Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

The army Lin Haifeng dispatched to welcome the Sea King extended all the way from the gate of the Yanjing Assembly Site to Bohai Bay. Such a grand display served two purposes: firstly, to show the importance Yanjing placed on the Sea Clan, and secondly, to demonstrate Yanjing’s strength to the Sea Clan. Of course, these were merely for show—things that were both emotionally and logically necessary.

Fang Bai, an official of the welcoming party, stood quietly by the sea. He felt an unprecedented sense of calm despite the gravity of the event. Although he was not privy to Lin Haifeng’s entire plan, he had a certain understanding of Lin Haifeng’s tactics. If Lin Haifeng was confident about the control plan for the Sea King, it indicated a high probability of the plan’s success. Of course, he was acutely aware of his own position in all of this. He was just a spectator, a beneficiary of the plan’s success; he didn’t need to do anything else.

He gazed out at the distant sea until a creature resembling an island began to slowly swim towards him. It was then that Fang Bai took a deep breath and ordered, ”Fire the ceremonial cannons!”

BOOM!

BOOM!

BOOM!

Cannonballs, fired as though they cost nothing, shot from the muzzles over the heads of the guard of honor. Though these specially modified projectiles were largely harmless, their sound was deafening, echoing across heaven and earth.

For a moment, the ordinarily quiet Bohai Bay seemed as lively as a New Year celebration.

”This is your Human ’cannon salute’ and welcoming ceremony?”

Upon hearing the Sea King’s question, Tang Haofei nodded in response.

With Tang Haofei’s superior eyesight, he naturally saw much further than Fang Bai. Although the Sea King was not of a Divine Beast species, his strength was still quite impressive. At least, Tang Haofei surmised, the Sea King’s power could be comparable to that of Qin Tian and Walter. He was no Divine Beast, yet stronger than the common ones! Therefore, the Sea King had a clear view of the explosions from the ceremonial cannonballs in the distance.

”Have you also learned about these things?”

The Sea King nodded slightly.

”Of course, we have studied your Human civilization. Although it is not entirely suitable for our Sea Clan, borrowing existing things is always more effective than blindly forging our own path!”

”So, that’s the principle of imitation,” Tang Haofei joked, not expecting the Sea King to express such strong agreement.

”Imitation is the first step in learning advanced things. First imitate, then surpass—that’s the shortcut!”

When Fang Bai saw the entourage accompanying the Sea King as he landed, his heart sank slightly. Their strength was somewhat beyond his expectations.

Aside from the Sea King himself, there were ten clansmen with him, three of whom radiated an aura that made even Fang Bai shudder. These ten members of the Sea King Tribe were all at Peak Level 5, and three of them were Divine Beasts.

Such power wouldn’t appear significant before the might of the entire Yanjing Assembly Site, Fang Bai thought. But with the added support of the amphibious army behind the Sea King, an inexplicable unease crept into him. With such military strength and level, they were probably strong enough to openly wage war against the Yanjing Assembly Site.

Perhaps noticing Fang Bai’s expression, Tang Haofei remarked, partly as a reminder, ”Honorable Sea King, Yanjing has prepared a camping site for the Sea Clan within Tianjin City. Do you have any objections?”

The Sea King nonchalantly waved his hand. ”Just follow your arrangements. My ten clansmen and I will suffice for the visit to Yanjing!”

The Sea King’s own strength, along with his seven Peak Level 5 clansmen and three clansmen who were Divine Beasts, was already overkill for a mere ’alliance.’ Presumably, after witnessing the military’s welcoming ceremony with cannon salutes in Bohai Bay, the Sea King was showing appropriate respect for the alliance ceremony—it was just an alliance, after all. There was no need to bring too many troops into Yanjing and make it seem like a declaration of war.

The two parties reached an ’amicable’ consensus. And though Fang Bai was still unsure if Tang Haofei was on his side, the current arrangement had already been solidified by the Sea King and Tang Haofei. Fang Bai, having no authority to say otherwise, promptly led the Sea Clan and the army towards Yanjing.

KNOCK. KNOCK, KNOCK. Three sharp knocks sounded at the door.

”Please, come in,” Wen Yu called out towards the door, lounging on the sofa and teasing the dozy Cyclops on his belly.

CREAK. Yang Hong entered, his gaze sweeping over Star and Victor, who were scampering around the living room, before landing on Wen Yu, sprawled comically on the sofa. Yang Hong then spoke unhurriedly, ”Boss, the Sea King has arrived in Yanjing.”

Wen Yu nodded expressionlessly and casually reminded him, ”Don’t get involved in that commotion.”

”Boss, aren’t you curious about the Sea King? We haven’t even seen what the Sea King Tribe members look like.”

Seeing Yang Hong’s eager expression, Wen Yu figured he was genuinely curious about the Sea King Tribe. However, considering Yang Hong’s reaction to yesterday’s ”evacuate Yanjing” suggestion, these seemingly pointless questions were probably his way of expressing his attitude and loyalty.

Upon hearing Yang Hong’s words, Wen Yu turned around and stared at him peculiarly. Then, he pointed at the TV in front of the living room.

”Have you never used this thing before?”
