Apocalypse: I Built a City of Sin

“Master! Look—the people in the gymnasium are charging out again!”

The moment Xiao Yi emerged from the Dark Castle, Li Wanning hurried over and pointed toward the distant gymnasium.

He climbed onto the city wall and looked in that direction.

Sure enough, Shen Jiabin and the other three basketball players had armed themselves with baseball bats and begun fighting their way down.

Shen Jiabin and Zhuang Qiang had tied flattened plastic bottles all over their bodies as makeshift armor. They had even put on baseball helmets and were courageously clearing a path at the front.

The other two men followed close behind, constantly swinging their bats to cover them.

Tang Jingyan and the remaining woman stood on the roof, watching the four men’s advance with nervous expressions.

Xiao Yi had already cleared most of the zombies from the gymnasium’s third-floor corridor, so only a few remained.

The four men quickly and successfully reached the second floor.

“Kill them!”

“ROAR! Come and face your grandfather!”

The sight of zombies gathering ahead sent Shen Jiabin and Zhuang Qiang into a bloodthirsty frenzy. They roared excitedly as they attacked.

“Kill!” the other two shouted as well, bolstering the group’s courage.

Until then, the sounds of their battle had not been especially loud and had attracted only the zombies already in the corridor.

Their shouting immediately drew the attention of the zombies on the first floor and in the plaza outside.

“Wow! Brother Bin is incredible!”

“Keep going!”

The woman standing beside Tang Jingyan began shouting excitedly as she watched the men fight.

Tang Jingyan also called out encouragement, hoping to contribute in whatever small way she could.

Thanks to all the noise, Xiao Yi saw more and more zombies converging on the four men.

“Idiots,” he cursed coldly. They were not far from death now.

Even with his vastly superior combat power, Xiao Yi would never dare provoke such an enormous number of zombies.

Whenever he fought, he ended the battle as quickly as possible and remained constantly on the move.

Yet these fools were deliberately roaring and attracting more enemies. They were courting death.

With a thought, Xiao Yi commanded the Three-Eyed Raven perched atop the Dark Castle to fly toward the gymnasium.

Shen Jiabin and the others continued fighting, completely unaware that a massive wave of zombies was closing in.

Among the horde were several bizarre, black-skinned zombies with short, apelike bodies. They moved through the crowd with astonishing speed.

“I told you from the beginning! These zombies are nothing but brainless trash!” Shen Jiabin shouted. Successfully breaking through from the third floor to the second had sent his confidence soaring. Remembering how easily Xiao Yi had traveled through the horde, he now believed the zombies were nothing special. “If a filthy level-ten cripple can do it, there’s no way we can’t!”

“Brother Bin! There’s a storage room in the second-floor gym filled with protein powder,” Gu Fanghua called from behind him, pointing excitedly toward the room. “If we can reach it, there should be enough to feed us for at least three or four days!”

The gym was barely a dozen meters away, and only a handful of zombies blocked the route.

“Why bother with disgusting protein powder?” Shen Jiabin replied dismissively. “With our strength, we can reach the martial arts hall on the first floor and find proper weapons! Once we’re armed, do you think we’ll have any trouble finding food?”

His confidence had completely overwhelmed his judgment.

Food was not what Shen Jiabin wanted most. He wanted a weapon.

Once he obtained one, he could lead the others against Xiao Yi and take revenge.

Besides, he knew Xiao Yi’s strange shelter contained plenty of food.

After arming themselves, the four of them could kill Xiao Yi and seize the shelter for their own!

“Ahhh!”

Ignoring the warnings of the two men behind him, Shen Jiabin roared and charged heroically into the zombies with his baseball bat raised.

“Brothers! Show them the courage and dominance of real men! As long as we remain brave, united, and of one heart, we will become the kings of this apocalypse!”

He smashed the skulls of two zombies and raised his bat triumphantly.

“Zombies aren’t frightening! The only frightening thing is the fear inside our hearts! Brothers, follow me! The Dream Team will prevail!”

“ROAR! THE DREAM TEAM WILL PREVAIL!”

There was no denying that Shen Jiabin possessed some talent for leadership. His stirring declaration filled the other three men with courage, and their morale instantly reached its peak.

In the very next instant, a short, black-skinned zombie shot up the stairs from the first floor.

It moved with terrifying speed and sank its teeth into Shen Jiabin’s neck.

His inspiring cry still echoed through the corridor when the zombie killed him.

Shen Jiabin’s eyes remained wide open, filled with disbelief and unwillingness.
