Chapter 542: Chapter 493: Carrying (Additional update, two in one, ten thousand updates for monthly ticket, subscription) _3

This is also a reluctant gamble, for them, being able to do so is already the best outcome.

With so many zombies, if they had directly driven away just now, perhaps one or two vehicles might have escaped, but most of them would have died on the way.

It’s more likely that they would have been completely wiped out in this horde of a hundred thousand zombies.

Li Tie and the others took turns to kill zombies for half an hour before switching with other people, the zombie bodies below had piled up to more than two hundred dead, averaging only a few seconds to kill one zombie.

Now, the pile of zombie corpses had become a small hill, but compared to the water tower over thirty meters tall, it was incomparable.

To make the zombies form a cone and stack up, it would take millions of zombies to reach such a height.

Because these zombies are not very agile, the slope of their pile is too shallow.

Therefore, they were temporarily safe.

After Li Tie came down from his position just now, he and Dapao entered a small room directly.

Li Tie’s arms had been swinging earlier, feeling now as heavy as a thousand catties, his muscles sore and trembling as he held food and rations, falling into a deep sleep halfway through eating.

Among the workers who followed Old Qin from the military to civilian life was Su Mei, who was once mistaken by Li Gang for a man, and another girl.

The other girl saw Li Tie fall asleep with crumbs of compressed biscuits at the corner of his mouth, his mouth foolishly opened, and thought it was quite cute and also felt a bit heartache.

After pondering for a moment, she boldly stepped forward, covered Li Tie with a blanket in front of him, and then put down the food he was holding in his hands.

Having done all this, she went back to her former position on her own. Third Uncle, who had already woken up, saw this scene and smiled slightly.

His two sons, one Tie and one Gang, he had hoped they would have the will of steel.

He hadn’t expected that along with the will of steel, there would also come a steel-like obliviousness to women.

Now at last, dammit, there were women coming to them.

Solid build, big hips, good for nurturing life, able to bear children.

Third Uncle chuckled to himself, feeling it was time to give his son some advice. Not to spend all day playing with guns, but to also play with some real landmines.

The rain kept falling.

Everyone didn’t know how long it would last, so they kept waiting.

Until they completed a round of two and a half hours, the rain still hadn’t stopped.

So, they began another round of duty.

....

Big Camphor Tree Base.

The rain had been falling continuously for more than twenty hours now, and a day and a half had passed since Third Uncle left the base. Concern for their situation was growing.

Things that needed to be done still had to be continuously carried out.

Ever since Old Qin brought the lathes, many tasks had become more efficient in their production.

Li Yu, on that rainy noon, came to the factory to see the situation; Bai Jie, with her knowledge of chemistry, was able to make professional suggestions on bullet formulations, and had been assisting here for a while.

After teaching the others the basic knowledge, she returned to her research.

Li Yu always had complicated feelings about her. As a man, especially in the post-apocalyptic world.

Facing Bai Jie’s seductive temptations, he had resisted many times, but he felt that maybe he could not control himself much longer.

Arriving at the factory.

He saw Ding Jiu and Song Qi and some of their schoolmates, these high school students, good at learning, absorbing knowledge, and very respectful towards Li Yu, with blind admiration. After being saved by Li Yu, they joined the base to resist zombies; only then did they realize the hardships outside and appreciate the preciousness of the base.

They were young in age, so they became die-hard fans of Li Yu.

Young and quick learners, so Li Yu arranged for them to learn how to make bullets.

Li Yu saw them skillfully operating the lathe, and said to Song Qi: ”Xiao Qi, how is the production going now?”

Song Qi, seeing Li Yu come in, excitedly said: ”With these lathes now, we can produce three thousand bullets a day, and that’s only with three lathes running. The main issue now is the shortage of raw materials. If all lathes could run and raw materials could be used without restriction, we could increase the output by more than tenfold!”

Li Yu heard these figures and felt moved; being able to produce thousands of bullets a day was already enough for their current base consumption.

And the base didn’t just use guns; there were also crossbows.

With these lathes, they could also be used to make arrows for crossbows, with the compound crossbow’s strong power, these arrows could also kill zombies.

So he said to Song Qi: ”Good, you are doing well, great job, keep it up, the base needs your protection....”

A few ordinary words of encouragement left their faces flushed with excitement.

Song Qi eagerly asked: ”Big Brother Li, when can I join in on the missions?”

Li Yu looked at him; at seventeen, having just arrived at sixteen, but with the stature of a grown man at over one meter eighty, hardly different from an adult.

He pondered for a moment and said: ”If you can pass the shooting course and the final martial arts test, you can participate next time.”

Song Qi nodded excitedly.
