Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

The man didn’t care much, and in the evening he came over again. This was the first time Xiao Chen rejected him.

”Since you’re going to get married, don’t come looking for me anymore.”

”What? Getting brave, are we?”

”You’re about to get married, so why are you still looking for me?” Xiao Chen overcame her inner fear. Although this man wasn’t much of a talker, he was generally nice to her, giving her some money and standing up for her when her stepsister and stepmother bullied her.

”What does my marriage have to do with you? Do you think you can get rid of me? Ha, even if I get married, you’ll be with me for life.”

”I don’t want that. I’m grown up now, and I can find a husband and leave this house too.”

”Heh, dream on. You’ll never get rid of me.”

”Then don’t get married.”

The man didn’t say anything, but he still got his way.

As Xiao Chen grew older, she worried about getting pregnant, but nothing like that had happened in the past four years.

After that incident, he didn’t come around for several days, and she thought it might be over. But one afternoon, he returned drunk, handed her 2,000 yuan, telling her to hide it, then pulled her onto the kang. Just as things were happening, dad returned.

He barged in and saw the scene, then left without a word.

At that moment, I wished dad would beat him up to vent my anger. But that didn’t happen.

Three days later, the man was arrested. In the dead of winter, my stepmother was utterly devastated, and the household was in chaos.

A week later, I received the notice to go to the countryside.

By then, I knew going to the countryside meant suffering. But dad didn’t care about my crying or pleas; the stepmother gloated from the side.

I realized there was no possibility of change, so I went to the street office and used three jin of brown sugar, asking Li Lan Tian and Zhang Jianfeng to accompany me.

I harbored hatred, hatred towards everyone. When I first saw Wei Kai Yun, I knew he was someone capable, yet he couldn’t even be bothered to look directly at me.

Since that is the case, I might as well give up. Haven’t I suffered enough in my life? Toward my classmates, Xiao Chen felt no guilt whatsoever. Her current thoughts were problematic; she believed everyone wronged her.

I recalled the last time that man looked at me when he left, his eyes reddened. Over the years, I did have feelings for him, and thinking about his arrest, I remembered the 2,000 yuan he gave me. It offered some peace of mind.

Wei Kai Yun insisted I take a nap, but I was really enraged earlier; what sort of person was this?

On the sixteenth day of the lunar new year, Jiang Xinyu started school, and the classmates returned. Everyone’s spirits were quite good. Zhang Shuping treated me the same as before, and Jiang Xinyu didn’t show any signs of distress. After all, there’s no need to make things ugly, even though I claimed to have paid off Zhang Shuping’s favor; that was due to her changes, and I refused to be morally coerced.

Since she was willing to keep up appearances, naturally, I was too.

The first Saturday, Jiang Xinyu went out again, thinking about visiting households to collect antiques. So, she found something she liked doing.

Wei Kaiyun arrived at the Provincial City on the last day of January.

As he was about to get off the train, Zhang Jianfeng hesitantly hinted for the address, but Wei Kaiyun diverted the topic, treating it as mere chance.

Although after that event, the girl didn’t have any special reactions towards him, he remained distant with them. After spending over ten days together, he found the three of them fairly decent; however, he was much older than them and didn’t want too much interaction.

He went straight home, saw thick dust covering the place, cleaned up himself, and then went out to find people to arrange the construction of the rear annex of the house.

He found Jiang Cong, and upon hearing he was back, his friends were informed.

But since he couldn’t be found, it was He Jian Country who located Lu Weiqi and then found Wei Kaiyun.

”Director Wei.”

”Hmm, how are these two years treating you?”

”Not bad, currently working in logistics.”

”I’m heading to the Management Bureau tomorrow. In a few days, I should be able to return. Do you want to stay with me, given such situations might keep happening?”

Lu Weiqi nodded, ”Director Wei, I’m willing.”

”Alright, thank you for informing her of my news.”

Lu Weiqi shook his head, ”Director Wei, I didn’t do much. I just said a few words to Director Jiang.”

Wei Kaiyun smiled; regardless, he was very grateful to Lu Weiqi along with his wife.

”Director Wei, my uncle-in-law and others asked if you would join them for dinner at the restaurant tonight.”

Wei Kaiyun nodded, ”I understand. I’ll certainly be there. You should go back to work.”

Wei Kaiyun boiled water for his bath, washed all his clothes as well. He wasn’t accustomed to keeping clean like this, but ever since being with his wife, even in the forestry station, he remained thus. After tidying up, he brought out his bicycle and went to the restaurant.

In the evening, the group gathered at the restaurant. Seeing the increasingly youthful Wei Kaiyun, everyone was puzzled.

”Xiao Wei, what’s up with this?”

”What’s wrong with me?”

”Why do you look younger?”

”Younger? Same as before, right?”

All friends came over. When Wei Kaiyun was taken away, it was too sudden. After they found out, they tried various methods but had no leads.

”Xiao Wei, what are your plans for the future?” Ding Xiangxing asked.

”I’m not sure. I’ll likely be back at the textile factory, going to management tomorrow.”

”Returning to the textile factory again?” Liang Shaozuo asked.

”Probably, I’ll know tomorrow.”

”Where are you staying? Why not come to my place; our house over here is unoccupied.” Liang Shaozuo kindly suggested.

Wei Kaiyun smiled and shook his head, ”No need, I have a place to stay.”

Wu Junfei tossed a pack of cigarettes to Wei Kaiyun, ”These are quality ones, specially supplied for the top, giving you one pack.”

Wei Kaiyun smiled, opened two boxes, and offered them to the few friends.

”What’s up? Quitting smoking now?”

”I quit.”

”Xiao Wei, have you found another woman you like?”

Wei Kaiyun looked at Wu Junfei, smiled, and nodded.

”I thought so, you’ve changed a lot. Having a woman by your side makes a difference.”

”Why didn’t you bring her here for us to see?”

”She’s not around. When she comes here, I’ll introduce her to you.”

This was the first time Wei Kaiyun talked about his private matters, so everyone was quite curious.

Wei Kaiyun noticed He Jian Country was also surprised, feeling more satisfied with Lu Weiqi. Such a person was worth utilizing.

Supply was much better now, so Jiang Cong prepared an exceptional meal.

They were all curious about where Wei Kaiyun had been. ”Xiao Wei, where have you been the past two years?”

”In X City’s forestry station.”
