Apocalypse: I Built a City of Sin

Tang Ningning was an exceptional psychology student. She understood the darkness of human nature more deeply than anyone else present.

Some people might consider Xiao Yi’s actions evil, but Tang Ningning saw them as a form of mercy.

After all, Xiao Yi had not forced anyone to do anything.

He had merely offered to exchange his property for what they could give him.

Everything Ling Xueya and the others had done was their own choice, not something Xiao Yi had instructed them to do.

At the very least, he did not directly force anyone. He gave them the right to choose.

If Ling Xueya had valued her dignity enough to refuse, Tang Ningning believed Xiao Yi would never have used physical force to compel her.

In an apocalypse like this, such behavior was already merciful.

Tang Ningning considered herself fortunate to follow a man like him. She was deeply grateful that she had chosen to defend Xiao Yi when the others turned against him.

“You’re right. No one is born evil—there are only good people whom the world turns bad.”

Xiao Yi walked over to Tang Ningning and lifted her onto his back. After securing her with a rope, he ignored the others kneeling on the floor and pleading with him and headed for the door.

“Xiao Yi! I’m your woman now! Aren’t you taking me with you?”

Ling Xueya crawled toward his legs like an animal, her face filled with desperation.

“You’re mistaken. You’re nothing more than my plaything.” Xiao Yi looked at Du Zhiming and the others kneeling nearby, his expression cold. “But even if you are only my plaything, I won’t allow anyone else to touch you. I’ll return in a while to make another trade.”

With that, Xiao Yi opened the door and disappeared into the light beyond it.

Only after he left did the others slowly rise. Silence enveloped the entire storeroom.

“Chen Kun is crippled now. What should we do with him?” one young man asked, looking at Chen Kun’s unconscious body.

“Hmph! Didn’t he enjoy ordering people outside to die? Wasn’t he always calling us useless and looking down on us? Let him go outside and search for food!” the scrawny student who had once constantly sucked up to Chen Kun suggested viciously.

“I agree! Keeping a useless cripple here will only burden us. Besides, he treated Xiao Yi terribly. Xiao Yi certainly doesn’t want him living comfortably. If we want to obtain more food from Xiao Yi, we absolutely cannot make him unhappy!” a female student added coldly.

Du Zhiming thought for a moment, then turned to Ling Xueya with an ingratiating expression.

“Xueya, you did very well today! You saved everyone’s lives. We’ll let you decide what happens to Chen Kun.”

Everyone looked toward Ling Xueya. Given the depth of her relationship with Chen Kun, they assumed she would find a way to save him.

Instead, Ling Xueya stared blankly at the door through which Xiao Yi had vanished, her eyes cold and empty.

“Throw him outside. I never want to see that useless cripple again.”

...

Xiao Yi carried Tang Ningning back to the City of Sin and handed her over to Li Wanning.

“From now on, the three of you will take turns managing the Tombs. Your job is to keep burying zombie corpses without interruption.”

With Tang Ningning joining them, the three women could work in shifts. They could continue processing corpses throughout the night, greatly improving the burial rate.

Li Wanning nodded obediently at the arrival of a newcomer and began explaining the rules of the City of Sin to Tang Ningning.

Those rules naturally combined Xiao Yi’s usual demands with several principles Li Wanning had inferred on her own.

The first rule she recited was that they must address Xiao Yi as Master and obey every order he gave them without condition.

Xiao Yi was reasonably satisfied with that one. The second rule, however, immediately left him speechless.

Li Wanning spoke with complete seriousness. “Our daily work consists of burying corpses and serving Master. Every day, we must do everything possible to make Master comfortable and happy! You’re new, so I don’t know whether Master has favored you yet. If he hasn’t, I will personally train you tonight in how to serve him in bed!”

Tang Ningning adjusted her glasses and carefully took notes in a notebook, as attentive as if she were listening to an important speech from a senior leader.

Li Wanning was very pleased by her serious attitude. With her hands clasped behind her back, she paced slowly and continued instructing her.

“Never forget your identity. We are Master’s most loyal servants! Making him happy is our greatest honor and responsibility! If you ever upset him, then even if Master chooses not to punish you, the rest of us will punish you severely!”

Shen Tingting nodded repeatedly and adopted the experienced air of a senior.

“Sister Wanning was the first to receive Master’s favor, so she’s the Eldest Sister. I was second, making me the Second Sister. You’re number three, so you’re our Third Sister. Understand?”

“Yes, Second Sister!”

Tang Ningning nodded earnestly and adjusted her glasses, then said sadly, “But Master hasn’t favored me yet...”

“What? You’re a disgrace to all of us! Don’t worry—we’ll definitely help you tonight!” Shen Tingting said with a snicker.

“Mm-hmm! Thank you, Eldest Sister and Second Sister! I’ll work hard tonight!”

Tang Ningning gritted her teeth and nodded with solemn determination.
