Naruto: Reborn as Konoha's Idol

Chapter 18: Chapter 18 Kano was already feeling dizzy from listening.

”Also, I see that your Shadow Deer Technique doesn’t seem to just extract deer shadows; it should be able to extract human shadows too. If not used carefully, it could become a Forbidden Jutsu. However, I’ve tried it, and the difficulty of extracting a human shadow is quite high. I couldn’t even succeed with one that just died. The difficulty of this Ninjutsu is truly a bit high.”

No way? Where did you get a freshly dead person? You didn’t just kill someone, did you? Thinking about it, her dad was a high-ranking official in Konoha; finding a sacrificial lamb to kill probably wasn’t that hard.

”I think we should limit it so that human shadows can’t be extracted, or at least restrict it for other clan members. But instead of adding restrictions that increase learning difficulty, it’s better to add a framework to reduce it. For example, construct a ’deer framework’ so it can only extract deer shadows. For our clansmen, deer shadows are very easy to obtain. Try changing this part.”

”Ah, this...”

Kano was already feeling dizzy from listening.

”Furthermore, in your case, after how much time following death is it no longer possible to extract a shadow?”

”About 48 hours.”

”Hmm, I’ve tried, and it’s hard to extract a shadow after more than 24 hours. What’s the maximum number of shadows you can store?”

”It’s 15.”

”I can store five, and the earliest one has already faded a bit,” Shikaku summoned a Shadow Deer that looked somewhat gray. ”I don’t know about others yet, but I at least can’t reach the limit of 15. Instead of setting such a high limit, it’s better to lower it to make it easier to learn.”

”Aba aba...”

”Or there’s another usage. Sensing, controlling, suppressing, commanding, autonomous action... all these combined consume too much Chakra. If you remove all of them, although it would make the shadows uncontrollable monsters that only fight by instinct, the Chakra consumption would be low and the success rate high. On a battlefield, it could be used for large-scale troop production. Although it’s an indiscriminate attack, it has significant strategic value...”

Listening to Shikaku’s non-stop talking and watching him scribble changes on a draft of the technique formula, Kano’s head was buzzing.

It was like a university math professor explaining a super difficult problem to you in primary school, using the most optimal solution and in great detail. You understood it and then explained the problem to a top student.

Then the top student inferred more from it and, in turn, explained to you how to do the problem using high school methods, middle school methods, and primary school methods. How to change the problem so a primary schooler could do it. Another way the problem could be presented. The practical applications of the problem.

Kano’s little head couldn’t understand so many things yet.

After all, a lot of this knowledge isn’t something a Genin can learn.

”Alright, stop researching Ninjutsu and eat first.”

Fortunately, Yoshino, who had finished tidying up, came to the rescue and pulled Kano out of the academic exchange with her father.

”If you don’t mind, I’ll modify your technique. I probably won’t finish in a short time; many parts still need experimentation. I’ll show it to you once I’m done. Let’s eat. Oh, I almost forgot, this is for you.”

A scroll was tossed over.

”The custom instrument you ordered, and the Genjutsu you wanted. I couldn’t find any music-based Genjutsu; I’ll ask Kurenai Yuhi if she has any later. For now, just make do with this Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique.”

”Dad, I want a custom Ninja tool too.”

”Get lost.”

Shikamaru suddenly felt like he wasn’t their biological son.
