Chapter 539: Chapter 492: Evacuation to the Water Tower (Combined)_3

So Third Uncle said to Old Qin: ”Old Qin, you go up first.”

After speaking, he shot at the zombies coming toward them a few times.

Old Qin was about to speak when Third Uncle authoritatively said: ”This is an order, don’t waste time here.”

Old Qin immediately slung his gun behind his back and climbed up without another word.

As Old Qin climbed up to a height of three meters, Third Uncle also began to scale up.

Bang bang bang~

Those who had already reached the top of the Water Tower fired at the zombies climbing over the wall.

The number of zombies climbing over was not many at the moment, but they were coming continuously; once one zombie got in, others followed.

Some zombies, upon entry, did not directly head towards the Water Tower.

Instead, they crazily gnawed on the bodies lying there.

Over a hundred bodies on the ground eased the pressure on Third Uncle and his group. Some zombies originally targeted the Water Tower, but on their way, distracted by the bodies next to them, they ignored Third Uncle and the others.

By this time, Third Uncle and Old Qin had climbed to a height of tens of meters.

This Water Tower, over thirty meters high, was equivalent to a building of about ten or more stories.

For some reason, the wind and rain seemed to have intensified while Old Qin was climbing.

Snap~

A step suddenly broke off, and Old Qin’s right foot found nothing but air.

Clatter clatter---

Old Qin’s body slid down a few steps, his right hand tightly gripping the iron railing.

Thud!

Finally finding footing on an iron step, Old Qin, drenched in sweat, breathed a sigh of relief.

Seeing this, Third Uncle below him also felt nervous; just before, he had been ready to catch Old Qin’s falling leg to support him.

”Slow down, be careful,” shouted Third Uncle from below.

Wiping what was either sweat or rain from his face, Old Qin called down to Third Uncle, ”There’s a broken step above, be careful not to step into thin air.”

Broken!

On hearing this, Third Uncle felt somewhat displeased. They did have climbing ropes, but in the rush to get up, they hadn’t dropped any for them.

Third Uncle thought, once the Zombie Tide was dealt with and it was possible to ascend, they definitely should use the ropes for safety.

The rain was heavy.

Especially higher up; the higher one went, one could get the illusion that the entire structure was slightly swaying. This illusion did not feel safe and was frightening.

As the two climbed higher and higher, just when they were about to reach the very top, whoosh whoosh whoosh~

A gust of wind blew over, flipping open a pouch inside Old Qin’s jacket.

”My stuff!” Old Qin shouted.

It seemed that the little pouch, which fell down amidst the encircling zombies, contained something very important to him. But after a two-second hesitation, realizing he couldn’t linger, he continued to climb upwards.

In the final moment, Li Tie and others quickly pulled Old Qin up, and he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Then Third Uncle, who climbed onto the top platform unscathed.

After climbing up, he briefly surveyed the surroundings. A hundred square meters area, not too big or too small, and right in the very center, there was a small house about fifty square meters, with a roof that could shelter from rain.

Beneath this small house in the center, there was a small step, and under the step was a massive water tank.

This water tank was extremely large, capable of holding at least a hundred tons of water, but the Water Tower hasn’t been used for a long time, and it only contained a third of its capacity now.

They were unsure about the water quality here, but it was certain that the platform could easily support more than forty people standing on it.

”Dad, come inside and rest for a bit,” Li Tie said to his father from within the room.

All of them had been drenched in the rain for nearly 20 hours, and during this spring transitional period, it was very easy to catch a cold.

Dapao, Old Lü, Li Gang, and the others who were first to ascend were wearing raincoats, observing the zombies below from around this thirty-plus meter high platform.

The Water Tower was the tallest building in the prison, allowing an unobstructed view from above.

The zombies below were frantically devouring the corpses on the ground, encircling the bodies of the dead prisoners like a rising tide.

The innermost zombies might still snatch the fattest hearts, those in the middle layer might get lucky and tear off an arm or leg, but those on the outer layer could only crowd together, ineffectually screeching in place.

The clouds, layer upon layer, covered the sun completely, these dark clouds served like an umbrella for the zombies, shielding them from the scorching sun.

Outwards.

Atop the wall, zombies continued to pour in incessantly, slightly resembling scenes from pre-apocalyptic movies like ”World War Z,” only the zombies moved slower, their bodies less agile, and their numbers fewer.

These zombies could only clumsily ascend.

Under sunlight, these zombies would fall into a system crash mode, only capable of moving forwards, backwards, left, and right. If a car was placed in front of these zombies, it would block them.

However, in the pouring rain, their agility seemed to increase. The sheer numbers also appeared somewhat horrific.

Looking further out, one could see that the prison, both inside and out, was surrounded by zombies.

The surrounding areas were all forested, hard to see clearly, but in the open areas, there were all zombies.

It felt as though the entire world had been overtaken by zombies, a sight that could drive one to despair.

Suddenly, Li Tie heard a piercing scream from one of the prison cells.

”Ahh~~”

It was a man covered in filth, who climbed out from a toilet window into the jail cell.

He had been hiding well in the toilet but hadn’t expected the zombies to find him.

However, the scene he witnessed after escaping the window only deepened his despair.

Everywhere he looked, in all directions, there were zombies.

Screaming!

The surrounding zombies, as if noticing his appearance, all halted as if shocked.

But quickly, those zombies that hadn’t snatched any food, undeterred by the man’s filth, excitedly rushed towards him.

The man tried to run frantically, but, one needs a direction to escape to. With 360 degrees surrounded by zombies, where could he run?

The man, exuding a nauseating smell, closed his eyes in despair.

Click, click, click~

In just three seconds, the man was devoured by the surging Zombie Tide.

In the last second before he closed his eyes, he saw the clouds in the sky that looked like a gigantic face.
