Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

BANG.

The chunks of rock above were violently shoved away, and a figure floated down through a gaping hole in the ceiling.

Upon seeing the figure descending from above, Arthur instantly relaxed.

Everything turned out as he had anticipated. Bringing Qin Shiyuan with him, there was no need to run recklessly outside, charging into the Demon Fiend’s line; doing so would be riskier. It was better to quietly wait for military assistance or Qin Tian in this deserted sewer tunnel. Given that Qin Shiyuan had a locator and there was such a substantial commotion from the Demon Fiend’s attack, there was no way Qin Tian could be unaware of the situation.

”How’s my sister?”

Before Qin Tian had a chance to take in his surroundings, his first glance fell upon Qin Shiyuan lying to the side.

Arthur slowly shook his head.

”Nothing out of the ordinary. She was just frightened by the bloody scene.”

From Qin Shiyuan’s demeanor, this explanation made the most sense.

Qin Tian ignored Arthur’s one-sided account and promptly stepped forward to thoroughly examine Qin Shiyuan’s body.

Everything was normal.

After a brief check, Qin Tian could finally let out a sigh of relief. He stood up and nodded towards Arthur.

”Thank you...”

Hearing Qin Tian’s words of gratitude, Arthur was somewhat embarrassed.

”It’s my fault. If I hadn’t brought Qin Shiyuan to the market, this wouldn’t have happened.”

Their conversation was merely the polite discourse expected between a boyfriend and an older brother; blame wasn’t something that could be assigned in a word or two. For now, both refrained from further discussing this trivial issue.

Watching Qin Tian pick up Qin Shiyuan, Arthur immediately followed behind him.

”Didn’t expect you could arrive so fast...”

Qin Tian nodded without turning back.

”The incident was quite severe. I received the message even in the Eternal Sky City. Once I heard the news, I rushed over right away. By the way, why didn’t you send me any communication?”

”Time was of the essence. By the time I regained my senses, Yuanyuan and I had already fallen into the sewer. There aren’t many Demon Fiends down here, and plus, the military had already responded, so I didn’t think to bother you...”

Actually, by the time Arthur and Qin Shiyuan had plunged into the sewer, sending any communication had become unnecessary. The narrow sewer environment provided Arthur, whose group combat ability wasn’t strong, a perfect battlefield. Under such conditions, he was confident he could keep Qin Shiyuan safe.

Moreover, the military had responded super quickly; even if Qin Tian had rushed over, it likely would have been a wasted trip.

Simply put, everything happened too quickly and too abruptly, and it all ended just as swiftly...

The ten-meter-high entrance was like a small step for those of Sequence Number 4 and Sequence Number 15.

With a simple jump, the three of them had landed on the ground outside.

A Demon Fiend in the distance, feasting on a corpse, noted their presence. Opening its jaw full of fangs, it let out an eerie howl, only to be torn to pieces by a gust of Sword Qi.

With Arthur alone, protecting Qin Shiyuan amidst the chaotic battlefield and the Demon Group of sufficiently high average levels, there was some pressure. But with Qin Tian added to the mix, it wasn’t a simple case of one plus one equaling two.

It was no exaggeration to say that in this area, the combination of Qin Tian and Arthur was powerful enough to dominate.

Besides, reinforcements had already arrived.

Before Arthur and Qin Tian could get too far, they encountered military personnel.

”Brother Qin Tian.”

Afar, a joyous youth in military uniform waved both hands at Qin Tian.

He was Sequence Number 87, a Sequence-class military expert. Although young, at the Level 5 stage, strength and age weren’t always proportionate.

”Little Wang.”

Qin Tian nodded at Sequence Number 87, then decisively moved towards him with Arthur.

”What happened to you all?”

Sequence Number 87—Little Wang, whose real name was Wang Feng—was a boy of sixteen or seventeen. Looking at Qin Shiyuan, reeking and limp in Qin Tian’s arms, he asked with a questioning expression.

”My sister. She was strolling around at the market when the incident occurred.”

”Oh.”

Wang Feng nodded knowingly.

Life after the apocalypse had significantly matured Wang Feng, who hadn’t yet left his school days behind. At the very least, he maintained a calm demeanor even when faced with a stench potent enough to make an ordinary person faint on the spot.

”The medical team is right behind us. Does this young lady need immediate treatment?”

A rapid response rescue team, a Demon Fiend-clearing military unit, and a medical team formed the standard configuration for responding to such incidents.

Hearing Wang Feng’s words, Qin Tian nodded immediately, without any hesitation.

”That would be a great help.”

「The task of clearing out the remaining Demon Fiends was now unrelated to Qin Tian and Arthur.」

Regarding this incident, even for Arthur, who was involved, there was only one interpretation: the Demon Fiends had launched a premeditated, retaliatory attack. Compared to the inner city zone guarded by the Black Tortoise, the crowded market was an excellent hunting ground. As for Qin Shiyuan, she was merely an unfortunate casualty...

Anyway, since nothing life-threatening had occurred, why worry?

Carrying Qin Shiyuan, Qin Tian took Arthur straight into the military ambulance.

The military doctor quickly checked Qin Shiyuan’s vital signs. With the help of two female nurses, the slime and stench were cleared from her body. It didn’t take long for the check-up results to be ready.

”There’s nothing serious. Her fainting was only due to fright and the disgusting smell the slime emits. However, we found some unusual substances in the slime on her body—components we’ve never seen before. We cannot currently guarantee that this unknown slime won’t pose a potential threat to the human body. The equipment here is insufficient for further investigation...”

Qin Tian glanced around at the modest furnishings of the ambulance and slowly nodded.

”In that case, I’ll take my sister to the First Military Hospital in the inner city zone. The facilities there should suffice, right?”

The doctor nodded. ”That’s Yanjing’s most technologically advanced medical center; it will definitely suffice.”

With his sister still deep in a coma, and an unknown slime on her body that could potentially have adverse effects, sending her to a hospital was the obvious choice for Qin Tian.

Thinking about this, Qin Tian and Arthur exchanged a look. Without hesitation, Qin Tian immediately picked up Qin Shiyuan and dashed towards the inner city zone. As for Arthur, he promptly deactivated his Soul-Armored form near the military personnel and started to clean the slime from his body.
