Chapter 315: Chapter 314 This thing is really addictive, huh

“Eliminate the Fire Dragon?”

It had to be admitted, Fang Zheng’s response gave the woman a great shock. She stood there dumbfounded, staring at the giant beast before her, completely at a loss for words.

“But, aren’t you of the same kind?”

“Heh, if apes could rule the world, would you consider yourself of the same kind as them?”

Fang Zheng sneered dismissively, leaving the woman speechless. However, she soon thought of another question.

“But, but why didn’t you appear when humanity faced extinction?”

“Listen carefully, mortal.”

Fang Zheng lifted his head, his gaze cold as he stared at the woman.

“I am Neltharion, the Guardian of the Earth. I protect this land, not you mortals. Your life and death are as insignificant to me as ants. Had these cruel, greedy beasts not sought to destroy everything on this land, I would not have awakened from my millennium of slumber. Do you understand?”

“Whimper…”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s words, the woman bit her lip hard, not knowing what to say. To be honest, she was instinctively very annoyed by the black dragon’s contemptuous tone, but she had no choice but to admit that the black dragon was right; it protected the land, not humanity. He was not a guardian god of humans and naturally had no obligation to act on their requests.

Ah, no, this feeling is too exhilarating, it’s becoming addictive.

Watching the woman before him, Fang Zheng shook his head and snorted coldly.

“All right, now that you’re awake, tell me about the current state of this land. I have only recently awakened myself, and I hope you can provide me with some useful information.”

“This… Of course, that’s no problem.”

Although still somewhat doubtful of Fang Zheng’s words, the woman hesitated for a moment before tentatively sharing information about the current state of the world. Through her narrative, Fang Zheng finally learned the origin of the dragon horde.

According to the woman, these Flying Dragons seemed to have awakened from a cave in Europe initially, and upon awakening, they launched an attack against the world around them. Humanity had tried to eliminate the Fire Dragons with various weapons at first, but as Fang Zheng had observed, not only did the Fire Dragons reproduce quickly and have strong defenses, they were also radiation-resistant. Eventually, even nuclear weapons failed to eradicate the Dragon Horde; instead, they stimulated the dragons to breed even more. Ultimately, humanity lost the war against the Dragon Horde strategy and was forced to seek refuge in ruins, barely clinging to survival.

Furthermore, according to researchers of history, the Fire Dragons had existed on Earth for a very long time, and the dragon-slaying tales of legend were their doing. Moreover, they had destroyed the dinosaurs of the previous era, plunging Earth into a new destruction. After consuming everything they could, the Fire Dragons would go into hibernation, waiting for life to regenerate and proliferate.

That was more than twenty years ago.

Back then, the woman had been just a child, and she was fortunate to have survived the catastrophe. Afterwards, human settlements were almost entirely wiped out, and the few remaining humans hid in caves and fortresses, using some intact communication lines to keep in touch with one another. But now, communications from other regions were growing rarer, clearly indicating that many human enclaves had already been attacked by the Fire Dragons.

“So, where is the largest horde of Fire Dragons?”

“I’ve heard… that the United Kingdom has the largest Dragon Horde because that’s where they first appeared. I just don’t know the exact location… After all, I was only a child then…”

Speaking up to this point, the woman appeared somewhat despondent. The reason she had risked infiltrating the city ruins was to look for usable items, as her settlement was starting to struggle. Although water and food were barely sufficient, other necessities required parts for maintenance and repairs. However, with the world destroyed, production facilities were nonfunctional, so she had taken the risk to search for anything of value.

But even the woman had not expected to find quite a few useful items and became so immersed in scavenging that she lost track of time. By the time she realized it, she had already caught the attention of a Fire Dragon.

Well, scavenging can be addictive.

As a result, she not only lost her horse, but the parts and other items she found were scorched clean, a total loss. Nonetheless, she was alive… and that was a rare stroke of luck.

“Enough, I now understand the state of this world.”

Having received the answers from the woman, Fang Zheng knew what he had to do next.

“Well, as a gesture of thanks, let me take you back to your little settlement. How about that?”

“This…”

Facing Fang Zheng’s offer, the woman was clearly hesitant. Though he seemed to bear no malice and was able to communicate, after all, he was a dragon, a huge black dragon at that. The woman had never heard of “Neltharion,” but since he claimed to be the “Guardian of the Earth,” he must be an extremely powerful being. But… he was still a dragon!

However, the idea of the woman returning on her own was even more impossible—without her horse, it would take a significant amount of time to get back to the settlement alone. Not to mention the danger if Fire Dragons lurked nearby, leaving the woman, without transportation, a perfect prey.

“Then… please, take me to the other side of the mountain. After that, I can make my way back on my own…”

Even though she felt like she was deluding herself, the woman couldn’t help but reluctantly put forth her request. Fang Zheng nodded, then extended his hand and opened it towards the woman.

“Alright, come over on your own.”

“Eh?”

Staring at Fang Zheng’s outspread front claws, the woman hesitated for a moment before glancing at Fang Zheng’s back.

“Can’t I… ride on your back?”

“Who gave you the illusion that you could ride on me? Mortal?”

Fang Zheng let out an annoyed snort. To tell the truth, before he had obtained the giant dragon bloodline, he thought being a dragon knight must be cool. Only after he had obtained the giant dragon bloodline did he realize that for any dragon, being ridden was the ultimate disgrace. Whether as a human or as a dragon, Fang Zheng found no pleasure in being mounted. Even if the other party was a woman, it was the same.

“Would you agree to a monkey asking to ride on your back?”

“…I’m sorry…”

Internally crying out that fairy tales were all lies, the woman warily approached Fang Zheng. As she did, his front claw closed in and scooped her up. Then with a powerful flap of his wings, they took to the sky.

“Aaahh—!!”

Caught in the ferocious storm, the woman couldn’t help but scream, but she soon realized that she hadn’t been crushed into a pulp by the dragon as she had imagined nor was she swallowed whole. Instead, he was carrying her towards the sky.

“Which direction?”

“West… just over that mountain…”

Hearing the woman’s response, Fang Zheng did not say much more. He flapped his wings and swiftly flew towards the west.

What would take humans about half a day to travel was less than a minute’s journey for Fang Zheng. In no time, he was already carrying the little creature and the woman over the mountain range, arriving at the destination in the blink of an eye.

“So, your home is in… oh, it seems I don’t need to ask.”

Fang Zheng was about to inquire, but as he looked ahead, he let out a slight chuckle. Hearing Fang Zheng speak, the woman was taken aback for a moment before she hastily looked ahead. Then, to her shock.

Not far ahead of them, a place resembling an abandoned factory was under attack by a horde of fire dragons. Over a dozen fire dragons were flying in the sky, intermittently spewing flames at the factory below. However, the resistance from below was powerful; it was evident that the people inside had grown accustomed to battling the dragon horde. Fang Zheng could see bullets being fired from the windows, pushing back the fire dragons attempting to swoop down. It looked as if, given enough time, the dragons would have to retreat without success.

Unfortunately, they were not going to last.

The reason was simple.

They were running out of bullets.

“Roar—!!”

Under Fang Zheng’s watchful eye, the windows that had been the most vigorously defended soon fell silent. The fire dragons seemed to realize that their enemies were no longer a threat and began trying to launch another attack on their prey. But just as they were about to stick their heads in the windows, a series of explosive sparks burst out, forcing the fire dragons back. However, they did not seem to be giving up, still encircling the pesky metal husk, apparently not ready to relinquish their catch.

“Please, I beg you to help my companions, Master Neltharion!”

Seeing the scene before her, the woman quickly pleaded. Hearing her request, Fang Zheng pondered for a moment, then nodded.

“No problem, let these crawlers witness the power of the Earth King!”

“Ya—ya—!”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s response, the little fire dragon perched on his back also excitedly cried out—perhaps, in its eyes, these creatures that looked and were colored differently were not of its kind at all. freēwēbnovel.com

No sooner had he spoken than Fang Zheng suddenly flapped his wings and lunged towards the factory!
