Apocalypse: I Built a City of Sin

Encouraged by Chen Kun, the survivors began staring greedily at the bag on Xiao Yi’s back.

Whether anyone would rescue them in the future did not matter. Right now, Xiao Yi clearly possessed a large quantity of food and water.

The hope of the army arriving might have been faint, but it was still hope.

What they urgently needed at this moment was inside Xiao Yi’s bag!

“Hand over the food and water if you don’t want to die!”

Chen Kun advanced with two young men carrying javelins, all three glaring at Xiao Yi threateningly.

“And if I refuse?” Xiao Yi asked with a sneer, utterly unconcerned by their threats.

With his current combat ability, even a hundred men like Chen Kun would not frighten him.

His confidence came not only from his enhanced physique, but from the ruthlessness he had forged through repeated brushes with death.

“You’re courting death!”

After being challenged again and again, Chen Kun had reached the limits of his fury. He leveled the wooden pole viciously at Xiao Yi.

No one had ever defied him like this—not once in his entire life. And now the person doing it was Xiao Yi, the penniless nobody he had always despised!

The two lackeys behind him raised their javelins and sneered at Xiao Yi, their eyes full of menace.

“What an ignorant country bumpkin!” Ling Xueya mocked. “Trash from the countryside really is fucking stupid. Don’t you know what you are? How dare you talk back to Young Master Chen! Hand everything over and slap yourself in the face, and we might spare your life!”

“Xiao Yi, don’t reject our kindness!” Du Zhiming adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, puffed out his chest, and reprimanded him with counterfeit righteousness. “We’re asking you to share the food and water for your own good! If you insist on being stubborn and selfish, don’t blame all of us for what happens next!”

“Exactly! Xiao Yi, how can you be so selfish? Do you have no humanity? We’re all classmates. We allowed you inside to shelter from the zombies, so you should share the food you found with everyone!”

“That’s right! A person shouldn’t be so selfish. Hand over the food and water!”

“This is the apocalypse. We should all help one another! How can you keep the food for yourself? As one human being to another, I advise you to show some kindness!”

“Know your place, Xiao Yi. Hand it over. Young Master Chen is giving you the dignity of surrendering it willingly. Don’t be ungrateful. Otherwise, you’ll lose the supplies and get beaten as well.”

Several students hiding behind Chen Kun puffed out their chests and lectured Xiao Yi, borrowing his power to bolster their courage. Their mouths overflowed with morality and righteous indignation.

Only Tang Ningning stood behind Xiao Yi and quietly protested in anger. “Why didn’t any of you call yourselves selfish when you drove Xiao Yi outside? He nearly died finding this food. Why should he surrender it for you to enjoy? You people are shameless!”

“Enough bullshit! If you want the food and water in my bag, come take it yourselves!”

The survivors’ nauseating hypocrisy made Xiao Yi’s expression colder by the second. He had no desire to argue with them. In the apocalypse, strength was the only law.

If they wanted his supplies, they could try taking them!

“You ungrateful motherfucker! You’re asking to die!”

Chen Kun’s face twisted savagely. He raised the pole and swung it at Xiao Yi’s head with all his strength.

Chen Kun had practiced taekwondo since childhood and had earned a black belt. Against an apparently harmless man like Xiao Yi, he was completely confident of victory.

“No!”

Tang Ningning screamed and turned her head, unable to watch what she believed was about to happen.

Zhang Hua had offended Chen Kun, who led several people in breaking his left arm before Du Zhiming and the others threw him outside to die. Tang Ningning knew that Xiao Yi was likely about to suffer the same terrible fate.

She wanted to step forward and help him, but she possessed neither the courage nor the ability.

She was only a physically weak young woman. All she could do was pray silently for Xiao Yi.

“What an idiot! Defying Young Master Chen is asking for death!” Ling Xueya snorted. She watched the blow descend with contempt and malicious delight.

But just before the pole struck Xiao Yi’s forehead, a gleaming modao suddenly appeared in his hands. Filthy blood and scraps of flesh still clung to its blade, making it look exceptionally savage and terrifying.

Slice!

The blade flashed. Ling Xueya, who had been mocking Xiao Yi only a moment before, suddenly screamed in terror.

“AHHHH!”

Chen Kun’s agonized howl followed.

The arm holding the wooden pole struck the floor with a heavy thud, spraying blood everywhere.

The two lackeys preparing to support Chen Kun were splattered from head to toe.

Hot blood covered their faces. They shrieked as if possessed and collapsed onto their backsides.

Staring at Xiao Yi’s demonlike figure, both men trembled uncontrollably. Yellow liquid spread beneath their crotches as they kicked at the floor and scrambled backward, desperate to put more distance between themselves and the monster before them.

They were only students. When had they ever witnessed anything so bloody?

They might have been in schoolyard fights, but the worst they had done was wave sticks around and intimidate people. They had never seen someone cut off an entire arm with a massive blade over a few hostile words.

How could this thing still be human?

He was clearly a demon!

Only then did everyone understand. If Xiao Yi could return with food after venturing into a world filled with zombies, how could he possibly be as harmless as he appeared?

If he did not fear hordes of zombies, why would he fear a handful of powerless students?
