Chapter 325: Chapter 324: Teaming Up Purely By Luck

Tower of Heaven.

Sitting in his chair, Fang Zheng gazed at the bustling scene outside and couldn’t help but drift into a trance. These ten days had been neither long nor short for him, yet they proved quite fruitful.

The main reason Fang Zheng had sought out Rex was to resolve two of his own issues.

First, he hoped to find a method to address the fusion problem between the Dragon’s Bloodline in his body and the Prophecy Spell.

Second, he wanted to find the stage for breaking through to the Legendary Domain.

The first issue was relatively easy for Rex to resolve, as some Magicians within the Tower of Heaven inherently possessed Dragon’s Bloodline, encountering the same problems as Fang Zheng. Therefore, Rex had some insights into this issue, and with his guidance, Fang Zheng gradually learned how to make use of the resonance between his Dragon’s Bloodline and spells when casting them.

It had been said before that humans are inherently weak, necessitating the creation of complex Magic Incantations to delve into the Magic Ring and activate its power. It’s akin to a delicate instrument requiring numerous gears, belts, and levers working in unison to achieve its purpose. But the power of the Dragon is much stronger, allowing for more direct actions.

For Magicians with the Dragon’s Bloodline, their task was to explore the power within their lineage and fuse it with spells to create their unique magic—since the Dragon’s Bloodline contains inherited knowledge, Fang Zheng could rely on this “automatic compilation system” to “reanalyze and compile” the entire spell, thereby achieving the desired effect.

It must be said, the power of the Dragon’s Bloodline is formidable, and not something to be trifled with.

However, the second issue proved to be quite a headache for Fang Zheng.

Fang Zheng could feel that his power, in terms of “quantity,” should have already satisfied the conditions for advancing to the Legendary rank, but for some reason, he was completely unable to transform “quantity” into “quality” and progress further. Rex couldn’t offer any advice on this matter, as he hadn’t advanced to Legendary himself. It wasn’t something that could be resolved simply by reaching a certain level, as the Legendary rank not only demands level and strength but also implies that sheer power isn’t the only determinant for becoming a Legendary Powerhouse.

Otherwise, the continent would be teeming with legendary individuals emerging left and right.

Nevertheless, Rex promised Fang Zheng that after the assessment ended, he would take him to meet someone who might help Fang Zheng find the answer to his quandary.

For now, Fang Zheng was waiting in the Tower of Heaven for the assessment to begin.

However, upon learning about the content of the assessment from the attendants here, Fang Zheng was somewhat speechless.

The entire graduation assessment consisted of five processes.

Firstly, internal selections must be made within each faction to pick out “qualified” participants, weeding out those who were there just to fish in troubled waters or those who lacked the strength to partake in the assessment.

Subsequently, these qualified participants could form teams of five to eight members, without restrictions on organizational affiliation—although in practice, members from the Kingdom of the Holy Church’s “Sanctuary of Reflection” and the Magitech Nation’s “Tower of Heaven” would typically team up, while competitors from the Kingdom of Flame’s “Fire Dragon Brigade” and Land of Wealth’s “Libra Chamber” would pair off. This had basically become an unwritten rule.

After team formation, the competitors had to set their team name and participant number, then report it to the Order Alliance. Once verified, they would move on to the next stage.

That is the stage where Fang Zheng is at.

Selecting external assistants.

Just like the “Tower of Heaven” uses this opportunity to scrutinize outside Mages seeking to join them, the other three factions also utilize the event to recruit new talent. Each faction, however, has its focus: for instance, the “Tower of Heaven” only selects Mages, whereas the “Sanctuary of Reflection” favors Paladins and Clerics. The “Fire Dragon Brigade” tends to champion warrior adventurers, and as for the “Libra Chamber”… well, it is said they welcome all comers, as long as one meets their standards.

Of course, what the Libra Chamber’s standards are, only they know.

These outsiders are also assigned numbers and then distributed among the various factions’ quarters to await the arrival of their peers.

Of course, this depends on the situation, such as teams lacking Mages—they would come to the Tower of Heaven to select candidates.

But for teams in need of warriors or Clerics, they would have to choose from the ranks of the “Fire Dragon Brigade” or the “Sanctuary of Reflection.”

Of course, due to that unwritten rule, it’s generally true that “Sanctuary of Reflection” and “Tower of Heaven” trialists wouldn’t choose people from “Fire Dragon Brigade” and “Libra Chamber,” and vice versa.

After all, those of different paths do not plan together.

Those who come here are randomly assigned an outsider number by luck, and then they find that outsider to undergo the subsequent trials together.

This is the fourth step—the content of the assessment.

Like the third step, the content of the assessment is also random. The team leader must draw lots to select one task as the examination question. Then, as long as they can complete this assessment, they can move on to the fifth part—”graduation.”

“Ding-dong.”

As Fang Zheng was pondering, suddenly the bell above the door jingled, and upon hearing the sound, he raised his head and exchanged a glance with Nymph.

Alright, the time for sincerity has come.

“Number 9, huh… this number isn’t too bad,” he said.

Looking at the number in his hand, Fang Zheng yawned, then boredly stood in a corner watching the others. Around thirty mages had gathered here, evident from their appearances—nearly every mage was wearing a mage robe, holding a magic wand. There were men and women, young and old, some nervous and uneasy, others meditating with eyes closed, and still others looking around curiously like Fang Zheng. Naturally, Fang Zheng attracted their attention.

After all, in this backstage area, while everyone else was dressed in mage robes and wielding magic wands, conspicuous to all as a mage, Fang Zheng was simply wearing his formal wear and cloak transformed from dragon scales and chitinous shell—dressed like a noble. Not to mention the quiet Nymph standing behind him like a little maid. No matter how one looked, he seemed more like a young noble than a mage here for selection.

Perhaps he is a relation of the Tower of Heaven, here to enjoy the spectacle?

No wonder the mages would think so. Indeed, while mages consider themselves above others, they’re not without connections to the nobility. The ones they disdain are those new-rich from the Land of Wealth who forget their own surnames once wealthy, not the truly well-founded and historic nobility. If Fang Zheng were a noble with deep ties to the Tower of Heaven and interested in this ceremony, it wouldn’t be surprising for him to come watch.

“Next… number 12!”

At the call from above, one of the mages backstage stood up, walked up silently, and soon, the backstage crowd heard an uproar.

“Good heavens, isn’t that ‘Wind’s Messenger’? He’s joined the White Tower?”

“That team is so lucky… with him, the task will surely be completed in no time!”

So that’s what it was.

Standing silently backstage, listening to the commotion from the front, Fang Zheng finally understood what this process was like. In simple terms, it was like a live-streamed card draw: the teams were responsible for “drawing the card,” and whether one got an R or a UR was entirely up to luck. If you drew a strong card, of course, you’d be envied, and if not… well, that was that.

It seemed that even this step at the Tower of Heaven was meant to boost one’s fame. Otherwise, there was no need to do this so publicly.

As expected, one after another mage was called out, and most of them were recognized by the people. It appeared the White Tower’s screening was quite stringent, at least in terms of fame; most of the support casters here quite qualified in that respect.

But whether it was bad luck or too much good luck, Fang Zheng simply hadn’t been called.

Until at last, he was the only person left backstage…

“Number 9.”

At that moment, the call for Fang Zheng’s number finally rang out. Straightening his clothes, Fang Zheng then walked out with long strides.
