Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 555: Chapter 122 Plan_1

”The Sea Clan’s strength is far greater than that of the Human Race. This time alone, the amphibious members of the Sea Clan aiding us, in terms of overall strength, already exceed the total strength of the Yanjing Assembly Site,” Lin Haifeng stated.

”You should understand how terrifying this gap is...”

Wen Yu was processing it; just the amphibious Sea Clan members providing support possessed strength comparable to the Yanjing Assembly Site. Therefore, the disparity in overall strength between the Human Race and the Sea Clan was truly frightening!

”To Tang Haofei, forming an alliance with the Sea Clan is a good thing, uniting Earth’s forces against the demon plague. But in my eyes, we are completely passive,” Lin Haifeng continued.

”Do you know how the Sea Clan first approached us?”

Wen Yu shook his head, indicating he didn’t know.

”A massive tsunami swept across the Demon Capital Assembly Site back then,” Lin Haifeng explained. ”The damage wasn’t huge, and it indirectly resolved the Demon Capital Assembly Site’s predicament of being surrounded by Demon Fiends. However, quite a few people died in the tsunami...

”In my view, that was a show of force, a sort of semi-forced alliance.

”Aligning with the Sea Clan is essentially like inviting a wolf into our house...”

”You cannot deny the benefits of allying with the Sea Clan,” Wen Yu interjected dryly, thus participating in ”this discussion.”

Frankly, Wen Yu was having a hard time following Lin Haifeng’s train of thought. It seemed... Old Lin... wanted him to scheme against the Sea Clan... and maybe even Tang Haofei...

”Of course, I don’t deny the benefits of allying with the Sea Clan.” Lin Haifeng shook his head, responding to Wen Yu while continuing to express his unilateral opinion. ”Although the intelligence Tang Haofei sent back indicates that most of the Sea Clan haven’t evolved the ability to survive on land, no one can guarantee they aren’t deceiving Tang Haofei, or that they won’t evolve this ability in the future. Besides, we Humans all know—occupying larger territories is an instinct embedded in our biological genes!”

Wen Yu had no response...

”In the short term, allying with the Sea Clan indeed has many benefits. At least for a brief period, on Cathay’s soil, the demon plague will not be a significant threat. However, my ultimate goal isn’t just survival. Our ultimate goal is to repel the Demon Tribe, break free from the Dominator’s control, reclaim our lost lands, and re-establish order!

”So, what happens after we, in alliance with the Sea Clan, or even united with the All Races, defeat the Demon Tribe, or even defeat the Dominator? A civil war will erupt on Earth. Considering the current balance of power and war potential, the Sea Clan would undoubtedly be the victor...”

At this point, Lin Haifeng paused.

”In my view, for the Human Race, whether we are wiped out sooner or later, whether we perish at the hands of the Demon Tribe or the Sea Clan, makes no difference...”

To be wiped out by the Demon Tribe... or by the Sea Clan... no difference...

Wen Yu seriously contemplated the meaning behind these words. After a long moment, he slowly nodded.

It was like a professionist dying at the hands of the Demon Tribe versus dying at the hands of mutant beasts. If you’re dead, what’s the point of discussing who killed you or where you died?

Wen Yu had to admit he agreed with Lin Haifeng’s theory...

However... agreement was one thing, but taking action was another. Wen Yu was not some naive youth who would throw his life away and spill his blood for the ”greater good of the Human Race” based on a few words from Lin Haifeng.

”Let’s not rush to discuss these things. What exactly do you want me to do?”

Principles were things everyone could talk about, but in Wen Yu’s eyes, so-called principles and righteousness were the most useless things. Talk without action was just empty words. When it came to actually doing something... then principles and righteousness were irrelevant. Wen Yu was only interested in the balance of risks and rewards.

Hearing Wen Yu’s question, Lin Haifeng sipped his tea, leaned back in his chair, and sized Wen Yu up for a while before finally speaking.

”Let me explain my plan to you from the beginning.

”I can’t make a move against Tang Haofei, and I don’t intend to target the Sea Clan either. In my opinion, the Human Race’s current situation is like walking a tightrope—caught between the demon plague on one side and the Sea Clan on the other. We must balance the relationships between all parties.

”Unilaterally tearing up our alliance with the Sea Clan offers us no benefits. I pondered this plan all night and realized the key lies with the Sea Clan’s leader—the Sea King!

”The Sea Clan’s societal structure is a blend of slavery and absolute monarchy. For the entire Sea Clan, the Sea King Tribe is the undisputed ruler—they are born with an inherent ability to intimidate sea beasts. And for the Sea King Tribe, the Sea King is their linchpin. This means if we can control the Sea King, or at least influence his decisions to some extent, we would effectively control all or part of the Sea Clan’s power!

”Moreover, the Sea King isn’t a divine beast. His personal strength is likely not that formidable—and by ’not formidable,’ I mean he can’t reach your or Tang Haofei’s level. Coincidentally, I possess an item capable of influencing the thoughts of ordinary creatures of a comparable level.”

”Are you asking me to assassinate the Sea King?” Wen Yu asked.

Lin Haifeng shook his head. ”Not assassination, merely planting this item on him...”

”That’s impossible. I can’t exert much of my combat power in the deep sea. Even with items that repel water, I couldn’t approach the Sea King undetected.”

Wen Yu knew his own limitations; the overt and covert defensive measures around the Sea King would undoubtedly be extensive.

Hearing Wen Yu’s concerns, Lin Haifeng smiled faintly. ”You don’t need to go into the deep ocean. Once the Demon Fiends around the Yanjing Assembly Site are eliminated, the Sea King will visit the Yanjing Assembly Site as a guest and formally establish an alliance with the Human Race. You can act then.”

Under everyone’s gaze... attempt to assassinate the Sea King... Wen Yu finally understood why Lin Haifeng had sought him out. It was because he had no ties to the military!

”And then?” Wen Yu drawled. ”The military will announce the incident was solely the action of Sequence Number 2. For the sake of friendly relations between the Human Race and the Sea Clan, the military and the Sea Clan will jointly issue a warrant for Sequence Number 2—a hunt to the death. Then I’ll become a globally wanted fugitive, is that it?”

Hearing Wen Yu’s sarcasm, Lin Haifeng nodded lightly. ”You’ve become much smarter. That’s indeed how it must be done. The alliance must continue, and the Sea King must be influenced and controlled. I will compensate you for your sacrifice with items and skill scrolls. For you, the worst outcome would be an inability to enter Yanjing and the Eternal Sky City. Other than that, it won’t affect you much. As long as the Sea King isn’t dead, Tang Haofei won’t risk his life to hunt you down. Besides, your current strength isn’t much different from Tang Haofei’s.” (Lin Haifeng was unaware of Tang Haofei’s recent breakthrough in the Magma Sea.) ”As for other pursuers, do you even care?”

”I don’t,” Wen Yu replied.

”So, isn’t that settled?” Lin Haifeng concluded.

Wen Yu fell into a contemplative silence after hearing Lin Haifeng’s proposal.
