Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Standing at the foot of the wall outside the Yanjing Assembly Site, Wen Yu gazed deeply at the spectacular steel giant city before him.

Once, Lin Haifeng drove him out of Yanjing in disgrace, but now, he was invited back by Lin Haifeng.

No complex emotions, really. Lin Haifeng outmaneuvered him back then, which was undeniably frustrating, but less skill and strength meant deserving to be fooled, and the vow made when leaving Yanjing—that he wouldn’t come back to this damn place...

Obviously, he broke it.

In fact, Wen Yu had long stopped caring about those trivial matters—compared to the pressure from the Demon Tribe and the enhancement in strength, those were indeed minor issues.

It must be said, Lin Haifeng was indeed capable. Without Tang Haofei and Wen Yu as reborners, Lin Haifeng might have long conquered the world with the scale of the Yanjing Assembly Site. Moreover, the development of the Yanjing Assembly Site over the past two years was evident. If the Star of Africa was a wild black market, then Yanjing was an international metropolis.

Given the scale of the Yanjing Assembly Site, the daily influx of people was indisputably massive. Wen Yu stood by the city gate, surrounded by adventurers, merchants, and residents of the area hurrying by. With his strength, Wen Yu could easily obscure others’ senses, and at this moment, he stood there with the crowd around him turning a blind eye to him.

Listening to the words and actions of the people around him and watching the quirky events unfolding at the city gate, he found it quite intriguing.

Twenty days ago, after exiting the Spirit World’s Treasure Land, Wen Yu immediately went into ”meditative seclusion,” spending five days enhancing his soul strength. Then he started researching skills; the gains weren’t large, but quite scattered, making him lose track of time. If it weren’t for Fran reminding him again about the meeting of All Races, Wen Yu would have indeed forgotten about it entirely.

Having promised, and with nothing better to do, Wen Yu decided to take a trip to Yanjing, considering it as a small break for himself.

After waiting for about 3 minutes, without Fran arriving, the crowd began to stir as if a major event was about to happen. Wen Yu, drawn by the clamor, squinted at the spectacle.

In the distance, a colossal turtle slowly appeared on the horizon, towering ten meters high with spiky scales on its back. Upon the back was a built sedan chair, surrounded by swirling mist where faint blue silhouettes loomed.

”It’s the Sea King Tribe, indeed it is!”

”Today is truly eye-opening...”

”Hey, old chap, what’s going on in Yanjing these days? Yesterday, I saw a parade of giant rats, now all sorts of bizarre entities are showing up.”

”Well, you wouldn’t know, would you? It’s the third All Races Meeting. I’m telling you, now’s the time to gather some Demon Beast corpses or parts. These are sought-after by mutant beasts. Whether we feast or not, depends entirely on these upcoming days.”

”Great insight, old chap...”

The appearance of the Sea King Tribe had not caused fear—as the apocalypse approached seven years, humanity had ample time to understand the world’s development amidst the apocalyptic era. Under Lin Haifeng’s public and private influence, humans had broadly accepted the current situation of governance by all races. In fact, mutant beasts often frequent Yanjing, albeit with weaker prowess.

Nothing new happens under the son of heaven’s feet.

The giant turtle’s footsteps thundered like miniature earthquakes. As the Sea King Tribe neared, Wen Yu’s vision grew clearer, piercing the mist above the sedan chair to see humanoid figures behind.

Their azure scale armor resembled the Ancient Demon Tribe; the king of the sea, indeed the Sea King Tribe... yes, terribly controlled by Lin Haifeng.

Wen Yu hadn’t interacted with the Sea King Tribe. Humans belong to the terrestrial sphere, while the Sea King Tribe to the marine, making encounters between the two quite unlikely unless necessary. The Sea King Tribe certainly possessed impressive might, even if Wen Yu hadn’t directly engaged them, he was well-informed of their expanse.

The tribe comprised less than a thousand but boasted over a hundred divine beast types and nearly a dozen Limit Breakthrough Level mutant beasts. With their reign over all sea beasts, dominating Yanjing posed little challenge.

”These were taken for a ride by Lin Haifeng...”

Maliciously, Wen Yu thought, no matter how formidable you are, even your leader has become Lin Haifeng’s lackey...

The giant turtle continued advancing, Wen Yu focused closely on the Sea King Tribe members on its back, clad in the Heaven-covering Robe, concealing any aura.

Until disturbance arose at the city gate.

”The military has arrived.”

Omnipresent idle gossipers provided Wen Yu with the latest intelligence. Soon, troops advanced from the city gate clearing a path for the Sea King Tribe, and leading them with silver hair was Fran.

”Look, there’s Lord Fran, the military’s Chief of Staff, reputed to rank below only Commander Lin and Lord Demigod, even Lord Fang Bai cannot compare.”

Fran’s reputation resonated throughout Yanjing.

”Clearly, the Sea King Tribe is extraordinary, to warrant Lord Fran’s personal reception.”

”Of course, the Sea King Tribe is humanity’s strongest ally.”

The speaker spoke proudly, unaware the relationship extended far beyond mere allies.

As Fran reached the giant turtle’s side, the turtle halted and lowered itself obediently. The mist over the sedan chair dissipated, revealing the figures of three Sea King Tribe members within.

Sharing the same fierce appearance, azure scales covered them from head to toe, four thick arms, sharp claws, and a lingering aura. They looked fairly indistinct—in humans’ eyes, the Sea King Tribe resembled each other like birds...

And seated in the center, wearing a crown announced their noble status.

It was none other than the Sea King themselves!

”To have Lord Fran personally greet us is truly an immense honor...”

The Sea King’s voice was soft, yet Wen Yu, being what he was, captured every word clearly even from afar.

”Whose refined grammar did they learn from?”

Wen Yu lightly jested, then witnessed Fran with an impeccable grin, repeatedly expressing ”Of course, of course,” while quickly scanning the surroundings with his perception.

The action did not escape the Sea King’s notice.

Though Fran’s conduct bordered on rudeness, the Sea King remained neither angry nor dissatisfied, rather intriguingly inquired, ”Lord Fran, what is this?”

Fran replied with a bitter smile, ”Not hiding from His Majesty the Sea King, my visit to welcome Your Honor is indeed coincidental; the main purpose is to receive someone else.”

The Sea King raised a brow at Fran’s frankly impolite remark—welcoming you is incidental, the other person is the priority, implying they held lesser status?

But, in high positions, emotions mask themselves. Having interacted with Fran on numerous occasions, the Sea King instantly thought of someone.

”You must be referring to Lord Sequence Number 2.”

Fran nodded, finding no surprise in the Sea King’s deduction—when Fran’s hint was so clear, failing to guess the right person would tarnish their name.

”From that direction, a dangerous gaze marks where Lord Sequence Number 2 undoubtedly is.”

The Sea King extended a hand, directly indicating Wen Yu’s location. This surprised Wen Yu—a mere gaze alerted the Sea King to his presence...

Clearly, this meant some extraordinary means were employed, as Wen Yu’s strength was a factor, but the effects of the Heaven-covering Robe was also apparent, yet the Sea King detected him under such circumstances, implying some rather remarkable ability.

Fran followed the Sea King’s direction and soon sighted Wen Yu in a black robe.

Staying inconspicuous in the crowd, Wen Yu embodied humility and insignificance, akin to a mere cheerleader...
