Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

”The matter is settled. There are still countless Demon Fiends charging unceasingly from the Demon Realm’s Gate and the border regions of Germany. You’ll have to deal with these encounters yourselves.”

”Thank you.”

After these brief words, Wen Yu teleported directly back to Eternal Sky City via the Exchange Stone Pillar.

Eternal Sky City looked the same as always.

However, with his powerful Perception Ability, Wen Yu could sense that Eternal Sky City had become more ’bustling.’

This wasn’t a good sign. An increase in bustle meant a rise in Eternal Sky City’s population. A rising population, in turn, indicated that somewhere on Earth, yet another assembly site had been defeated and destroyed...

Before the apocalypse, there were over two hundred countries worldwide. Now, perhaps only a few dozen remained. Even among these, most relied on a single assembly site for their ’government.’

Can this still be considered a country?

Wen Yu briefly pondered these issues concerning humanity and nations before deciding to leave them for Lin Haifeng and Tang Haofei to resolve. Why should I concern myself with such things?

He teleported directly back to the Yanjing Assembly Site. The moment he stepped away from the Exchange Stone Pillar, Wen Yu called Qin Tian.

”I’m back. Have you sorted things out on your end?”

”Not yet.”

Hearing Qin Tian’s reply, Wen Yu was surprised.

”Not yet? Surely it can’t be that slow?”

Qin Tian hesitated on the other end before reluctantly explaining, ”Tang Haofei has been incredibly busy. Not long after you left, he went out to handle some problems and still hasn’t returned.”

”What about Qin Shiyuan?”

”The military used special instruments to temporarily stabilize Qin Shiyuan’s condition. Tang Haofei said he would deal with the virus in her system once he was finished with his current tasks...”

Wen Yu paused for a moment before asking again, ”What do you think? Is everything okay?”

”I’m fine. Yuanyuan is currently in the underground lab at the Science Academy. There are no safety issues; it’s just a matter of waiting.”

”Good. If that’s the case, we’ll wait a bit longer.”

After ending the call, Wen Yu stood in place, deep in thought.

After a while, he shook his head, a wry smile on his lips.

Perhaps I’m overthinking this...

Given Tang Haofei’s position, he must be incredibly busy... Especially now... when the Sea King is about to arrive and Yanjing is preparing to sign the alliance. Compared to the alliance between two races and undermining Lin Haifeng’s ’Sea King Control Plan,’ delaying Qin Shiyuan’s treatment is understandable. Besides, Qin Tian isn’t worried, so why should I be?

But...

Yet, the thought, Can’t he even spare six hours?, kept nagging at him...

After some contemplation, Wen Yu took out his communicator again and dialed Tang Haofei.

Unfortunately, the line was constantly busy; Tang Haofei was evidently occupied with something else.

For a moment, standing in the vast Yanjing Assembly Site, Wen Yu felt a pang of loneliness, a sense of having nowhere to go...

This place really isn’t for me.

Thinking this, Wen Yu gave a self-deprecating chuckle and turned towards the outer city zone.

Since there was nowhere else to go, he decided he might as well check on Yang Hong and Wang Fucai. He wondered how their Three Skulls Society was faring...

The inner city zone wasn’t densely populated. It was a military-controlled area, housing ’barracks, the Tactical Command Department, and the Science Academy.’ In pre-apocalypse terms, it was essentially a military restricted zone!

However, the outer city zone was very different.

As soon as he stepped out of the inner city zone’s gate, a cacophony of noise assaulted Wen Yu’s ears.

Survivors from destroyed smaller assembly sites and the remaining populations of various nations, after being rescued via Eternal Sky City’s teleportation channel, are transferred to Yanjing. Upon first arriving at the Yanjing Assembly Site, these refugees are invariably placed in the outer city zone.

The Yanjing Assembly Site, originally well-planned, might soon undergo another expansion—the construction of a second ring in the outer city zone to accommodate the massive influx of refugees.

The outer city zone of the Yanjing Assembly Site was already considerable, and this new expansion could make it larger than pre-apocalypse Yanjing.

This alone hinted at the staggering current population of the Yanjing Assembly Site...

He walked through the dense crowd. Though not quite shoulder to shoulder, the congestion felt like being stuck in rush-hour traffic, a sensation Wen Yu detested. However, the situation had its advantages. From the chatter of idle bystanders and passersby, Wen Yu could glean much of the information he sought.

For instance, in three days, the Sea King would personally visit the Yanjing Assembly Site. He would sign the alliance agreement between the two races in the largest plaza of the outer city zone, in front of all the residents of the Yanjing Assembly Site.

According to the official statement, this simple document represented a great leap for the Human Race and a major step in Earth’s defense against the Demon Tribe amidst the demon plague.

This information asymmetry made the ecstatic crowd seem all the more laughable and pathetic to Wen Yu...

They would never know the true intentions of Lin Haifeng, the man they considered their ’sky.’

Furthermore, from these gossiping onlookers, Wen Yu also learned of Tang Haofei’s whereabouts.

”The Lord Protector God has already gone to Bohai Bay to personally welcome the Sea King.”

Hearing these two topics repeated endlessly, Wen Yu lost interest in jostling through the crowd, which reeked of sweat and blood.

With a thought, his darkness ability activated. Wen Yu’s body seemed to melt, instantly vanishing into the ubiquitous shadows. In his elemental state, he moved towards the distant headquarters of the Three Skulls Society.

”Wen Yu, you’re here.”

The Three Skulls Society’s new headquarters had relocated. Previously, when Wanping was in charge, its headquarters had been in a dark, hidden location. But now, under Yang Hong’s leadership, there was no need to hide like rats in a sewer.

As long as Wen Yu was alive, and as long as Lin Haifeng hadn’t publicly declared war on him, the military would turn a blind eye to the Three Skulls Society.

Where there is light, there will be shadows. In reality, an organization like the Three Skulls Society was an indispensable part of the Yanjing Assembly Site—the military always needed someone else to do its dirty work. The Three Skulls Society served as a useful tool, well-suited to taking the blame for minor or major issues when they came to light.

In fact, according to Yang Hong, the military had sent representatives to discuss continued cooperation the very day after he took control of the Three Skulls Society.

Wen Yu nodded at Yang Hong, then turned to Wang Fucai and Qin Tian beside him, raising an eyebrow slightly.

”You’re here too?”

Qin Tian’s face was etched with bitterness. ”There’s nowhere else to go...” he said helplessly.

This mirrored Wen Yu’s own situation...

”Where’s Arthur?”

”He’s at the Science Academy with my sister.”

After this brief exchange, silence fell.

After a moment, Wen Yu spoke first.

”Has Tang Haofei said when he’ll deal with your sister’s condition?”

”After the alliance between the two races is finalized.”

Wen Yu nodded. ”Once this is all over, we’re leaving. Coming to the Yanjing Assembly Site was a mistake...”
