Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

There’s always an eerie calm before the storm.

Of course, the only ones who could feel this ”calm” were the high-ranking members of the Human Race privy to the plan. The rest of the ordinary people were awaiting the major event of the alliance between the two species. For the common folk, this alliance was undoubtedly a joyous occasion.

The Sea King, oblivious to the sinister atmosphere brewing in the Yanjing Assembly Site, spent most of his time in the library after obtaining Lin Haifeng’s approval, greedily soaking up the knowledge of the Human Race.

About all of this, Wen Yu was ignorant, or rather, chose to stay unaware.

At this time, Wen Yu displayed the characteristics of a hardcore homebody to the fullest, passing each day within the new headquarters of the Three Skulls Society with his few soul pets, relishing his solitary existence.

Wen Yu was waiting—waiting for everything to end, waiting for Tang Haofei to solve Qin Shiyuan’s problem. Then he would immediately flee far away.

And within this oddly silent atmosphere, two days flew by in the blink of an eye.

”Welcome, viewers, to the live broadcast of this alliance ceremony. I am your host, Li Xiang.”

On the TV screen, the military channel started broadcasting the alliance ceremony early in the morning. Watching the host’s beaming, excited face, Wen Yu glanced down at his watch—it was eight o’clock.

The alliance ceremony was scheduled for ten o’clock in the morning.

Of course, this process will inevitably include all sorts of speeches, and Lin Haifeng’s ”Sea King Control Plan,” hidden at some unknown point. This ”drama” probably won’t be fully played out until dusk.

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.

The door was knocked, and Yang Hong walked in carrying a tray of steaming food. In his other hand, he held a red invitation.

”Boss, the military sent this invitation this morning, inviting us to observe the alliance ceremony. Lin Haifeng has saved some good seats for us.”

”Throw it out.”

Wen Yu took the breakfast from Yang Hong, ignoring the invitation.

Afterward, Wen Yu pondered for a moment, then said decisively to Yang Hong, ”In a bit, call everyone here. Nobody from our side is going to that bullshit alliance ceremony today!”

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Yang Hong didn’t join him for breakfast but immediately got up and went out to handle things.

It didn’t take long for Yang Hong to return with Wang Fucai and Qin Tian, walking back into Wen Yu’s room.

Everyone who needed to be here was.

As for those who hadn’t arrived, Wen Yu was still somewhat uneasy.

”Where’s Arthur?” Wen Yu asked.

Qin Tian hesitated for a moment. ”He might be with my sister. Let me ask him.”

After speaking, Qin Tian immediately took out his communicator and left the room.

Through the partially ajar door, Wen Yu could clearly hear Qin Tian’s conversation with Arthur.

”Where are you guys?” Qin Tian asked.

”We’re still in the underground lab. Oh, good news! Tang Haofei just came over, and he’s currently enhancing Qin Shiyuan’s physical limit. It won’t take long for Yuanyuan to make a full recovery.”

Hearing this, Qin Tian let out a heavy sigh.

In Wen Yu’s mind, this meant Qin Tian was relieved.

So, Qin Tian promptly answered, ”I’ll be there right away!”

After saying that, Qin Tian immediately hung up the communicator, turned around, and re-entered the room.

Seeing Qin Tian looking at him questioningly, Wen Yu smiled and said, ”If you want to go, then go. It’s a good thing, and I have no reason to stop you. When you bring Qin Shiyuan and Arthur back, we’ll leave Yanjing immediately. That alliance ceremony isn’t worth watching.”

It was just a matter of picking someone up; Wen Yu didn’t think too much about it. Qin Tian’s hesitation was directed at the requirement Wen Yu had just proposed—no one was allowed to go to the alliance ceremony. However, fetching his sister was undoubtedly very important to Qin Tian. Wen Yu knew what was more important.

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Qin Tian chuckled and nodded, then turned and left the room.

Everything happened just as it was supposed to. Even in retrospect, when Wen Yu reflected on everything that had just occurred, he couldn’t help but give Qin Tian a thumbs up... Great acting!

「...」

Qin Tian walked downstairs, his pace neither fast nor slow. After exiting the main door, he finally let out a deep sigh.

The conversation he’d just had with Arthur was merely part of their backup plan. Tang Haofei, or rather Lin Haifeng, had anticipated that Wen Yu might forbid his men from participating in the Alliance Ceremony. So, contingencies for all scenarios had been incorporated into the plan. The military’s Strategic Command Center had devised no fewer than ten strategies in advance for how Qin Tian could slip away under Wen Yu’s nose! Lin Haifeng had prepared thoroughly for the plan’s success.

But what about him? Was he ready to bear the wrath of the Sea Clan, Wen Yu, and even the entire Human Race? The answer was no... Dealing with Wen Yu was manageable; he would probably understand the secrecy and deception. But even with Wen Yu’s power, he would need at least one Esoteric Level skill to willingly take on the risk of being hunted by the Sea Clan. So, when this risk fell upon his own head... The future...

Qin Tian shook his head abruptly.

Don’t think about the future! What’s the point? He couldn’t just watch Qin Shiyuan die!

So, Qin Tian reassessed his skills, his gaze lingering on ’Profound Sword Technique’ for a long time.

A sword strike with Hundredfold Strike... That should be enough... he thought.

After a while, Qin Tian gently adjusted his collar. He took out a pure black robe with intricate patterns on the back from his space ring, casually draped it over himself, pulled up the hood to conceal his entire body, and walked resolutely towards the People’s Square in the outer city zone.

Sipping the red wine Yang Hong had brought and eating tasty snacks, Wen Yu chatted idly with Yang Hong and Wang Fucai.

Time ticked by, second by second.

Until the hands of his wristwatch pointed to nine-forty.

”What’s taking so long? Does picking someone up take this much time?” Wen Yu muttered.

Hearing Wen Yu, Wang Fucai, who was gnawing on a chicken leg nearby, mumbled indistinctly, ”Doesn’t Tang Haofei still need to transfer physical attributes? Don’t rush.”

That might be true, but Wen Yu couldn’t shake an ominous premonition.

He took out a communicator from his space ring and dialed Qin Tian.

No answer...

He then tried Arthur’s communicator.

Still no answer!

”Maybe the signal in the underground research facility isn’t great...” Wang Fucai offered.

Neither Wang Fucai nor Yang Hong felt any sense of urgency.

To put it bluntly, what did Arthur and Qin Tian matter to them? Their strength wasn’t much greater than their own, and they weren’t particularly close. Yang Hong and Wang Fucai genuinely didn’t care much about what happened to the two.

Wen Yu, of course, ignored Wang Fucai’s nonsense. Frowning, he pondered for a long time before slowly putting down the communicator.

Perhaps they really were delayed by something. Besides, he didn’t even know the way to the underground research facility; even if he wanted to pick them up, he wouldn’t know where to start! And at this particular time...

Wen Yu glanced down at his watch, then at the countdown on the TV screen.

He really, truly, had no desire whatsoever to go out!
