Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Jiang Xinyu and her husband simply sighed at this affair, but over here it became the talk of everyone.

Meng Xiu Fen stayed in the hospital for ten days and really didn’t want to go back, but Kong Demin told her that he had already tidied up their home, and since she’s been here for so many days, it should be fine.

Unwillingly discharged, she felt much better after getting home. Yu Jing was also frightened. Although she hadn’t witnessed the bloody scene, she understood things a bit and thus became a lot more silent, often waking up scared at night.

The three of them were staying in a single room by themselves, and without others around, Kong Demin seemed even more unconstrained.

Although Meng Xiu Fen rejected him, it was of little effect.

”Demin, you’re the captain now, you need to find a way to rise up.”

”Do you have a way?”

”That person has a friend; I’ll try looking for him tomorrow.”

Meng Xiu Fen wasn’t very sure in her heart. She used to be the wife of the director and would skip work whenever she didn’t want to go. But a few days ago, some colleagues came to see her, subtly hinting that it was time for her to return to work.

People truly forget those who leave; what used to be flattery is now a simple reminder.

Of course, Kong Demin was willing; if he could be promoted, that would be even better.

Meng Xiu Fen took a trip to the city. Seeing her friend’s widow with a big belly, Gan Jiancheng’s friend finally nodded in agreement, and an official document was issued directly from the city appointing Kong Demin as deputy director of the Revolutionary Committee.

Being promoted in the twelfth lunar month was an unexpected good thing for Kong Demin.

He was more inflated and exuberant. Since Meng Xiu Fen always rejected him and her belly was over six months, he also felt somewhat burdened.

So he set his sights on the newly promoted director’s secretary.

A pretty girl, tall and curvy. In Kong Demin’s eyes, she was a goddess.

But this person was serious and didn’t buy into his advances at all. This made Kong Demin hold a grudge, feeling looked down upon.

He kept looking for opportunities, but the new director, who was just in his thirties, paid close attention to him, preventing any actions.

This left him restless and anxious. The more unattainable something was, the more he longed for it, always seeking a chance.

As the twelfth lunar month began, the time for exams was approaching, Jiang Xinyu had lost the baby weight, but the stretch marks remained. Fortunately, she was young, so it happened quickly, otherwise it wouldn’t be so fast.

The day of Wei Kaiyun’s departure was getting closer, with one month left until he had to return. Spending this year with his wife had become addictive to him, and he didn’t want to leave, so he spent his days taking care of their two children and clinging to his wife at night.

”Wife, I’ll leave on the tenth day.”

”Okay, I’ll call you every week.”

”Good, don’t forget it.”

”I won’t forget. I’ll call you with the two kids together.”

Wei Kaiyun hugged his wife, wishing he could take them all along. He knew it was not realistic and didn’t bother to say it aloud.

”Wife, don’t pay attention to others, okay.”

This topic came up several times every night, Jiang Xinyu didn’t plan to pay him any mind. The more he talked, the more nagging it got. Shouldn’t she be the one without a sense of security? Yet it was him who was always so anxious.

After the exam, Jiang Xinyu didn’t relax; most of her time was still spent studying. With her children, she didn’t participate in any school activities, so she had to have good grades.

Wei Kaiyun was out every day, preparing New Year goods for the household. Their son no longer followed him around, spending all his time with Shang Zhenkun.

Wei Kaiyun felt a bit jealous but knew this was for the best, so that after he left, Shi Jing wouldn’t feel upset.

A week later, she got her grades; Zhang Baozhen requested Jiang Xinyu help with Zhang Shuping, and instead of picking them up, she went to the forestry to find her husband, returning on the day when they distributed the notices.

The couple came to their place. Jiang Xinyu warmly received them. The New Year gifts prepared for them were homemade bread, five pounds of pork, and five pounds of lamb.

She sensed Zhang Shuping seemed dissatisfied, was it because she felt the preparation was too little?

At night, she whispered her feelings to Wei Kaiyun while leaning on him.

”It’s okay, let’s not prepare anything for next year.”

Jiang Xinyu shook her head, ”How can that be, if it weren’t for them, I couldn’t have found you. But I won’t indulge her like that.”

”Alright, do as you see fit; if not, I’ll directly use Zhao Lizheng’s connection, so you won’t feel upset.”

”No problem, it’s just that I feel a bit uncomfortable; I used to think Zhang Shuping was quite good, but I really misjudged.”

The next day, the two women went directly to the school. Jiang Xinyu’s grades were quite good.

”Xinyu, you didn’t even attend school but outperformed us.”

”I’ve been working hard, studying six hours a day.”

”We spend more than ten hours a day studying.”

Jiang Xinyu stopped speaking at this, and things were a bit awkward between them.

Zhao Lizheng bought train tickets for 8 a.m. the next day, so Jiang Xinyu specially made a hot pot meal to entertain the couple in the evening.

”Ms. Jiang’s skills are really superb,” Zhao Lizheng praised while eating, finding it extremely to his liking.

Jiang Xinyu just smiled and ate the dishes Wei Kaiyun served her.

”Mr. Wei, when are you planning to leave?”

”Leaving on the tenth; I have no choice.”

”I understand, being apart from your wife and kids is indeed hard. Just two more years; it’ll pass quickly.”

Wei Kaiyun poured him a glass of wine, ”Yes, less than two years left, it’ll pass quickly. If you ever need help, just call me, and I’ll definitely assist if I can.”

Zhao Lizheng nodded with a smile, ”I won’t hold back.”

Wei Kaiyun smiled and nodded. They were chatting quite well, while the women didn’t say much, just smiled and listened, with Jiang Xinyu taking care of Shi Jing eating.

”Xinyu, Shi Jing has been really well taken care of.”

”This little guy isn’t picky and eats anything, so he gets balanced nutrition.”

Shi Jing looked up, smiling, clumsily placing a piece of meat into Master Shang’s bowl, then pleasingly smiling.

Jiang Xinyu burst into laughter, how endearing this child was.

”Xinyu, after your man leaves, you’ll be left with the three of you to take care of two kids; it’s manageable.”

”Yes, this Master Shang is an old friend of his, especially invited over to take care of Shi Jing, lest he gets neglected.”

”I really envy you.”

Jiang Xinyu just smiled; she wouldn’t say much more to Zhang Shuping now. Her words must have some motives behind them.

Zhang Shuping was a bit dissatisfied seeing Jiang Xinyu not responding.

”Xinyu, you have vacant rooms, can I stay with my child? I really can’t rest assured leaving them. My in-laws are getting old, and it’s hard for them to manage too many kids.”
