Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

The forest was dappled with light and shadow, and the strength of the Demigod and Qin Tian naturally needed no further mention. The two were like sharp knives, thrusting straight into the core of the enemy. Only when they penetrated halfway into the forest did the sounds of battle cries erupt from outside.

The Demigod and Qin Tian paid no heed to this—once Yanjing’s Protector God personally arrived, the outcome was already determined.

”What are we going to do?”

Qin Tian asked.

”The magic transformation pool, the military’s research department wants to study it. To prevent the enemy from destroying it when they get desperate, we need to execute the decapitation strategy.”

There was indeed a mission, and though the Demigod’s method was not exceptional, it was standard enough. Qin Tian didn’t think much of it and just followed the Demigod to a cave deep in the forest.

”This is it. Stick close, break through the enemy line as fast as possible. A demonized macropod-type divine beast might appear inside.”

The Demigod briefly reminded him, then a faint Blue Light immediately emanated from his body.

Power of Heaven and Earth (Species-specific Esoteric Level, Active Skills) activated!

In the next second, Thunder flashed, and the Demigod’s figure vanished, leaving only a burnt smell in the air. Almost simultaneously, battle cries and beastly roars rose from the cave.

”Lord Demigod is rather impatient...”

Even with the additional decapitation strategy created by the Demigod, this mission felt like a mere outing to Qin Tian—in truth, even alone, Qin Tian could wipe out the entire Kangaroo Tribe; it was just a matter of time.

As a super expert of the Yanjing military—the strongest martial force of the world—Qin Tian was profoundly confident!

At this moment, Qin Tian exerted power through his legs, and in a flash, his figure disappeared into the cave.

...

The cave was dark and reeked of an indescribable stench. Less than a minute in, Qin Tian had already caught up to the Demigod.

A bone sword spontaneously formed in his right hand. With his Sword Light, Qin Tian quickly slaughtered a few Peak Level 6 kangaroos—just as he expected, this mission was incredibly easy.

The Demigod and Qin Tian swiftly advanced. Before the kangaroos in the cave’s depths could react, they had already carved a bloody path, reaching the very core of the cave.

A nearly ten-meter diameter pool, exuding a dense Demonic Qi, appeared before them.

With a wave, a Sword Light slashed backward, cutting the pursuing enemies behind him in two. Qin Tian, however, paid them no mind, his attention captured by the dark, viscous liquid in the pool.

”Is this the magic transformation pool? Doesn’t look easy to move it.”

”Pry up the whole thing and put it in the space ring. You cover the cave entrance for me.”

The Demigod said so.

”Got it...”

The division of labor was clear, and at this point, the decapitation mission was essentially a foregone conclusion, with no more variables.

As the Demigod trod upon the earth, the entire cave began to tremble. Stones on the ground jumped irregularly, until about ten seconds later, the ten-meter diameter pool trembled, then slowly levitated.

Controlling the earth’s power to separate the pool from the ground below was really a simple task for the Demigod...

After doing all this, the Demigod slowly approached, stretching out his right hand.

Just by touching this pool, it could be stored in the space ring—exactly as anticipated...

However...

When the finger touched the pool, nothing happened.

Qin Tian, who had been observing the situation, was first taken aback, then watched as the pool water churned and a giant mouse head emerged from it.

The enormous presence surprised Qin Tian slightly—just slightly—there was indeed a demonized macropod-type divine beast here, with decent strength and nearly 3w body points, plus the viscous pool water seemed to mask its presence, which was why the Demigod and Qin Tian were completely unaware.

But that was it...

A demonized macropod-type divine beast couldn’t possibly hinder the two, even with a sneak attack!

Just as Qin Tian expected, the moment the kangaroo emerged from the pool, it swung its fist heavily at the Demigod’s face. Accompanied by creaking sounds, the iron mask on the Demigod’s face visibly shattered and disintegrated, falling in iron fragments to the ground, until the punch paused, stopping just above the Demigod’s face.

The Demigod remained still, but the kangaroo suddenly let out a miserable howl...

Under the heavy blow, its hand bones broke...

”Boom!”

The Demigod retaliated with a powerful punch!

The punch stirred up a wave of air, compressing the atmosphere to liquid, striking the kangaroo’s head with crushing force, instantly scattering black, red, and white matter all over the ground.

The disparity in strength made the battle so decisive...

Easily killing a divine beast, the Demigod expressionlessly touched the pool again. This time, with no living creatures in the way, the pool was effortlessly taken into the space ring.

With everything done, the Demigod finally turned around, his expression calm as he spoke to Qin Tian.

”Mission accomplished, let’s go.”

”Hm.”

Qin Tian nodded, observing with a smile the visage beneath the Demigod’s mask.

”I say, Demigod Elder, you’re quite handsome, why bother hiding your face with a mask?”

Qin Tian teased, full of smiles, as he gazed at the unveiled face of the Demigod. Being Yanjing Assembly Site’s Protector God, the Demigod was always masked, leading to endless conjecture—some said he had a hideous visage, others speculated disfigurement, or even a face without features. Theories abounded...

But looking today, well, there’d be tales to brag about back home.

Qin Tian thought, then followed leisurely behind the Demigod, yet the familiar visage of the Demigod lingered in his memory.

Slowly, Qin Tian’s smile faded...he recalled a family photo displayed in Lin Tianxue’s sitting room...

”Gulp...”

The sound of swallowing resonated loudly in the silent cave, cold sweat breaking out on Qin Tian’s forehead as the Demigod’s silhouette aligned with a person known only in rumors, until the Demigod’s steps lightly halted up ahead.

”Seems I forgot something...”

The Demigod murmured aloud, then reached for his space ring, taking out another mask and donning it. Only after this did he turn to Qin Tian.

”Everything that happened here today is SSS-classified secret, so...”

Qin Tian slowly backed away, afraid the Demigod might strike him down, yet the anticipated attack didn’t come. Instead, the Demigod smiled at Qin Tian.

”Since you’re also a military expert, let this matter rest for now, but remember, you saw nothing today, understood?”

”...Understood...”
