Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 535: Chapter 491: The Destruction of Human Civilization

The rainy season brings with it an extremely humid air.

Especially in the south, the indoors are particularly damp.

Sometimes, the thick fog covers all the buildings visible in sight; even touching the walls, one can feel the moisture seeping out.

Deep into the night, Li Yu remains on the perimeter walls, watching the distant woods where the zombies continue to roar helplessly.

For the perimeter walls of the Outer City, Li Yu has also begun to have people take turns standing guard atop them; even though bullets can now be produced at the base, when it comes to these zombies,

the main form of attack still principally involves recoverable crossbow fire. As Li Yu watches these zombies, he contemplates whether to create an automated zombie-clearing machine; relying on hand-to-hand killing is too slow and laboriously wasteful.

With these thoughts, Li Yu looks back at the two mountains within the base, where clouds and mist intertwine and rainwater incessantly pours down into them.

The rainwater falls onto the forest soil, with the plants absorbing the moisture hungrily and thirstily.

But there is simply too much rain, with the vast majority flowing off the soil surface, heading towards the Mountain Pond in the center of the woods.

The water level at Mountain Pond Reservoir is slowly rising, the outlet is already open, though not completely, just one third of it.

Only when it is fully opened does it mean that the water level at the Mountain Pond is approaching the shore’s height.

Although worried about the safety of Third Uncle and the others far in the north, Li Yu and the others are well aware that there is nothing they can do right now.

At three in the morning,

Second Uncle arrives at the perimeter walls and sees that Li Yu is still in the guardroom on the walls, he walks in.

”Second Uncle, you’re up so early?” Li Yu unexpectedly looks at Second Uncle and asks.

Second Uncle rubs the center of his eyebrows and sighs, ”I didn’t sleep all night, couldn’t sleep. Thinking of your Third Uncle and Xiao Tie who are still out there, I’m worried. With so much rain, who knows what situation they are in now.”

Li Yu also frowns, he is equally worried, but thinking of the capabilities Third Uncle showed before, he believes that Third Uncle will be able to safely lead them back.

He has that kind of confidence, confidence in Third Uncle.

...

Far in an even more southerly location at Furong Mountain Base.

They are located in the suburbs of the suburbs, nearly a hundred kilometers away from the provincial capital city, but when the downpour comes, they still face many zombies.

After cremating old Leaf, they began to load everything onto vehicles.

But just as they were about to depart the next day, a torrential rain hit during the night.

When the downpour struck, some people on duty atop the shipping containers at the entrance were guarding the gates.

The sudden downpour caught everyone off guard.

Some survivors ran to the gates, pounding hard on them, urging Luo to open up.

Luo observed the zombie horde less than 20 meters behind the survivors and did not open the gates.

Not mentioning the previous incidents where these survivors snatched food, it is just for self-preservation.

With a 20-meter gap, once the gates are opened, there was no time to close them back up.

If the gates were opened, it would not only fail to save the survivors, but also leave themselves to perish at the hands of the zombies.

”Captain, Captain, should we open the gates?” Xiao Ding hesitated for a moment before asking Luo.

He too knew that opening the gates could very likely lead to a crisis.

It’s just that seeing those few survivors beneath the wall, crying so piteously and even kneeling down to plead in unison, tugged at his heartstrings.

Before Luo could reply, the zombies behind the people surged forward.

Click-clack~

Those people, like a drop of water merged into the ocean, like a few grains in a locust-plagued field, were instantly devoured by the zombies.

”Let’s not talk about them, we might not even survive ourselves! Martial law, didn’t I just ask you to notify old Bi and the others? Why hasn’t old Bi arrived yet? Tell them to hurry up, everyone come here!” Luo shouts.

”Oh, okay.” Xiao Ding quickly runs back again.

But after just a few steps, he sees old Bi, Xiao Shi, and old Yi along with more than twenty others hurrying over.

While running, old Bi shouts towards Luo, ”What’s the situation outside?”

With the rain and the noise of water, Luo shouts at the top of his lungs, ”The zombies have come, what else could the situation be?”

Xiao Shi isn’t encountering the Zombie Tide for the first time and therefore isn’t too nervous about it.

Considering it’s inescapable trouble, the only option is to confront it.

Once old Bi and the others reach the stacked-high shipping containers on the wall and see some buildings in the distance with survivors waving at them,

there are also some other survivors, closer, atop the buildings outside the base, crying out for them to rescue them.

However, neither Xiao Shi nor anybody else shows a hint of reaction.

To go out and save them would undoubtedly be a death wish; with so many zombies around, to forge a path through would mean losing how many lives.

Why should they risk so much to save those five people on top of the building?

Before the apocalypse, perhaps they would have, but after the apocalypse, having seen, encountered, listened, and experienced—especially witnessing people entering the city, snatching food, and then leaving the base without hesitation—they know that these people are not worth saving.

They show no response to the cries for help from the survivors not too far away.

The survivors shout:

”It’s raining, the zombies are here, come save us. Help us, please.”
