Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Accepting one’s mediocrity is difficult, but so is accepting one’s exceptionalism.

We are always caught between extreme confidence and inferiority. Hesitant and unsure.

With the expansion of the base, the number now includes extra staff, reaching over two hundred people, plus those potentially joining the base in the future, tallying up to a hundred more.

That’s quite a sizeable number.

Li Yu spent the five years after his rebirth at the very bottom of the post-apocalyptic world, struggling to survive.

During those years, he learned how to kill a zombie the fastest, learned how to kill a person the fastest and saw the worst in humanity, as well as its highest goodness.

But in the end, numbed, carrying the weight of fatigue and a heart full of scars, he managed just to stay alive.

It was not until he was reborn that he, comforted by family and friends, felt like an old tree greeting spring, reviving with vitality.

He wanted to live, to live well, to live well with his family and friends.

But as the base developed, he realized it wasn’t going to be easy.

Having just seen off Qin and He Bing and others, he discussed bullet production with Second Uncle and others.

Third Uncle also pointed out a problem with bullet production – black gunpowder was only a makeshift solution; it was imperative to find someone who understood chemical formulas and could produce smokeless gunpowder for making better bullets.

Talent was an issue that needed to be resolved, but with so many people in the base, including the extra staff, they would just have to see if anyone could address this issue in time.

Outside the walls, the moat was still under construction; the crops within the base showed promising growth.

An Ya was making a significant contribution; not only did she know how to plant, but she also knew how to cultivate higher-yielding crops, a project she was gradually proceeding with.

In the night.

Second Uncle suddenly sought out Li Yu, who could guess why Second Uncle would find him.

And he knew why Second Uncle wanted to see him.

After dinner, the two took a walk on the mountain trail.

After walking in silence for a while, Second Uncle suddenly asked: ”Xiao Yu, you’ve been working hard.”

Li Yu smiled wryly and said to Second Uncle, ”Everyone’s working hard. It’s kind of meaningless if you say it like that, Second Uncle.”

Second Uncle, not one for beating around the bush, asked straightforwardly, ”What do you think about Qin and his people?”

After some thought, Li Yu replied, ”Third Uncle’s comrades-in-arms, I think they’re reliable. Right now, we need to wait and see. Whether they’re capable and trustworthy will depend on their future actions.”

Second Uncle nodded and said, ”I trust your judgment. The base’s population has increased, and even though He Chao and his people are not problematic, things are now different from before. With more people, there are different ideas, and it’s becoming more challenging to manage.”

Li Yu always believed that self-interest motivates people, and people are never satisfied.

But, everyone has weaknesses; never underestimate anyone, as people are not fools. This chapter was originally posted on NovelFire.

With a somber expression, Li Yu said, ”People always have weaknesses. Take He Chao, for instance; with his daughter in the base, he won’t think about rebelling. It’s the same with others. People get restless when idle.

Second Uncle, about that prison mentioned by Black Snake in the Northern Provincial Capital City, I want to deal with this soon. When the time comes, I plan to take Qin and his group there.”

Second Uncle was slightly stunned. It was possible, but every time there was a problem, Li Yu was at the forefront, while he himself managed various affairs at the base.

Li Yu continued, ”Second Uncle, you’re more experienced than me when it comes to the minutiae of base management. I need you to take extra care when I’m not around.”

Second Uncle opened his mouth to speak, swallowed the words he wanted to say, and fell silent for a while before finally speaking, ”Be very careful, you know. These things could be delegated to others.”

Li Yu shook his head and said, ”Patience is key. Tiezi, Gangzi, Xiao Hang, Haoran, Haoxian, they’ve all grown a lot. Eventually, they can bear the burden.”

Uncle and nephew had nothing to hide from one another. Alone in the mountain woods, under the light of the street lamps, they communicated about the development of the base.

In Li Yu’s heart, Second Uncle had done a very good job managing the base. He himself was better suited to making strategic decisions, while Second Uncle performed better on the operational level.

They talked for a long time, discussing the future of the base and their views on the current personnel.

....

Back in his room, Li Yu filled the bathtub with water, soaking in it, the warm water seemingly washing away all his fatigue.

After soaking for over ten minutes, he got up.

He felt refreshed and lighter in spirit and body.

The night was quiet, and from outside the walls, the distant howls of zombies could barely be heard with the windows closed.

The door of the room suddenly opened.

Li Yu turned his head to look; it was Yutong, who, after entering the room, locked the door behind her.

”This is…” Li Yu looked at Yutong in surprise.

Yutong glanced at Li Yu with irritation, this clueless man, and then, somewhat angrily, proceeded to unlock the door, preparing to leave.

Li Yu looked at his freshly bathed family member, her hair smelling of shampoo, quickly moved closer, and placed his hand on Yutong, who was about to leave.

”What, what are you doing?” Yutong glared at Li Yu, her face full of indignation.
