Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Moreover, Lin Haifeng wasn’t just representing himself, but the entire military—Earth’s strongest scientific research group, its current second-strongest combat group, and quite possibly the superpower holding the most trump cards on the planet!

What was even more laughable was that Tang Haofei himself had single-handedly pushed Lin Haifeng to his current prominence!

Therefore, Tang Haofei fell silent.

Lin Haifeng continued, ”Resisting the demon plague is your ideal, the goal you’ve always wanted to achieve, right?”

”If the plan fails, the situations you just mentioned might indeed occur. But as far as I’m concerned, the Sea King Control Plan is imperative. Even if you don’t help me, I will still implement it. In that case, the success rate would be about fifty percent. Trust me, compared to the benefits of success, a fifty percent chance is enough for me to bear the risk of antagonizing the Sea Clan!”

”If the plan succeeds, all is well. If it fails, the Human Race and the Sea Clan will become enemies. This will have a massive impact on your ideal!”

”But if you were to help me...”

”The success rate of this plan would be almost one hundred percent. This probability is the result of detailed calculations by Fran and the military’s think tank.”

”Look, since you can’t stop me from implementing the Sea King Control Plan, why not help me? Why not help me push the plan’s success rate to its absolute maximum?”

”Once the Sea King Control Plan succeeds...”

”The two strongest forces on Earth will be forged into a monolithic bloc. You know full well how beneficial this will be...”

”And if the plan fails, what will you do? Kill me? You won’t kill me. I am the most indispensable person on this Earth. I am of great use to you, to your ideals, to this Earth!”

”Help the Human Race fight the Sea Clan? That’s not what you want.”

”Help the Sea Clan annihilate the Human Race? That’s even more absurd.”

It was like a demon’s whisper, echoing endlessly in Tang Haofei’s ears.

Tang Haofei merely squinted, studying Lin Haifeng’s old face intently.

After a long moment, Tang Haofei spoke, his voice calm.

”Honestly, you’re truly despicable. I’m starting to understand why Wen Yu killed your son.”

Lin Haifeng’s words, seemingly persuasive, boiled down to one thing—a threat!

Lin Haifeng was threatening Tang Haofei with the future of Earth’s two largest military powers, with the very fate of the planet!

And what was truly ludicrous...

Tang Haofei genuinely couldn’t bear the consequences of a war between Humans and the Sea Clan!

Everyone has a lever, a weakness... Just like Qin Shiyuan to Qin Tian, Earth was to Tang Haofei...

”This isn’t despicable; it’s merely strategy,” Lin Haifeng explained with a smile.

A long silence ensued.

Lin Haifeng said no more, leaving Tang Haofei to his thoughts.

Right then, Tang Haofei’s mind was preternaturally clear, thoughts racing as he rapidly weighed the pros and cons.

If I don’t help...

The plan’s success rate is roughly fifty percent...

Setting aside a successful outcome, if it fails, Humans and the Sea Clan will turn on each other...

That scenario was unthinkable; knowing Lin Haifeng’s scheme and methods, I couldn’t possibly stand aside...

If I do help, it could be to aid either the Human Race or the Sea Clan.

If I were to help the Sea Clan, with Lin Haifeng’s plan already in motion, I’m absolutely confident I could make it fail.

And then what?

The alliance would be dead, naturally. The Sea Clan might be enraged, with a slim chance of them declaring war on Yanjing, but most likely they wouldn’t take significant action...

However, relations between the two races would undoubtedly plummet to an icy low. That’s a certainty!

Then, obstructions and underhanded tactics would undoubtedly become rampant...

That’s not what I want...

So...

After deep contemplation, Tang Haofei was left with nothing but a profound sense of bewilderment.

Things had reached this pass.

The choices remaining for him were truly, desperately few.

”You won’t do it, will you? I think you should reconsider your Sea King Control Plan in more detail,” Tang Haofei said, his tone remarkably calm, almost flat. Yet, Lin Haifeng could detect the profound helplessness hidden in its depths.

Lin Haifeng understood Tang Haofei. Thus, Tang Haofei’s thoughts, his judgments, even his choices and the words he would speak—none of it came as a surprise to Lin Haifeng.

”I absolutely will do it!”

”No, you won’t! You wouldn’t risk offending the Sea Clan, offending me. You wouldn’t gamble with the fate of humanity. Am I correct...?”

”I! Absolutely! Will! Do it!!!”

”Fuck you!!! You bastard!!!”

Enraged, Tang Haofei clenched his fists, roaring at Lin Haifeng with all his might.

And that was the only thing Tang Haofei could do.

Faced with Tang Haofei’s furious tirade, Lin Haifeng remained silent.

Tang Haofei has every reason to be angry. Anyone would be furious if they were manipulated and threatened, let alone the Invincible Tang Haofei.

But anger, curses... these are just displays of weakness. What does cursing prove? What can anger prove? Nothing at all!

Lin Haifeng’s ears automatically filtered out Tang Haofei’s incensed words as he casually sipped his hot tea. Hmm, this tea is particularly good today, he thought, watching Tang Haofei, who was visibly struggling to contain his rage.

After a moment, Lin Haifeng chuckled softly.

Every person has weaknesses. And for me, exploiting those human weaknesses has been the greatest advantage that allowed me to climb to my current position!

Even the Invincible Tang Haofei—so what?

Others can’t grasp Tang Haofei’s weakness, but I can. And in my eyes, Tang Haofei’s weakness is glaringly obvious.

Thinking of this, an image of a figure in a black trench coat flashed through Lin Haifeng’s mind. Perhaps only that kind of person, a lone wolf, utterly selfish, would have no true weaknesses...

After a long while, the storm of Tang Haofei’s anger gradually subsided.

Perhaps the outburst had drained his physical strength, or perhaps it was a profound, soul-deep weariness.

Tang Haofei slowly stopped his rant, perhaps not even aware of what he had been saying, and sank onto the sofa.

Silence.

Suppression.

The atmosphere alone made it clear that the conversation had been anything but pleasant.

However, Lin Haifeng didn’t need pleasantries. He only needed results.

And the result was exactly as he had anticipated.

”What are the detailed plans? I mean, assuming I help you...”
