Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

However, the arrival of someone from outside the door relaxed them considerably; if this person before their eyes was not loyal to Elder Ye, then there was no one more loyal to Elder Ye in this world.

It was Elder Ye’s guard squad leader Yi Longfei. Upon entering, he saluted and immediately said to Elder Ye:

”Elder Ye, Fang Tong and Xie Weishan, along with some others, stole two vehicles parked outside and fled after opening the gate. A gun was fired just now, injuring one of our men.

Old Bi’s squad originally wanted to stop them, but these two bastards actually dared to shoot directly. They killed two people.

Furthermore, some rumor has been spread; those civilians we rescued know there’s food in those vehicles, and now they are madly snatching the food from the last truck. Right now, Old Bi’s men are facing off against these civilians.”

Upon hearing this, Elder Ye was so furious that he passed out.

Who would have thought, who would have thought, that teams led by these two, which we took in after their disbandment, would end in such a scenario.

Old Bi stood up abruptly and charged out.

Last night, Old Fang and Old Xie were still saying that Elder Ye’s health was deteriorating, and Captain Luo had disappeared. They said that we all needed to work together, to huddle for warmth.

Never would I have guessed that their words of yesterday were nothing but fart talk.

Seeing the food, they actually robbed and fled, killing two of their own in the process.

Damn them for playing dirty!

Who would have thought we saved two ingrates.

Before Old Bi came in, he had ordered his men to guard the food, not expecting Fang Tong and Xie Weishan to act so ruthlessly.

Old Bi, including himself, brought a total of 23 men, constantly organizing protection for the base on rotating shifts. There were six or seven left outside just now.

After Old Bi rushed out, he saw that the compartment of the last truck was opened, and the food poured out with a clatter. Some civilians carried buckets and sacks to fill up and compete for the food.

Hundreds of civilians, paying no heed to the men of Old Bi trying to stop them, snatched the food and ran.

Bang!

As soon as Old Bi got out, he fired a shot, but the civilians completely ignored it because Elder Ye had set a rule in the base: one could kill zombies, but must absolutely not treat civilians as enemies.

Though Old Bi and others had complaints, they still resolutely followed Elder Ye’s commands.

These people were not afraid of Old Bi and his men.

Old Bi watched his men being pushed around by the civilians, feeling the urge to shoot but not daring to do so.

Frustrated, this was the food Captain Luo had worked so hard to bring back, and now most of it had been snatched away by Fang Tong and Xie Weishan.

The food from this truck was also being grabbed by the civilians.

If it were up to Elder Ye’s character, he would definitely have distributed some of the food to these civilians, but they were now being directly looted!

Old Bi saw these people not afraid of his shooting, burning with rage.

Thinking of how Elder Ye had fainted with anger, Old Bi, engulfed with fury, fired a shot at the shoulder of someone filling a sack with the grain.

Bang!

The man was hit, and crimson blood flowed from his shoulder.

”Stop it, all of you!” Old Bi yelled at the crowd.

But seeing that Old Bi only fired one shot and wounded one person, they thought that was it.

And the food was what mattered most; some of them hadn’t eaten for days.

Without food, they would die anyway, but stealing food might not necessarily lead to death.

So, better to just snatch it.

What they didn’t know was that according to Elder Ye’s original plan, these people would have been given a portion even if they didn’t snatch it.

Oh, the fickleness of the human heart.

Watching the crowd speed up their plundering.

Old Bi, out of desperation, fired two more shots, killing two people.

Behind him, the rest of the team, hearing the gunshots, also rushed over with guns aimed at the crowd.

”Anyone who dares to snatch will be shot on the spot,” Old Bi said to the crowd and to the teammates behind him.

Some teammates hesitated, wanting to say something, because Elder Ye had given orders before, but seeing the scene unfold, they chose to remain silent.

Some teammates unlocked the safety on their guns; they had long wanted to do this. These people had been staying in the base, not obeying management was one thing, but they had been clamoring for food every day.

In fact, they had been given a portion before, but these people only grew more insistent.

More than twenty people brandished guns, and with two shots fired earlier by Old Bi, two men were killed, which finally instilled fear in those trying to snatch the food.

They scattered and retreated.

Some took advantage of the chaos to scoop up a couple of handfuls from the pile of food, then squeezed into the back of the crowd.

Once the commoners had backed away, the figures who had originally been guarding by the vehicle finally became visible.

Each of them was bruised and swollen-faced, looking at the commoners while gasping for breath.

Their frustration was unbearable—they had guns in hand, but they just couldn’t open fire.

Frustration!

Military orders are as immovable as mountains.

Old Bi, with his men in tow, walked over to the vehicle.

Captain Luo also stepped forward, along with some people who had always followed him, emerging from the ranks to stand by his side.

Seeing the gate smashed open and some commoners running away with looted food, Captain Luo said to the people beside him, ”Xiao Liu, Xiao Ding, take five men and close the gate. Don’t allow anyone in or out.

Anyone who dares to break in gets executed on the spot.”

Xiao Liu and Xiao Ding were both part of the team that had gone out with Captain Luo to search for food, and having endured the ordeal at Luo Tianyan, and possibly influenced by Li Yu, they were no longer blindly loyal to certain beliefs.

They dared to strike and could do so thoroughly.

Captain Luo walked over to Old Bi and said after some thought, ”Old Bi, over here, I and Old Ye’s security team along with Old Yi can handle it.

Right now, the pressing matter is to see if we can take back the stolen vehicle’s food, and even if we can’t, we can’t just let Fang Tong and Xie Weishan, those two bastards, benefit.”

Old Bi contemplated for a moment, then nodded and said to Captain Luo, ”Can you hold things steady here?”

Captain Luo recalled how resolute Li Yu had been, including some of the words Li Yu had once said to him.

Some people are not worth protecting.

This world is no longer the one we knew.

Such ideas greatly shook his set of values.

Which is more important, the comrades he fought alongside or the commoners who are strangers?

Some people are simply not worth saving; saving them only leads to them taking advantage of you, thinking you owe it to them.

At this moment, Captain Luo finally understood the words Li Yu had said to him.

In this world, where order has already become what it is, if one cannot save the world, then at least start with saving those around them.

Being ruthless is not for oneself.

In the face of Old Bi’s question, Captain Luo nodded and said, ”We’ve been too kind to them in the past, to the point where they’ve forgotten that we don’t owe them anything. You go ahead with your men.”

Old Bi looked at Captain Luo, who seemed to have changed but not overtly so, nodded, and said, ”Alright.”

Then he led twenty men, driving off to pursue the thieves.

Yi Longfei’s men also came out to help maintain order.

At the base now, Old Bi led more than a dozen men, and Old Yi led a security team of ten—originally there were twelve, but two had fallen in the apocalypse.

Additionally, the group originally led by Captain Luo was the largest at over forty, but after their last outing in search of food, the casualties were severe. Now returned, including Xiao Ding and Xiao Liu, their numbers only added up to twelve.

Aside from the dozen men Fang Tong took during the escape, and the dozen Xie Weishan led,

there were only around forty people left in the base in total.

If you exclude the twenty who went out in pursuit with Old Bi, there were only twenty-two people left in the base.

An unprecedented decline for the base.

Captain Luo walked up to the vehicle and saw the commoners still appearing eager to try, and his heart filled with an all-encompassing sorrow.

He understood why they looted; he understood, and because he understood, he felt helpless.

According to what Xiao Ding, who had also been outside protecting the vehicles, had said, Fang Tong and Xie Weishan didn’t come alone but brought these commoners with them.

Without so many people, how could two vehicles have been stolen?

These two men simply used the commoners to their advantage and drove away the two vehicles amid the chaos.

The vehicle blocking the gate had also been under their control from early on—it seemed that these people had planned it all along.
