Chapter 324: Chapter 323 Trial of the Holy White

Chapter 324: Chapter 323 Trial of the Holy White

“Although I guessed you’d definitely stir up trouble this time, I didn’t expect you to cause such a big scene,”

Rex sat in the chair, smiling as he watched Fang Zheng.

“Even daring to provoke the Castina Family… Not bad, kid! You and our White Tower really hit it off, huh!”

“Does the White Tower have a feud with the Castina Family?”

“Of course, it goes without saying. The biggest issue we have with the Kingdom of the Holy Church is that bunch of bastards!”

Rex snorted coldly and waved his hand dismissively.

“You remember the incident in the Dark Marsh, right?”

“Of course.”

“Then, you should know that there’s a group inside the Kingdom of the Holy Church that has always been hostile towards us Mages. They believe that knowledge leads to corruption, and that Mages, in pursuit of knowledge and truth, have even abandoned order and morality… Okay, I admit, some Mages are indeed not right in the head, but those are just the minority, right? And those assholes are using this as an excuse to want to station someone in our Tower of Heaven to monitor our research!”

At this point, Rex slammed the table hard.

“Bloody hell! Knowledge leads to corruption? If you ask me, it’s faith that corrupts. At least we solve our own problems in the Tower of Heaven! And what about those damn Holy Knights? Go to hell. The Twilight Legion is still out there on the Chaos Frontier! Why don’t they wipe them out first before coming to us with that talk? A bunch of idiots who’ve read the Holy Scripture until their brains turned to shit, thinking they can monitor our Mage research? Who the hell do they think they are!?”

“So Castina…”

“That’s right, kid, just like you’re thinking, the Castina Family is the ringleader in all this, a bunch of idiots who think because they’re favored by the Goddess of Order, they don’t need brains. They’ve always looked down on Mages, even treating us as potential criminals. I’ve had it with that dumbass. So, I must say, well done! You’ve removed a turd from our path at the White Tower, and I truly appreciate your act of justice!”

So that was it.

Having heard this, Fang Zheng rolled his eyes; he clearly understood Rex’s point. In fact, during the battle in the Dark Marsh, Fang Zheng became aware that the Sanctuary’s views on Mages weren’t very good. Naturally, the Mages wouldn’t just ignore this.

However, since the Magitech Nation and the Kingdom of the Holy Church were allied after all, even if the Mages of the Tower of Heaven were at odds with the Sanctuary, they couldn’t directly act against them. Yet, Fang Zheng not only killed their thorn, Connie, but he also managed to strip that arrogant but stupid Castina of his title and honors as Knight Captain. Even for these inherently stoic Mages, that would be a reason to pop open the champagne.

“Because you did well this time, even those old geezers up there have finally made a decision.”

As he spoke, Rex casually reached into a drawer, grabbed a couple of times, and pulled out a parchment scroll.

“You’ve earned the right to join the Tower of Heaven!”

“That’s really nice.”

If it had been earlier, Fang Zheng might have been surprised, but now, after hearing Rex clarify the whole situation, he immediately understood why he had earned this right. By killing Connie and forcing the Knight Captain to be stripped of his Holy Sword, status, and power, it was as though Fang Zheng had presented a “Letter of Credence” to them. While Fang Zheng had no such intention, since they benefited, the White Tower would certainly not be stingy with their rewards.

“Does that mean I can become an Apprentice of the White Tower now?”

“Apprentice? Don’t joke, kid. I can feel that you’ve already touched upon the Six-Ring Spells, haven’t you? An apprentice? Are you trying to infuriate the other students to death?”

Rex rolled his eyes, then knocked on the table.

“According to the rules of the White Tower, touching upon the Fourth Ring Spells qualifies you to graduate as an Official Mage. Even foreign Mages are not required to start as apprentices if they can reach the standard of the Fifth Ring. That position is reserved for the stars of the future, not for you to bully kids.”

As he said this, Rex tossed a badge over to Fang Zheng.

“Take this badge, and you need to reach the White Tower within ten days to participate in the graduation trial!”

“Graduation trial?”

I haven’t even enrolled yet, what graduation trial am I supposed to take?

“At this time each year, the White Tower evaluates the Mage Apprentices to allow those qualified to participate in the graduation trial.”

Rex continued to explain.

“As I mentioned earlier, even external Mages can join the White Tower if they reach the Fifth Ring standard. Of course, it’s not a free entry. We need these Mages to participate in the graduation trial with the White Tower’s Apprentices. The external Mages must help those Apprentices complete the trial together. Only then can they join the White Tower.”

“You all are quite bold, aren’t you?”

Hearing this, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but comment.

“You actually dare to let foreign mages act together with the apprentices you’ve trained yourselves? Aren’t you afraid that there are cultists or people with ulterior motives among them who might then eliminate your students?”

“Of course, we worry about that, but mages will always encounter all kinds of accidents. If they can’t even save themselves without our protection, then that only proves they’ve learned nothing in the White Tower,”

Rex snorted lightly, showing his lack of concern. However, Fang Zheng also understood his point. Mages are different from paladins; paladins emphasize sacrificing themselves to protect others. But mages always prioritize “safety first”. A mage must ensure that they have a way out before a battle, hence the saying “a mage who’s determined to escape is impossible to kill.”

A competent mage would not let themselves be easily killed.

So, this is also part of the “graduation assessment”.

“Besides, you don’t need to worry because in addition to the mages, we will also invite paladins to take part in the assessment.”

“Oh?”

Upon hearing this, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but be surprised. Seeing his expression, Rex also smiled.

“Surprised? Indeed, our relationship with the Kingdom of the Holy Church isn’t very good, but that’s just some political disputes. There’s no need to let such things affect our lower-level relations. Therefore, in addition to the apprentices from the Tower of Heaven and those foreign mages, the Sanctuary of Reflection also sends those knight apprentices who haven’t graduated yet to participate in the assessment. After all, this is a joint effort by our four countries.”

“I see…”

Only then did Fang Zheng remember, “Tower of Heaven” is the representative organization of the Magitech Nation that belongs to the Order Alliance. While the “Sanctuary of Reflection” is the representative organization of the Kingdom of the Holy Church in the Order Alliance. This means that the representative forces of the four countries are all training their own stars of tomorrow and successors. So that means…

“The organizations from the ‘Kingdom of Flame’ and ‘Land of Wealth’ will also participate?”

“That’s right.”

Rex said, curling his lips.

“Perhaps you already know, but I still want to remind you that although on the surface we are all members of the Order Alliance, our relationship with the Holy Church is still comparatively good. In contrast, those idiots from the Kingdom of Flame and Land of Wealth can’t pee in the same pot as us, so if you encounter their people, you don’t have to care too much about what we think. Just fight with the aim to beat them without killing them, that’s all!”

Actually, I’ve already killed them once before.

Hearing Rex’s words, Fang Zheng shrugged. He hadn’t forgotten that in the Misty Seas, his ship was attacked by the Kingdom of Flame, and then according to Nymph and the others, a legendary powerhouse from the Kingdom of Flame came to cause trouble and was disposed of by Black Katie like disciplining a grandchild.

“Then… at least you should tell us what the representative forces of those two countries are called.”

“The representative from the Kingdom of Flame is the ‘Fire Dragon Brigade’, and from the Land of Wealth, it’s the ‘Libra Chamber’. They are very easy to recognize; you’ll know them at a glance.”

“Libra Chamber? Fire Dragon Brigade?”

“Yes, the Libra Chamber is full of dead fat uglies who think they’re something just because they have money, dumb pigs. As for the Fire Dragon Brigade… rumors have it that the Kingdom of Flame has a deep connection with the Fire Dragon King, so they fight alongside Fire Dragon subspecies. Typically, every year’s rating assessment is the same, our Tower of Heaven and the Sanctuary of Reflection send people to cooperate with each other. On the other side, the Libra Chamber provides various kinds of material support to the Fire Dragon Brigade, and the Fire Dragon Brigade assists the Libra Chamber in completing the tasks together. This is also the way our four countries get along on regular days, so there’s nothing strange about it.”

“Then, what do I get after passing the assessment?”

Fang Zheng took the badge and the parchment scroll, then asked out of curiosity, and Rex spread his hands.

“First, you will be recognized as an official mage of the Tower of Heaven, and, if you wish, you can join the Council based on your achievements. Second, you can build a Mage Tower at a designated location and you will have the authority to accept apprentices… though I see you’re not interested in that. As for other aspects, as long as you don’t betray the Order and can help out when the Tower of Heaven is in trouble, then there shouldn’t be any problems.”

Having said this, Rex let out a breath.

“Alright, I’ve delivered the messages those old immortals trusted me with, but I think… you came to find me for more than just giving a regular update, didn’t you?”

“Of course, mentor.”

Responding to Rex’s question, Fang Zheng nodded.

“In fact, I have some questions that I’d like to ask for advice on…”
