Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

”Tsk, tsk, tsk, quite a haul...”

After sending off Sea King and his group, Fran personally took Wen Yu away, shedding the seriousness he had earlier, and said to Wen Yu with a smile.

Wen Yu gladly joked with Fran, ”I can’t help it; I’m a loner, ugly and poor, so I have to find some way to make a living with small trades.”

Hearing Wen Yu’s self-deprecation, Fran also laughed heartily.

Over the past five years, Fran has been responsible for linking the military with Wen Yu, becoming quite familiar with him. Plus, with Old Man Fran’s distinctive charisma, Wen Yu quickly became close with him—even if not lifelong friends, they’re certainly ordinary friends.

The two exchanged a few jokes and then turned back to discussing business.

”Sea King has arrived. Skyray, the Insect Tribe king, will also come this afternoon. Sea King is on our side, but Skyray has always had significant objections to the Human Race. Plus, there are some conflicts between the Tiger Tribe and Lion Clan. These are all things to watch out for at the All Races meeting.”

Fran rambled on while Wen Yu listened quietly to these ”global matters” until Fran delivered his summary.

”In short, as the various tribes grow larger, with more members and higher intelligence, the conflicts also intensify. This is all thanks to you; without you, this All Races meeting probably wouldn’t be held anymore. So, thank you; oh, this message is from Lin Haifeng, who asked me to pass it on to you.”

”Old Lin could tell me personally. Does he still need to have you relay it?”

The past hatreds and conflicts have faded, so Wen Yu doesn’t mind meeting Lin Haifeng and chatting.

”He’s having a tough time now; you have no idea. Remember Lin Tianxue?”

”We’ve dealt before. Last time, she was lacking tact, trying to snatch my Esoteric Level skill upgrade scroll.”

On this matter, Wen Yu did not show much anger, while Fran spoke with candor: ”You can’t blame Xiao Xue; it was Lin Haifeng who wanted to check her, giving him face in the process.”

Wen Yu shook his head, indicating it’s not a big deal.

”Lin Tianxue is now stirring things up in Yanjing, forming cliques. If Lin Haifeng didn’t only have this one daughter left, he would have dealt with Xiao Xue long ago. Ah, the mundane family matters.”

”What? She wants to be the boss of the Yanjing Assembly Site?”

Fran shook his head: ”She has self-awareness, knowing she doesn’t have that ability. She just wants to push her son forward. You know Lin Haifeng has two descendants of grandsons, and if the power gap isn’t too significant, the difference in authority between Protector God and Supreme Commander is enormous.”

”Just like now between your Demigod and Lin Haifeng.”

”Right, the Demigod as Protector God is basically just an advanced fighter. Previously, Tang One was the same; the true boss is still the Supreme Commander. Although professionists live long lives, unforeseen events and unexpected misfortunes can happen to anyone. Lin Haifeng is aware of the risks, and has begun grooming successors long ago—just that it’s Kuangliu’s duplicant’s son, which has left Xiao Xue displeased. Ah, perhaps Xiao Xue doesn’t realize that all her maneuverings are laid out on Lin Haifeng’s desk; I don’t know why the child turned out like this...”

At this moment, Fran seemed like an old man fussing over younger generations, even though it’s Lin Haifeng’s family matter, Fran appeared exhausted and worried, stirring Wen Yu’s urge to rib him...

”Speaking of, this isn’t much of your business, is it? Do you have something going on with Lin Haifeng?”

Old Man Fran was stunned, then glared at Wen Yu while waving his Civilization Cane at Wen Yu’s head: ”You brat...”

”Haha... Hahaha...”

The two of them jested for a while, then Fran grew serious again: ”Actually, you’re right; these concerns really aren’t my business, but I’m afraid... I truly am afraid, afraid Xiao Xue might lose her mind and call forth that person...”

Wen Yu fell silent immediately.

That person was the linchpin connecting Wen Yu and the military, as well as Wen Yu’s sole feared entity and the military’s nightmare...

”After the meeting, I’ll reinforce the seal on Tang Haofei’s dark powers at Eternal Sky City once more, but it isn’t foolproof. You all must dispatch people to monitor closely too; I will only say this once—Tang Haofei absolutely cannot awaken, this is a matter of principle. If Lin Tianxue really wants to awaken Tang Haofei, tell Lin Haifeng that I will hunt her down to the end of the earth.”

Fran nodded—about Tang Haofei, the military and Wen Yu are firmly aligned.

”If Lin Tianxue shows that intent, I will hide it from Lin Haifeng and inform you immediately. You’ll need to act decisively then. As for Lin Haifeng, a moment of grief is preferable to seeing Yanjing destroyed.”

After Fran finished speaking, the mood grew heavy; neither speaking further, only walking silently until a large mansion appeared in Wen Yu’s view.

”You’ll stay here for the next two days; it’s quieter. I’ll come back to call you when the meeting starts tomorrow. Have a good rest; you’ll be busy then...”

”Okay.”

Wen Yu nodded, watching Fran leave.

...

The entire mansion wasn’t large, but it was tastefully decorated and had plenty of servants—Lin Haifeng had considered everything, ensuring Wen Yu would be well taken care of here.

After a simple meal, Wen Yu planned to return to the bedroom for either a nap or to study skills—a day, though brief, shouldn’t be squandered.

However, before Wen Yu reached the bedroom, a servant reported an unfortunate message to him.

”Lord Wen Yu, Lord Kasu is here to visit...”

”Huh? Kasu? What’s he here for?”

Wen Yu was puzzled, as he seemingly had little acquaintance with Kasu...

”Perhaps he’s just here to pay his respects to you,”

The servant spoke gently, yet revealed the truth—Lin Haifeng’s selection of competent servants left no need for further explanation, and Wen Yu’s influence was evident. The news of Wen Yu’s arrival in Yanjing stirred not only military generals and high-ranking officials, but even some other races.

Paying respects and leaving a good impression is always worthwhile.

”Paying respects...”

Wen Yu was speechless but upon reflection, deduced Kasu’s intentions.

In that moment, Wen Yu felt a bad premonition.

It seemed certain his rest was doomed to be interrupted; damn Lin Haifeng had let the cat out of the bag, making Wen Yu’s residence in Yanjing known to everyone...

Wen Yu grumbled irritably, but in reality, Lin Haifeng couldn’t be blamed—Wen Yu had stayed there for the first All Races meeting, and was again for the second. Anyone keen to find out Wen Yu’s residence wouldn’t find it difficult.
