Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

After a while, Zhao Lizheng came out. Jiang Xinyu went back to the room to get the new underwear she made for Wei Kaiyun, handing over the thermal shirt and pants to him.

”Sister, brother-in-law, you two should rest.”

”Alright, Xinyu, our train is at five o’clock tomorrow afternoon.”

”Good, we can have lunch together tomorrow then.”

”Ms. Jiang, I will take Xiao Ping to school on February 23rd; Wei Kaiyun and I will go back that day too.”

Jiang Xinyu gave Zhao Lizheng a deep bow, ”Thank you, brother-in-law.”

”Don’t be like this, you’re Xiao Ping’s friend.” Being thanked in this way by Jiang Xinyu, he felt very embarrassed.

Wei Kaiyun scrubbed himself thoroughly all over, changing into the clothes his wife prepared. When he came out, there was no one left in the main room. He hurriedly returned to the room.

He saw his wife lying in bed, and there was a space for him warmed up by her. The child was on her other side.

As he stood drying his hair, he watched intently at his wife and child in bed, a feeling that words couldn’t describe.

Jiang Xinyu knew Wei Kaiyun was staring at her from the floor. ”Get on the bed, don’t catch a cold.”

Wei Kaiyun hung up the towel, stepped onto the bed in one stride, and drilled into Jiang Xinyu’s blanket.

He was so cold that Jiang Xinyu shivered, but she did not refuse him.

”Wife, I thought I’d never have this chance again in my life.

Wife, you must have suffered for our son, right?”

As Wei Kaiyun spoke, he kissed her.

Many times, in the middle of the night, he would reminisce about their time together.

”Be mindful, the child is beside us.” Jiang Xinyu gave a slight slap to the once again emotional Wei Kaiyun.

”Wife, I will be careful.” Even though Wei Kaiyun said that, Jiang Xinyu felt her strength leaving her.

”Let go of me; we need to see the couple off tomorrow.” Jiang Xinyu was a bit angry. Didn’t he go through half the night?

”Wife, you sleep; I’ll watch the child.”

”No need to watch him; he will cry when he’s hungry.”

Jiang Xinyu was really tired. With her mood relaxed, and after this intimacy, she fell asleep in no time.

Wei Kaiyun felt a stickiness on his body, carefully released his wife, and realized it was from leaked milk. He gently helped clean it up, feeling tempted again, but knew he couldn’t do anything about it.

The child was very well-behaved and didn’t wake up until dawn.

Jiang Xinyu struggled to sit up; her clothes were already on. Otherwise, she would have felt uncomfortable.

At this moment, Bai Hongying coughed outside the door.

”Aunt Bai, come in.”

She brought hot water, cleaned the child, changed him into cotton clothes, and then left.

Jiang Xinyu wanted to get off the kang, but Wei Kaiyun stopped her.

”Wife, what do you want to do? Let me.”

”Pour hot water into that basin over there, and hand me that white towel.”

Jiang Xinyu carefully wiped herself, then held her son, who had stopped crying after being dressed, and began feeding him.

Wei Kaiyun sat to the side, not taking his eyes off his son feeding, his own expression of love unbeknownst to him.

The little guy’s eyes were so beautiful, looking exceptionally bright and smart.

In the main room, there were sounds, indicating Zhang Shuping and her husband were also up.

Wei Kaiyun leaned down to kiss his son as he was breastfeeding, then pecked his wife’s red lips before finally putting on the new clothes she had prepared.

Bai Hongying had already prepared breakfast. It was especially sumptuous this morning, with dumplings they wrapped together a couple of days ago, all set for them.

To enjoy such good food in the morning, Zhao Lizheng was immensely satisfied, thinking it was quite delicious.

”Sister, after you eat are you going to rest again or go out?”

”Your brother-in-law will sleep at home, I’m going to have a look at the supply and marketing cooperative. The supplies here are more abundant than back home. I also need to buy train tickets.”

”Alright, sister, I’ve prepared twenty pounds of pork and twenty pounds of rice for you.

Don’t say anything, don’t refuse, it’s my sincere gratitude.”

Jiang Xinyu stopped Zhang Shuping’s words of refusal.

The couple seeing Jiang Xinyu’s insistent expression, Zhao Lizheng nodded, ”Then thank you, Ms. Jiang, we won’t be courteous.”

After breakfast, Bai Hongying and Zhang Shuping went to the supply and marketing cooperative and the butcher shop.

Bai Hongying knew Jiang Xinyu had very high standards for food, she never skimped on it.

Zhao Lizheng had already returned to the room. Wei Kaiyun took his wife’s hand and also went back to their room.

”You rest too. I’ll hold the baby and go to the other room to read for a while.” Jiang Xinyu climbed onto the kang and tucked him in.

”Wife, don’t leave, I want you by my side. I still feel it’s unreal.” Wei Kaiyun said pitifully.

It’s not just Wei Kaiyun who felt unreal, even Jiang Xinyu occasionally doubted, only believing when he repeatedly called her.

”Alright, the two of us will stay here while you lie down and rest.”

Wei Kaiyun had really lost a lot of weight. When he pressed down on her last night, he felt light as if a gust of wind could blow him away, even though he was such a tall man, he seemed to weigh only a hundred pounds or so.

The three of them lay on the kang, and Wei Kaiyun looked at his still-sleeping son beside him, feeling heartache.

How did his wife endure it? What did others think when she came back pregnant after going out?

The textile factory had many female workers, meaning there were also many gossips. How did she feel facing all those skeptical eyes?

And it wasn’t easy for her to come here for study; how did she pass the political review?

Pregnant for several months, traveling all the way here in the heat of summer, Wei Kaiyun couldn’t even bring himself to think about it.

The hardest part must have been giving birth, just by herself, with maybe just somebody hired to help. He had heard that childbirth was like stepping into the gates of hell; how did she manage it then?

Looking away, he gazed at his wife reading a book on the side, suddenly wishing for the years to pass peacefully, how wonderful it would be if life could continue like this!

Thinking that he only had a month’s short time to be with his wife and son, Wei Kaiyun felt a bittersweet ache in his heart.

It definitely can’t go on like this, he must find a way to turn the situation around. As long as he could stay with his wife and child, he would be content, with no other wishes.

Wei Kaiyun was thinking of ways, but all of them seemed unfeasible.

No, he absolutely has to find a way, whatever happens, he must stand openly and honestly beside his wife and child.

As a man, he felt he hadn’t fulfilled his responsibilities, having been with her yet unable to openly acknowledge it, letting her get pregnant without even knowing.

He could only see the present child, the hardships along the way, he dared not think about; the more he thought about it, the more useless he felt.

Wei Kaiyun was deeply frustrated, his spirits low. He had had enough of days like these. Even if it meant exposing everything to the leaders, he must seek vindication and be openly with his wife.
