Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 311: Chapter 310: Another World Destroyed

Fang Zheng discovered his luck seemed to be quite bad.

Ever since he had the Dimensional Codex and had been traveling through dimensions, almost every world presented its variety of problems, but even so, the current world still shocked him.

This was a world that had been destroyed.

“Okay, who can tell me what happened here?”

Fang Zheng mumbled to himself while stretching out his claw to flip through the ruins of the dilapidated house before him. What caught his eye was a city turned to ash, reduced to nothing but dilapidated ruins. From the remains of skyscrapers and burnt-out car shells on the roads, Fang Zheng could roughly guess that this world was supposed to be a modern Earth. However… the Earth before him was even more tragic than if aliens had invaded, and after flying over three cities, all he found were burnt ruins with no survivors—not even a single living creature, aside from fish in the rivers.

This fucking sucks. What’s the point of training?

If Fang Zheng were in human form right now, he would have flipped the table. At least in Black Soul, he could kill some zombies, but what the hell is this world? Is it expecting him to do a Bear Grylls-style survival?

“Roar——!”

Just then, Fang Zheng suddenly heard a fierce roar; he quickly looked up toward the direction of the sound. The sky was overcast with clouds, hiding everything from view. But Fang Zheng could feel something was weaving through the clouds…

“Huff!”

The next moment, Fang Zheng saw a dark figure burst out of the clouds, opening its gaping maw and diving toward him.

It had a body covered in scales, its front claws spread open, with wing membranes like those of a bat, and a long tail flickering incessantly with the creature’s motions.

Was that… a dragon?

“Roar!!”

Faced with an astounded Fang Zheng, the red dragon roared again, opening its mouth, and the next moment, Fang Zheng saw flames shoot out from the Fire Dragon’s mouth, rushing towards him.

Hey! You’re really asking for it, aren’t you? You dare bite me?!

Realizing that the Fire Dragon intended to attack him, Fang Zheng was instantly annoyed. He too opened his mouth wide and let out a powerful roar at the dragon.

“————!”

The next moment, an invisible current of the Power of Time burst from Fang Zheng’s mouth, whooshing into the sky. Immediately after, the Fire Dragon’s flames seemed to rewind like a film, being sucked back into its mouth. The Fire Dragon, apparently not expecting its own fire to return, was taken aback and started to choke. Its body trembled violently, and then it lost balance and crashed onto the ground.

“I mean, what the hell is actually going on here?”

Looking at the downed flame-spewing entity, Fang Zheng was completely baffled. This place seemed like modern-day Earth in every way, but where did a fire-breathing dragon come from? Was this science fiction or fantasy? There should be some hint. And, what’s with this world looking as if humanity is extinct? Does such a world really exist? And if it does, who is the “main character” here? Surely it can’t be a dragon.

While pondering, Fang Zheng closely observed the Fire Dragon before him and quickly noticed the differences between them.

Although it looked like a dragon, its body structure vastly differed from Fang Zheng’s. Despite the similar appearance, the specific body structures were entirely different. The biggest difference was that Fang Zheng’s wings and front claws were separate: his wings were on his back, capable of folding at his sides like a bird, as well as fully extending. Moreover, his front claws were longer, able to support his body so he could sit upright on the ground.

The dragon before him, however, had its wings completely connected to its front claws, more like a membrane that stretches between the forelimbs and the body, similar to bats or flying squirrels. As a result, this Fire Dragon was unable to stand upright like Fang Zheng and could only move on the ground on all fours like a crawling creature. Furthermore, its forelimbs were puny and seemed more like auxiliary limbs.

“What’s that? Can you understand what I’m saying? Hello? Dumb pig? Moshi moshi? Konnichiwa?”

Fang Zheng shook his head curiously, trying to communicate with the fire dragon. But to his disappointment, the Fire Dragon seemed unable to comprehend his speech and only raised its head to let out an angry roar, as though it were a wild beast.

“`

“Ah… so, the dragons here aren’t high-intelligence creatures, are they?”

Unable to obtain any response from the other party, Fang Zheng felt bored. According to the power he had acquired from the Time Dragon bloodline, he should have been able to understand all Dragon Race languages and communicate with them. However, while interacting with this Fire Dragon, Fang Zheng could only sense wildness and chaos in the creature’s spirit. This indicated that, based on the knowledge of the Dragon Race, the Fire Dragon before him was merely a simple beast.

“Ah…”

After learning the truth, Fang Zheng felt bored and lost interest in a simple beast. Unable to communicate or interact, and with the other party behaving as if it had rabies, full of aggression, then in that case…

With that thought, Fang Zheng lifted his head and stared at the Fire Dragon, taking a deep breath.

“———————!!”

In the next moment, the Fire Dragon before Fang Zheng suddenly began to change. Its originally robust and brawny body started to become frail. Its struggles also gradually ceased. The Power of Time crazily drained from its body. In just a brief moment, the Fire Dragon stopped struggling, its eyes lost their shine, and its skin began to decay on its body, turning to dust, and then—became a pile of white bones.

“Burp…”

Fang Zheng shook his head and let out a belch.

“A Fire Dragon can absorb about fifty years of time… Not a bad deal.”

This was the first time using “Breath of Plunder,” and Fang Zheng had begun to understand his body, and he also discovered a problem. That is, the quality of the time he plundered with Breath of Plunder mattered.

If time were compared to fruit, then the “fifty years” of time that Fang Zheng consumed had the first thirty years tasting the best, mature and bursting with juice. However, the last twenty years had the taste of fruit starting to rot and spoil. Especially after Fang Zheng completely wiped out the Fire Dragon’s Health Points, that last part made him feel as if he forcefully swallowed both the ripe and the rotten parts of a banana, which was very uncomfortable.

“Looks like I still need to train a bit more.”

Fang Zheng narrowed his eyes, feeling the Power of Time within his body, and sure enough, the last part he consumed didn’t seem to digest very well.

But… surely a Time Dragon couldn’t get food poisoning, right?

Looking at the remains of the Fire Dragon before him, Fang Zheng fell into deep contemplation.

First of all, from the surface, it seemed that human civilization on this Earth had been destroyed, at least that’s how it appeared from this Fire Dragon. Apart from its intimidating size, in Fang Zheng’s view, it was just an oversized flying lizard, nowhere near comparable to the true Dragon Race.

You should know, in the Main World, not just any creature can be casually called a “dragon,” even those Sub-dragon species with some sort of Special Ability cannot be called dragons. A true Giant Dragon must possess superior intelligence, noble blood, and tremendous power—at least, you must be able to unleash Dragon Might.

For a dragon, the ability to release Dragon Might is the key to distinguishing the real from the fake. True Dragon Might can directly and unreasonably suppress those lower-level creatures on various levels. This means that without protection from an equal or higher Dragon Blood, or without equipment that can immunize against or defend from mental and soul attacks, no matter how powerful you are, you must kneel before a Giant Dragon.

Of course, as far as Fang Zheng was concerned, this was like the difference between a player and a GM. Got the first kill on a rare elite? Soloing a world boss? Heh, sorry, when a GM wants to ban your account, will you kneel or not?

Privilege dogs are the strongest.

Originally, when facing the Fire Dragon, Fang Zheng only needed to release Dragon Might, and the other party would immediately become submissive as a grandson. But just to test his own power, Fang Zheng chose another method, and now it seemed…

“Alright, a world that has already been destroyed, it is unknown whether humans still exist, and large, fire-breathing Fire Dragons flying everywhere… In that case…”

Muttering to himself, Fang Zheng flapped his wings and flew into the sky.

“First things first, let’s have a good meal!”
