Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 553: Chapter 120: Alliance Established_1

On the thirteenth day since Tang Haofei had entered the cave, Walter finally saw Tang Haofei appear.

Looking at the figure at the entrance of the cave—bald but still standing tall—Walter heaved a heavy sigh of relief.

It’s good that he’s safe...

The Sea King, who had been waiting with Walter for thirteen days, was even more impatient.

”How did it go? Did you find anything?”

Tang Haofei looked at the Sea King’s expectant eyes. After a moment of silence, he slowly shook his head.

”I’m sorry, I didn’t find anything...”

...

The Sea King wasn’t thrilled with this answer, but he didn’t express any resentment either. He had a premonition that the item would greatly benefit the Sea Clan—in fact, the Sea King’s premonition was quite accurate, but he didn’t know exactly how it would help. Furthermore, the Sea King wasn’t absolutely certain his premonition was correct. Therefore, while it would be good to have that unknown item, its absence wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Life has to go on...

Therefore, the remarkably open-minded Sea King didn’t bring up the matter again. After returning to Deep Blue City with Tang Haofei and Walter, he immediately began discussing alliance matters with Tang Haofei—of course, the alliance ceremony would be held at the Yanjing Assembly Site.

On one hand, the Sea King Tribe needed Human help in areas like city planning, infrastructure, cultural technology, and so on. On the other hand, they also wanted to better understand their allies’ strength. This also meant that the Sea Clan needed to first help the Humans solve the problem of the Demon Fiend siege on the Yanjing Assembly Site.

...

Tang Haofei and the Sea King’s discussion regarding the alliance went very smoothly. The Human side, while not exactly desperate, considered the Sea Clan’s support crucial for Yanjing. For the Sea Clan, it was even simpler: the Sea King Tribe had already firmly secured their position in the sea. At least within their sphere of influence, the Demon Tribe couldn’t cause any significant trouble. Their main task now was to continue expanding their territory—a relatively simple feat for the Sea King Tribe, who naturally held sway over sea beasts. Beyond that, there were no pressing matters. The Sea Tribe Legion was idle anyway, so they might as well dispatch some amphibious Sea Clan members to the surface to defeat some Demon Fiends.

Tang Haofei and the Sea King hit it off immediately. In just an hour, the Sea King had agreed to send troops to the surface, but assembling the army would take some time.

After roughly calculating the necessary sea beast forces, the Sea King gave his answer: ”Half a month.”

...

After finalizing the cooperation plan and the timeline for deploying troops to the surface with the Sea King, Tang Haofei instructed Walter to go to the shallow sea area and update Lin Haifeng.

With the help of sea beasts, Walter made the round trip quickly. He relayed Tang Haofei’s message and brought back news about the recent situation in Yanjing. Overall, with Wen Yu stationed there, the Yanjing Assembly Site hadn’t encountered any major issues; the situation was completely under control.

It seems Wen Yu is quite capable indeed, Tang Haofei thought.

Then, he was suddenly reminded of the unknown scene he had witnessed in the Magma Sea.

A faint chill crept into Tang Haofei’s heart... For some reason, that scene, Wen Yu’s words, and Wen Yu’s stance from that time constantly replayed in Tang Haofei’s mind, impossible to dismiss.

...

POP...

A sound like a bursting bubble echoed.

Outside the northern city wall of the Yanjing Assembly Site, a huge, deep-black barrier shattered instantly, unleashing a thick black fog and a torrent of emerald-green vines. A black shadow then slowly materialized from the darkness.

”The Negative Energy Field has been breached. You handle the cleanup,” Wen Yu said to Ray, who was on the distant city wall, as his own body rapidly solidified.

Ray waved his hand lightly. Two figures instantly shot out from behind him, leaping down the city wall to ruthlessly eliminate the remaining Demon Fiends below.

Watching Lan Bo and Dugu Jian, Wen Yu then glanced at the Demon Fiends already regrouping in the distance. He slowly exhaled, easing the minor injuries he had sustained while breaking the barrier known as the ”Negative Energy Field.”

...

Truth be told, Wen Yu had ultimately underestimated the ”workload” of this task.

In the ten-odd days since Tang Haofei’s departure, nothing unexpected had happened initially. However, the Demon Tribe, likely having learned of Tang Haofei’s absence, launched a tentative, powerful assault by their experts against the Yanjing Assembly Site.

The first was an extraordinarily powerful demon spawn. Although it hadn’t broken its limits, few in the entire Yanjing Assembly Site could contend with it, perhaps aside from Ray, Marcus, and Qin Tian.

Moreover, this demon spawn attacked the Eastern City Wall, where the War Operations Command Center was located!

Wen Yu, who was on the city wall Absorbing the Demon Fiend’s Flesh and Blood, decisively eliminated that demon spawn. However, this only further confirmed to the Demon Tribe that Tang Haofei was indeed not at the Yanjing Assembly Site.

The intensity of subsequent attacks escalated significantly. Tactics like the Purple Light Spawn and Grow Barrier, the Demon Power Cannon, top-tier demon spawns, and the just-encountered Negative Energy Field were deployed one after another, placing even Wen Yu under immense pressure.

...

The emerald-green vines slowly moved into Wen Yu’s body. Sensing his physical attributes now approaching 8,000 points, Wen Yu let out a satisfied sigh.

That last fight was exhilarating...

Ray, standing nearby, observed Wen Yu’s expression, which seemed as if he had just limbered up. A faint smile touched Ray’s lips, but hidden deep in his eyes was an unparalleled gravity.

Wen Yu had underestimated the Demon Tribe’s offensive strength. But then again, hadn’t Ray also underestimated Wen Yu...? Considering the combined strength Wen Yu and his soul pet currently displayed, it was already comparable to Tang Haofei’s strength when he had just left the Yanjing Assembly Site. Furthermore, Wen Yu’s Limit Breaking Abilities surpassed Tang Haofei’s. This meant Wen Yu possessed even greater growth potential despite the Level Lock. For Ray, who still hadn’t fully adapted to his Human Race identity, this was hardly good news...

...

Casually taking the dry towel Ray handed him, Wen Yu wiped the ice shards from his hair and asked, ”Have the Demon Tribe launched any powerful attacks on the other walls?”

By ”powerful,” Wen Yu meant attacks that even Marcus and Qin Tian couldn’t handle.

Ray slowly shook his head. ”Lately, the Demon Tribe’s assaults have become increasingly slow. They’ve likely noticed the significant increase in Your Excellency’s strength. Their attack intensity is waning, and they’re even sending fewer cannon fodder.”

The decrease in cannon fodder was to be expected. After fighting for so long, if the Demon Tribe hadn’t realized Wen Yu could draw strength by Absorbing Demon Flesh, they might as well give up on invading other worlds.

”I suspect,” Ray continued, ”that the Demon Tribe is either planning a retreat or preparing for a major operation soon.”

Hearing Ray’s assessment, Wen Yu nodded and then chuckled. ”A major operation? The bigger, the better. I still feel like I haven’t killed enough Demon Fiends...”

Seeing the genuine eagerness in Wen Yu’s eyes, a flicker of helplessness crossed Ray’s.

After spending ten-odd days together, Ray had come to understand Wen Yu’s temperament. This guy wasn’t afraid of the Yanjing Assembly Site being destroyed at all; he was just dashing around the four city walls to enhance his own strength...

”Well, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head back to the Eastern City Wall,” Wen Yu said, bidding Ray farewell and turning to leave.

”Wait, Your Excellency,” Ray called out. ”It seems Commander Lin is looking for you.”
