Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”Even without him, I can certainly raise the child on my own. I won’t let myself be wronged,” Jiang Xinyu said with a smile.

”Are you really content with that?”

”Sis, I still stand by my words. What’s mine will never be anyone else’s.”

Zhang Shuping smiled, thinking that Jiang Xinyu was still young. Once she matures, she won’t say such things, considering so much then.

And so, Wei Kaiyun went on with his daily routine of picking up and dropping off his wife, and taking care of the child at home.

Not only did he not get tired of it, he actually found joy in doing it.

At the three-month mark, Wei Kaiyun accompanied Jiang Xinyu to the hospital once again.

The doctor said the child was developing very well. She pointed out the child’s position on the screen to Wei Kaiyun.

”Doctor, I just want to ask, will we be able to have a marital life together in the future?”

Wei Kaiyun watched as his wife went to the restroom before returning to ask the doctor.

”Yes, but it can’t be too intense, and after seven months, it’s not allowed,”

Wei Kaiyun nodded and walked out, the doctor muttering behind him how impatient this man was.

”Where did you go?”

”I’ll tell you when we get home,” Wei Kaiyun replied with a smile.

”If you won’t tell, forget it. Let’s go buy some groceries, I want to eat twice-cooked pork.”

That evening, Wei Kaiyun finally ate some meat, and he leaned in close to his wife’s ear, ”Honey, did you really ask me what I went to do? I just went to ask the doctor if we could do it.” Then he started again.

Jiang Xinyu turned red with embarrassment; he’s shameless, asking such questions. Seeing the doctor in the future will be so awkward.

Wei Kaiyun knew his limits and stopped after two attempts, fearing to hurt his wife and the child.

While they lived a happy life here, they didn’t know someone was missing Jiang Xinyu very much now.

Kong Demin came to visit his pregnant sister, bringing two pounds of candy and ten eggs.

”Second brother, how are my sister-in-law and niece? I’ve been working all week and haven’t had time to come over and see them.”

”They’re okay. The child’s health is better than her mother’s.”

”Second brother?” Kong Mengjie looked at Kong Demin in shock.

”Don’t say anything. By the way, I heard Jiang Xinyu went to college?”

”Yes, it’s been over half a year now.”

”How did she go to college after graduating from middle school?”

”She attended high school for two years.”

”She’s really determined. She’ll be twenty-three by the time she returns, right?”

”Second brother?”

”I know, whether that woman can endure is up for debate. Besides, when the time comes, I’ll be strong enough, and won’t need her family. What’s wrong with finding someone I like?”

Kong Mengjie was shocked, looking at her second brother.

”Second brother, you like Jiang Xinyu?”

”Yes, she’s different from the others.”

Kong Mengjie remained silent, afraid to say that Jiang Xinyu looked down on her second brother. She noticed last time when she mentioned him to Jiang Xinyu and Wang Ailing, Jiang Xinyu wore a disdainful expression.

But her second brother’s thinking is too harsh; his wife is actually quite good, just too frail.

Kong Mengjie felt sympathy for her sister-in-law, knowing the feeling of being abandoned.

Kong Demin left his sister’s house, wandering the streets, unconsciously walking near Jiang Xinyu’s home.

He didn’t know which house was specifically hers.

But he wasn’t worried; he would know as soon as she came back.

What exactly made him drawn to Jiang Xinyu, he didn’t know either.

He smiled, ready to leave when he suddenly heard a familiar voice.

”Guo Liang, you go to work, I can go back by myself.”

”Just take care of yourself.”

”It’s fine, just pregnant, nothing to worry about.”

Kong Demin turned around and saw Wang Ailing and a man, presumably her husband, locking the door. That house should be Jiang Xinyu’s, right?

They were heading in the opposite direction, so Wang Ailing didn’t see Kong Demin.

Seeing the woman he once had feelings for as a child, he felt nothing now, but Wang Ailing still had a great figure.

He smiled and walked away, an unexpected gain; he found out Jiang Xinyu’s house today.

Kong Demin returned to the office of the Revolutionary Committee. He was now a small team leader and had his own office.

But he wasn’t satisfied, believing he could go further, and it wouldn’t take long.

He had planned his life out long before, and nothing could stop him. He wanted status, money, and women—all of them.

The image of Jiang Xinyu floated in his mind, this woman was quite extraordinary, worth pursuing.

”Demin, you and Xiao Ling bring the child home for dinner tonight.”

Kong Demin stood up, smiling, ”Okay, Dad.”

After her second brother left, Kong Mengjie lay on the bed, pondering her brother’s words.

She really didn’t understand what was so great about Jiang Xinyu. She’s significantly prettier, but not as pretty as herself.

She somewhat understood what kind of person her second brother was, just remembering how he blocked Wang Ailing when they were young; he had high standards for women.

Hearing footsteps, she didn’t open her eyes. At this time, it should be Huang Hongwei bringing the child back.

”Mengjie, what’s wrong?”

”Mom?”

”Nothing, I’m just a bit tired. Tiantian, what do you want to eat? Mom will make it for you.”

”Mom, let Dad do it; you should take a rest.”

Looking at her understanding daughter, Kong Mengjie smiled. ”Mom wants to make something delicious for you. Uncle brought eggs, how about Mom steams some egg custard for you?”

”Yes, yes!”

Huang Hongwei watched his wife and daughter, his face full of smiles.

Actually, he loved whatever his wife loved; he cared for the child she had given birth to. He would give a dollar to his daughter at home, highlighting the disparity.

Before dinner was ready, they heard a knock at the door.

”I’ll open the door.” Huang Hongwei saw his eldest nephew from his brother’s family when he opened it.

”Dalin, why are you here?”

”Second uncle, you need to hurry home, my grandma is not doing well.”

”What’s happening? I’ll go right away.”

”Second uncle, I’m going to tell Huang Yi, grandma insists on seeing him.”

Huang Hongwei nodded. ”You go; the three of us will head over directly.”

Huang Yi was momentarily stunned by the news of grandma’s passing, ”Brother, I’ll go back with you. Let me borrow a bike, and we can go faster together.”

The two young men pedaled hard.

Huang Hongwei entered the living room, seeing his daughter waiting to eat.

”Mengjie, get ready, I need to go to the factory to ask for leave. Mom’s not doing well, we must hurry back.”

”Okay, I’ll get ready right away, you go quickly.”

Kong Mengjie wasn’t a particularly bad person. Even though her mother-in-law, who could be like a grandmother to her, didn’t like her, she couldn’t show it. She would do what was necessary, and she would do it well and beautifully.
