Apocalypse: I Built a City of Sin

She was waiting for these old people and these women to stand up with some courage!

She was willing to protect the weak. But if these weak people chose to yield themselves, what obligation did she still have to protect them?

She was a police officer. She had indeed been defending the last thread of justice and morality left in the apocalypse.

But she did not want to be a stupid, ridiculous saint!

She was willing to save other people. But she could not save people who had already given up on themselves!

“These two girls can stay!”

Zhou Zhengyu pointed at two of them, young women who looked about eighteen or nineteen, and said, “These two girls are both pretty good. Keep them as a reward for the brothers!”

Xiao Yi glanced at those two young women. Both of them were wearing matching school uniforms and ponytails. They looked very clean and pretty.

And Xiao Yi also found that these two not only looked good, they actually looked exactly alike!

They were a pair of twin sisters!

Leave aside Scarface and his people. Even Xiao Yi felt a thread of interest move in his chest.

This was a rare pair!

The twin sisters shook and pressed together, heads down, not daring to make any sound.

Not a thread of resistance. Not a thread of protest.

“As for the rest of the women, including Officer Si, if you want to keep staying under our protection, you only have two choices!”

Zhou Zhengyu sneered, held up one finger, and said it loud.

“One. Leave this place right now!”

Zhou Zhengyu held up another finger, his face still full of pride.

“The other. Service my brothers well!”

Finished, Zhou Zhengyu shot Si Ruoqing a provocative look, then swept a vicious gaze around the crowd. “Anyone have an opinion? If you have an opinion, you can stand up now! Today this is a democratic meeting! Anyone can stand up and say what they think!”

Scarface scraped his machete to the side, tipped his head, and stared at the others viciously. The eight men behind him also closed in with cold smiles, showing off the weapons in their hands.

This was silent intimidation!

No one stood up. No one protested. Everyone lowered their heads, humble.

Si Ruoqing looked at everything in front of her in disappointment, closed her eyes, drew a deep breath, and finally could not hold the fury in her chest. She roared low, angry, “I built this shelter! Most of the supplies in here were brought back by me leading you people to find them. What right do you have to drive me out now?”

“The knives in our hands! The fact that most of us agree! Whether it’s power coming from the barrel of a gun or a democratic vote, we can make you leave! Of course! The brothers all admire Officer Si’s character. As long as Officer Si is willing to stay, we brothers are happy to ‘take good care’ of you! Hahahaha!” Scarface burst into crazy laughter.

Si Ruoqing turned to look at the old people and the women who had kept their heads down the whole time and said nothing. Unwilling to let it go, she demanded, “You think I should leave too?”

“Officer Si! You should go!” The old man stood up, pointed at Si Ruoqing, and said, “None of us welcome you!”

“That’s right! Go!” A plump middle-aged woman who looked a little sharp and mean stood up as well. “It’s because of you—always saving extra people—that our supplies ran down so fast! What was in the mall could have let us last much longer! Get out! We don’t welcome you!”

“Yes! Get out! Get the hell out of here!”

“Get out!”

The remaining old people and women chimed in as well.

Si Ruoqing’s face went bloodless. She could not understand it no matter how she thought. People she had saved without caring about her own safety would treat her like this!

Xiao Yi stood to the side and watched this farce with cold eyes. Originally he had already been about to move and destroy all these ugly people.

But when he saw the old people and the women fighting to drive Si Ruoqing away, he instinctively caught a thread of something off.

He wanted to watch a little longer. He wanted to see what this matter would finally turn into.

“Fine! I’ll go!” Si Ruoqing’s hope had burned out.

“Wait! Officer Si! Don’t you love helping people? Take these kids with you too!” A young married woman suddenly stepped out, caught Si Ruoqing, and said, “These kids are a burden on us if they stay here! If you don’t take them, we can only feed them to the zombies!”

Si Ruoqing glanced at the three of them huddled together.

One innocent little girl of only seven or eight. Two twin young women.

Looking at their clear, innocent eyes, Si Ruoqing’s heart still softened.

“All right! I’ll take them!” After Si Ruoqing said it, she spoke to Xiao Yi and the other teammates who had come with her. “Are you coming or not?”

“Hmph! I’d rather die than stay here with this pack of disgusting people!” Xiao Liu, the somewhat chuunibyou hot-tempered girl, snorted coldly and hurried after Si Ruoqing.

The other women on the team snorted coldly as well and strode toward the door behind Si Ruoqing with long steps.

“Good luck.” Xiao Yi looked at Scarface and Zhou Zhengyu with a cold smile and strode after Si Ruoqing as well.
