Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Twenty thousand kilograms...

If we go by what he’s feeling inside now, divide?

Damn dividing!

Perhaps Captain Luo was influenced by Li Yu, or maybe because of the food they brought back through all the hardships, which was then exploited by Fang Tong and Xie Weishan, taking most of the food.

The rest that had already been confirmed for distribution is now being fought over.

He was furious.

He felt it was unworthy of the deceased comrades, unworthy of Grandpa Ye, and unworthy for himself too.

The world is not devoid of kindness, but within that kindness, disappointment often sneaks in. Hearts cool quickly and warm with difficulty.

Of course, Luo didn’t dare to say this outright; based on his understanding of Grandpa Ye, if he were to voice his true thoughts, surely Grandpa would berate him for losing his original purpose.

Facing Grandpa Ye’s question, Luo thought for a while and could only hypothesize with a testing tone, ”How about? Two kilograms per person?”

His confidence was somewhat lacking, but he spoke up anyway.

Now, Old Bi and the others have gone out to look for Fang Tong and his group. It’s uncertain whether they can retrieve the food.

Chances are slim, considering there’s no tracking and some time has passed, plus Fang Tong and Xie Weishan have quite a few people on their side.

It’s very likely that Old Bi and the others won’t be able to catch up with them.

Hearing Luo’s response, Grandpa Ye slowly exhaled a breath, and his entire demeanor wilted.

He believed he had not failed the people, but he also understood the current situation the base was facing, and he knew it wasn’t easy for those following him.

Yet, if he were to truly harden his heart and abandon the people, then the beliefs he had steadfastly held for so many years would crumble.

Inside the room, neither spoke, and it was quiet for a long time.

Grandpa Ye slowly said, ”Never abandon the masses at any time. Only by coming from the masses and returning to them can we achieve final victory.

Although it’s tough right now, cough, cough, cough, as long as our hearts are joined with the people, we will surely get through the hardship.

If we lose the trust of the people, it will be difficult to regain it later.

Twenty thousand kilograms of food, let’s give out twenty-five kilograms per person. After this distribution, you can head to the Big Camphor Tree Base in the north you mentioned and move the remaining food back.”

Grandpa Ye spoke in fits and starts, saying a lengthy piece that seemed reasonable, but in Luo’s heart at the moment, there was a myriad of words he wanted to say.

But, no matter what he thought, he had no idea how to speak them.

He understood Grandpa Ye’s resolve, and precisely because of that understanding, he felt a bitter taste facing the current post-apocalyptic situation.

He didn’t know whether Grandpa Ye’s steadfastness, his own past steadfastness, was still right.

”Okay.” Captain Luo said the word with difficulty.

He didn’t know what consequences this would lead to, whether it would cause dissatisfaction among the other comrades, whether it would satisfy the Survivors, or leave them unsatisfied...

He didn’t know.

Grandpa Ye saw his reluctance and thus also advised, ”Xiao Luo, do some ideological work with the brothers, and have them avoid feeling emotional.”

Whether it was Captain Luo, Old Bi, or Old Yi from the security squad, they were all cultivated by Grandpa Ye and have reached this stage today.

With gratitude.

Thus, he was even more unsure of how to refuse Grandpa Ye’s request.

”Okay.” Captain Luo said the word again.

Then, he helped tuck Grandpa Ye into bed, saluted, and left.

Outside the door.

The security guard on duty guarding Grandpa Ye saw Luo come out, so he went into the room to take care of Grandpa Ye.

Seeing the complex expression and helplessness on Luo’s face, he wanted to ask but eventually didn’t speak.

After Luo left the room, he saw Xiao Liu and Xiao Ding looking at him, unsure of how to begin speaking.

His steps heavy, he looked back at the room where Grandpa Ye was and sighed.

Xiao Shi saw Luo come out and approached to inquire.

Luo explained Grandpa Ye’s arrangement to Xiao Shi, and she was quite shocked.

Turning back to Luo, she said, ”I’ll go talk to Grandpa.”

Then she rushed inside.

A few minutes later, Xiao Shi returned with a helpless expression mixed with distress. After expressing her thoughts to Grandpa, she had watched him cough for a long time.

She felt very unfilial, but she understood all too well the importance of food.

She could understand Grandpa, but she couldn’t believe that he held on to his principles so firmly.

Seeing Xiao Shi’s expression, Luo knew she had returned without success, so he stopped dwelling on it.

He walked to the center of the crowd and announced loudly, ”Twenty-five kilograms of food per person. Line up in an orderly fashion, and come one by one to collect the food.”

Instantly, the crowd erupted.

”So much food, and we get only this little? Twenty kilograms like you’re handing it to beggars?”

”Exactly! All that food, and we get so little, how many days can that last? It’s not fair!”

”Not fair!”

”Not fair!”

...

Suddenly, everyone was shouting about unfairness.

Knowing it would come to this, Luo felt helpless, but even more so, he was infuriated.

”Unfair? Anyone who thinks it’s unfair can get the hell out of this door, damn it! Do you know how many lives we exchanged for this food? If you can do better, go get your own. Complaining about unfairness here, fuck off!” Luo exploded with rage.

His face twisted in uncontrollable anger, he let loose with expletives.

The room quieted down instantly, and upon hearing Luo saying that anyone with complaints would get no food, everyone suddenly became good as gold.
