the gathering place before the death toll reaches a hundred. (100 Points)

2. Find him and take him out before the death toll reaches a hundred. (10,000 Points and unknown rewards)]

Su Changxing looked at the task, his eyes narrowing slightly, revealing quite a bit of critical information.

For example, this unknown presence will destroy the gathering place, and if the gathering place is not disbanded in advance, it seems to cause more serious consequences.

Now, this is a danger that can’t be ignored, more severe than he previously expected.

Su Changxing took a deep breath and said, ”This situation is very serious, have everyone move together, at least in groups of three.”

The words ”serious” bit hard.

Huang Biao was startled for a moment, then nodded and said:

”That’s one way. If there are several people together, at least they won’t die silently.”

He immediately sent messages to inform everyone about the situation, though it would tighten the nerves of those in the gathering place, it was currently the best way.

Su Changxing asked the skull, ”Did you notice anything unusual?”

Generally, there’s no need, he wouldn’t question the skull.

The skull arrogantly said, ”Hey, kid, the great True Knower tells you... I don’t know either.”

”...”

Su Changxing paused for a moment, then lightly said, ”You True Knower really lack face.”

The skull lowered its voice, sounding unconvinced, ”I’m just a skull, but I can tell you, there indeed was an energy change just now, very subtle, I can’t judge the specific location... That feeling is somewhat like that Blood Moon World, full of mist and despair.”

Blood Moon World?

Su Changxing’s eyes brightened, guessing that this must be caused by the Blood Moon, which can transform people into the Extraordinary, perhaps into other things too.

The skull changed its tone and said, ”Kid, the safest way is to leave here. Don’t play the gathering place games like children.”

Su Changxing lightly said, ”I said, I don’t need you to give me direction.”

The skull chuckled, ”How heartless you are.”

The people in the gathering place, upon receiving the message, fell into a tense state, moving more cautiously.

In the dim and not-so-spacious room, more than ten people formed a circle.

A middle-aged man in a cotton coat said, ”Professor Geng, we need to be more careful, five or six people have already died, and they’ve all died inexplicable deaths.”

Geng Wanchun nodded and said:

”Really, we need to be more cautious. Any of us could become the target of the killer, but as long as we don’t get isolated, there shouldn’t be a big problem. Boss Huang said, if there’s anything abnormal, yell out, someone will come right away.”

Standing in the middle, a woman with a scarf suspiciously said, ”Who do you think the killer could be? It shouldn’t be someone in our team, right.”

Another man with an older appearance assuredly said, ”No, we haven’t left just now, it definitely won’t be us, so there’s no need to worry too much. Too much tension could lead to issues.”

Geng Wanchun nodded in agreement and said, ”Old Bai is right, keep a calm mindset, as long as we’re careful, it won’t be a big problem.”

Though Geng Wanchun isn’t very good-tempered, he acts with considerable strategy, at least ensuring fairness, and thus earns some respect.

While speaking, Geng Wanchun’s hands tucked in his sleeves trembled slightly.

The person named Old Bai patted Geng Wanchun’s shoulder and said:

”Professor Geng, the cold at night is heavy, wear more clothes. Falling ill would make matters even worse.”

Geng Wanchun exhaled and said with a smile, ”It’s fine, being a bit cold keeps the mind clearer.”

The young man across showed admiration, saying, ”Professor Geng is truly dedicated and responsible.”

Geng Wanchun modestly waved his hand and said, ”Not at all, I’m just looking out for everyone’s safety.”
