Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

”1,000 points!”

Wen Yu clutched Qin Tian tightly with both hands, forcibly lifting him.

Even if it’s for his sister, a grown man kneeling on the ground looks rather unseemly.

”I can only provide a maximum of 1,000 physique points for Qin Shiyuan. Qin Tian, you have to understand, I also face many problems. 1,000 points is close to a tenth of my total strength; that’s my limit!”

Having said that, Wen Yu immediately turned to Wei Tian.

”Now, tell me the truth: is a limit of 1,000 physique points enough for Qin Shiyuan to last ten hours?”

”It’s enough!”

Wei Tian had no need to deceive or hide this from Wen Yu.

”Then let’s start!”

「...」

A tube as slippery as a biological tentacle wrapped around Wen Yu’s arm, its other end attached to Qin Shiyuan’s body.

As soon as the connection was established, a suction force—neither too strong nor too weak—immediately emanated from the tube.

After a quick assessment, Wen Yu felt he could sever the connection at any moment, allowing him to finally relax.

Wen Yu felt an unknown energy flowing from his body, continuously passing through the tube into Qin Shiyuan on the hospital bed.

11,352...

11,351...

His extraordinary control over his body allowed Wen Yu to easily perceive the changes in his own physical condition.

This feeling of permanently lowering the upper limit of one’s physique wasn’t pleasant by any means.

On the hospital bed opposite Wen Yu, Qin Shiyuan munched on high-energy energy bars while absorbing the massive energy from his body. Under the intervention of this terrifying external energy, Qin Shiyuan’s already frail body quickly restored to its original form, as if inflated.

Then, Qin Shiyuan’s complexion grew rosy.

The gentle life force wouldn’t cause Qin Shiyuan’s body to burst from overload. This surplus energy accumulated within her. On one hand, it provided enough nourishment for the Seed of Destruction. On the other, it constantly altered her own physique.

Strictly speaking, the Seed of Destruction wasn’t a weapon for destroying enemies, but a tool for self-strengthening—assuming one could feed the greedy little thing.

「...」

The energy from Wen Yu’s body gradually ”filled” Qin Shiyuan.

Under the gentle supply of energy, Qin Shiyuan felt as comfortable as if soaking in warm water. Before long, she gradually fell asleep.

”Is it enough?” Wen Yu, seeing this, asked Wei Tian who was beside him.

”The more, the better. Life energy is harmless; it accepts everything it’s given,” Wei Tian responded without looking back, bustling about the emergency room and constantly scribbling in a notebook.

Wen Yu shrugged lightly.

A thousand points then, so be it.

Although it wasn’t a small amount, Wei Tian had been right about one thing: for Breakthrough Achievers, increasing their maximum physique was indeed much easier than for ordinary professionists.

「Half an hour later.」

Wen Yu slowly detached the slimy tube from his arm, got up, and stretched lazily.

This sudden drop in his physique, almost a tenth, made Wen Yu feel utterly screwed.

Yet, facing Qin Tian, Arthur, and the promises he’d made, Wen Yu couldn’t turn a blind eye.

Seeing Qin Tian’s grateful gaze, Wen Yu slowly nodded.

”I estimate that in a few hours, the military will send someone to contact you. They’ll ask you to do certain things. I hope you can notify me in time.”

Qin Tian nodded in understanding. Though he didn’t yet grasp the full extent of the situation, he knew no possibility could be dismissed.

”Let’s leave it at that for now. You guys wait here; I have some things to take care of.”

With that, Wen Yu walked out of the emergency room, his face expressionless, and sprinted towards the military headquarters.

「...」

”I want to see Lin Haifeng!”

That was the first thing Wen Yu said upon arriving at the military headquarters. And the only thing.

Interestingly, Wen Yu’s status in the Yanjing Assembly Site was quite unique. He was like a partner to the military, yet held no official rank. Despite this, he could freely enter and exit the military headquarters and even meet Lin Haifeng directly.

Who could truly understand the intricacies of this situation?

The low-ranking personnel were oblivious to recent events. Faced with Wen Yu’s ”request,” these low-level clerical staff had no way to refuse. Led by two receptionists, Wen Yu proceeded directly to the door of Lin Haifeng’s office.

And then, he kicked!

「...」

BANG!

The solid wood door shattered. Wen Yu ignored the two Praetorian Guards at the entrance, who had tensed up, and looked straight inside.

The sudden noise didn’t seem to disturb the two people inside.

”General!” Lin Haifeng declared. He slammed his red chess piece onto the board with a resounding THWACK!, sealing Fang Bai’s fate in the game. Then, leisurely picking up his teacup, he took a sip before finally turning his gaze to Wen Yu.

”Quite a temper, aren’t we? You must understand, finding a suitable piece of red pine for a door is rather troublesome these days.”

”Enough of that nonsense!” Wen Yu cut off Lin Haifeng’s casual banter unceremoniously. He sat down on the sofa, met Lin Haifeng’s eyes, and asked seriously, ”Why Qin Tian?”

”What do you mean by ’why Qin Tian’?”

”You should know what I mean. When I refused to act, you targeted Qin Tian. He must be your backup plan for the Sea King Control Project, right?”

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Lin Haifeng shrugged noncommittally.

”Actually, I still don’t understand what you’re talking about.”

Seeing Lin Haifeng’s smiling face, Wen Yu frowned.

Adamant denial...

Wen Yu was more than eighty percent certain that Lin Haifeng had orchestrated the entire affair, but he had overlooked one thing:

When Lin Haifeng decided to play the rogue, who could possibly control him?

The answer was: nobody.

Wen Yu slowly stood up, his eyes cold and serious, carefully observing the layout of the entire office.

A dangerous feeling slowly emanated from Wen Yu, and the gradually increasing murderous intent made Fang Bai straighten up, even putting his hand on his space ring.

However, Lin Haifeng remained unmoved.

”Wen Yu,” Lin Haifeng said flatly.

”First, I want to remind you that in the places I frequent, you can’t kill me. This is a necessary security measure for me as the leader of the Human Race. You should understand this, so there’s no need to try and scare me.”

”Secondly, some things, once understood, are best left unsaid. It’s better for everyone that way. You should understand my meaning now.”

”Furthermore, you might want to consider carefully what this matter truly has to do with you. Frankly, I don’t think your relationship with Qin Tian and Qin Shiyuan amounts to much, does it? Those 1,000 physique points should be enough to clear any debt of gratitude.”

”Finally, and most importantly, I reiterate: I genuinely have nothing to do with this matter!”

Once Lin Haifeng adamantly denied any connection to the matter, it became irrelevant whether he was involved or not.

In this world, if Lin Haifeng, the one wielding the most power, insisted on something, it would inevitably become fact. Even with Wen Yu’s strength, he couldn’t recklessly confront Lin Haifeng over Qin Tian and Qin Shiyuan without concrete proof.

Having thought things through, Wen Yu looked at Lin Haifeng’s calm eyes, slowly retracted the power fluctuations around him, and sat back down on the sofa.

”Qin Tian is under my protection,” Wen Yu began slowly.

However, before he could continue, Lin Haifeng interrupted him.

”Are you sure he’s *your* man?”

Wen Yu was taken aback.

”The Seed of Destruction... it takes 10,000 physique points to ’destroy’ it.”
