Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Huang Yi and his elder brother arrived home in an hour.

He threw down the car and rushed into his grandmother’s room, where all the family members had already gathered.

Huang Yi kneeled down with a thud because in the countryside, when a person is nearing death, they are not on the bed, but are put on the door board to take their last breath.

”Grandma, I’m back, I’m back.” The eighteen-year-old young man clung to the old lady’s hand and cried.

The old lady opened her eyes and looked at the grandson kneeling before her, ”Huang Yi, Grandma sees you. Good, you’ve grown up into a big boy. Grandma can rest assured now.”

”Grandma.”

”Stop crying, remember, you are part of the Huang Family.”

”Grandma, I know, I know.”

The old lady glanced at the second daughter-in-law, who was no longer part of the Huang Family. She had been strong all her life but in the end, felt she hadn’t done right by this group of four. She hadn’t managed her son well.

”Wenhua.”

”Auntie.”

”Do you blame me?”

”No, Auntie, I don’t blame you. When I was your daughter-in-law, you never made things difficult for me.” Otherwise, Dong Wenhua wouldn’t have come to see her one last time as she took her last breath.

”I recognize you in my heart.”

”Auntie, don’t be like this. Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of the three children.”

Nowadays, Dong Wenhua doesn’t care about those things anymore. Her eldest son is ambitious and strong, and the two younger ones are diligent in their studies. She would spend the rest of her life with them.

Kong Mengjie entered and heard the acknowledgment, making her feel extremely uncomfortable.

However, she wouldn’t show anything at this moment, and Huang Hongwei also felt a bit awkward. He felt guilty for his ex-wife and three children, but he only loved his current wife, which made him feel uneasy and guilty towards Kong Mengjie.

”Mom, we’re back.” He also kneeled down, and Huang Yi wanted to stand, but his grandmother held his hand, and he couldn’t shake off the old lady.

Dong Wenhua saw their family of three and stepped back, knowing she wouldn’t have come forward had the old lady not called her.

”Alright, everyone who should be back is back. I have something to say.” The old lady took a breath after speaking.

”Hongwei, you owe your wife and children. I’m leaving soon, and I want you to leave your job to Huang Yi in the future.”

”Grandma, I don’t need it. I’ve already been confirmed as a regular worker. Grandma, don’t worry.”

”Good, good, my grandson is capable.” After she spoke, the old lady closed her eyes.

Crying and wailing filled the room. Dong Wenhua wiped her tears, bowed deeply to the old lady, and then went home. Her children stayed.

Since Kong Mengjie came in, no one had paid attention to her, which made her feel very uncomfortable. She felt bad as she looked at the son standing taller than Huang Hongwei beside him, since she had never been able to hold her head high about this issue.

The funeral arrangements had been long prepared, and many came to help and offer condolences upon the old lady’s passing.

Throughout the process, Huang Yi didn’t look at Huang Hongwei once. He was less than a stranger.

Late into the night, Lin Zi called Huang Yi to his room to rest, knowing there would be more to do the next day.

Tiantian had already fallen asleep in Kong Mengjie’s arms, but no one invited them as a family of three to rest.

Kong Mengjie had to hold her child and sit to the side, feeling extremely uneasy.

The next morning, filial sons and grandsons all had to wear mourning clothes.

Kong Mengjie held Tiantian’s hand and stayed at the back the entire time.

After the day ended, Huang Yi took his younger siblings home once and then headed back to work.

Huang Hongwei and his family also left, with his brothers still treating him with indifference.

When the old lady was alive, they acted out of respect for her. Now that she had passed away, they didn’t have to pretend anymore, and Huang Hongwei wouldn’t need to come back in the future.

”Mengjie, don’t take it to heart. We won’t come back in the future.”

Kong Mengjie didn’t speak; she truly felt uncomfortable. But she knew she couldn’t blame her husband.

”Mm, I’m fine.”

Huang Hongwei also felt helpless; his ex-wife had a good relationship with the villagers and got along well with his siblings. He too was not favored.

Kong Mengjie felt a wedge form in her heart, although it was only a small one.

Upon returning home, the family was exhausted and rested after washing. Kong Mengjie still rejected her husband’s concern.

The next day, Huang Hongwei received notice of an opportunity to study at the provincial textile factory for a month.

This was a good thing, and both of them were very happy since this chance had been earned through competition.

Huang Hongwei felt like he would have a chance to rise.

Kong Mengjie was also happy; a capable husband was her pride.

That night, the family of three celebrated their happiness with dinner.

”Mengjie, take care while playing at home. Although Zhao Zhongshuo is now well-behaved, who knows if he’ll come looking for trouble once I’m gone? Perhaps you should move with the child to the dormitory?”

”I can go, but won’t Tiantian’s sleep be affected over there?”

”True, it’s too inconvenient, and you’re pregnant. I really do worry about leaving now.”

”What’s there to worry about? It’s only a little over six months now; it’s fine. Go study in peace; this is a good opportunity, and you must seize it.”

Huang Hongwei caressed his wife’s belly, suddenly sat up, and gently kissed her bump.

”Baby, be good. Your mom has it tough.”

Kong Mengjie listened to her husband’s words, her eyes immediately reddening, feeling even more guilty.

In the following three days, the couple had a sweet time together, and their relationship became even better.

After her husband left, Kong Mengjie felt empty inside.

At first, she was cautious for a few days, but when nothing happened, she relaxed.

After returning home from work one day, she picked her daughter up from school, and the two went to the cafeteria to eat.

In the distance, Zhao Zhongshuo watched Kong Mengjie, who was heavily pregnant, and quietly followed the mother and daughter out.

Kong Mengjie didn’t notice, but after lulling her daughter to sleep, she felt exhausted, when she sensed someone next to her, she was startled. Upon opening her eyes, she saw Zhao Zhongshuo.

She was simply terrified. ”Get out.”

”Mengjie. Keep your voice down, don’t wake the child.”

”Get out quickly, or I’ll scream. This time, I won’t let you off.”

”Mengjie, I’ll leave soon, just let me ask you one thing.”

Kong Mengjie fell silent.

”Mengjie, this child is mine, isn’t he?”

Kong Mengjie stopped patting her daughter’s hand. ”No.”

”Mengjie, you’re a bad liar, I know it. Since that time, you certainly haven’t let Huang Hongwei near you.

This child is definitely mine, ha, he’s my son.” Zhao Zhongshuo placed his hand on Kong Mengjie’s belly.

Her hand swatted his away. ”Get out.”

”Alright, alright, don’t be mad. I’m leaving now. Mengjie, I promise I’ll be good to you in the future.”
