Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Wei Kaiyun closed his eyes, thinking about how he could extricate himself from this predicament. He really didn’t want to get involved again, but otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to clear his name and stand beside their mother and son openly.

After going around in circles, he still had to return to the old path. Though he was unwilling, for his true love in his heart, he had to continue.

The son beside him suddenly moved, and both their gazes shifted over.

They saw his little mouth moving, utterly endearing his parents.

”Tomorrow, the three of us should go take a picture. I originally wanted to wait until the child’s first birthday, but now that you’re back, let’s do it earlier.”

Wei Kaiyun nodded with a smile. He was actually quite exhausted; the three-day journey and the morning joy left him weary, but he was reluctant to close his eyes.

”You sleep, we can talk about everything once you’ve rested. It’s okay, we’re right here by your side.”

Wei Kaiyun felt a warmth in his heart from his wife’s words and closed his eyes with a smile.

Jiang Xinyu knew Wei Kaiyun was asleep, so she wiped away her tears, not daring to cry in front of him. Although the lights were off last night, she could feel many scars on his body by touch. One could imagine what he’d been through.

She heard sounds outside. Jiang Xinyu carefully got out of bed. Closing the door, she let Wei Kaiyun have some good rest.

They both returned from grocery shopping. Since it’s almost the twelfth month, the supply became abundant, but one couldn’t buy much because the tickets in your hand were limited.

”Sis, I’ll cook something delicious for you today, I’m sure you’ll all love it.”

”Alright, what delicious things?”

”Sis, have you and Brother-in-law ever had seafood?”

”Seafood?”

”Yes, things like shellfish and shrimp from the sea.”

Zhang Shuping shook her head. ”We’ve only had dried small shrimp.”

”No allergies, right? Like getting itchy all over and breaking out in red bumps?”

”None.”

”Great, we’ll have that for lunch today. Let you all taste my cooking skills.”

The three of them were bustling in the kitchen, preparing braised pork, stewed mutton, and vegetarian dishes like cabbage and potatoes.

Around twelve o’clock, Wei Kaiyun woke up to find his son screaming his head off beside him.

He couldn’t just watch him cry, so he picked him up. The little one stopped crying once held, but his head kept burying into Wei Kaiyun’s arms.

”Son, this dad really can’t do it. Your mom should be here soon.”

Jiang Xinyu, having finished preparing the food, was freshening up when she heard her son’s cries and hurried up her pace.

Back in the room, she saw Wei Kaiyun holding their son awkwardly.

He smiled at her, ”Wife, you better check on him, he’s getting anxious again.”

”Okay, hold him a little longer; I’ll get some water to wash him up, probably wet himself.”

After Jiang Xinyu changed her son, she took him over. ”You go eat, it’s ready, can’t keep others waiting, you go entertain.”

Zhao Lizheng had already been awakened by the spicy aroma.

”What smells so good?”

”I knew you’d like this, Xinyu’s cooking.”

At this moment, Wei Kaiyun also came out. ”Let’s eat, Xinyu made some hotpot.”

”Let’s wait for her,” Zhang Shuping said with a smile.

”No need, she asked me to invite you three to eat.”

Although the two men had just woken up, the enticing aroma opened up their appetites.

After the child had eaten and fallen asleep, Jiang Xinyu came out.

”Xiao Jiang, your cooking skills are amazing.”

”It’s all in the taste. My cooking is just average, but this can be made into many dishes. I’ll teach my sister so she can make it for you back home,” Jiang Xinyu said with a smile.

”Xiao Jiang, you’re so enthusiastic, this meal is too sumptuous.”

”It’s necessary, there’s no way I can express my gratitude to you two enough.”

”Yes, don’t worry, I will take care of Wei Kaiyun. You can come and spend the summer in the mountains, it’s cooler than here.”

This was truly a surprise, Jiang Xinyu hurriedly nodded.

Afterwards, the atmosphere at the dining table became very harmonious.

After lunch, everyone felt they had eaten too much. Wei Kaiyun and Zhao Zhengli sat to the side, drinking tea and chatting quietly.

Jiang Xinyu took Zhang Shuping into the side room, looking at the things prepared for her, ”Xinyu, isn’t this too much?”

”It’s not much, you don’t always stay with the kids, you should bring more for them.

You don’t know, meeting Wei Kaiyun represents something for us.”

Zhang Shuping patted Jiang Xinyu’s reddened eyes. Although she didn’t know the specific situation between the two, when she learned Wei Kaiyun was single, her worries that Jiang Xinyu was a woman breaking up a marriage vanished.

”Sis, there’s still a lot of dried goods left, take it back, we’ll split it, you can make it for the kids to try.”

”Okay, I won’t be polite with you then.”

They began preparing the things to take, packing everything up, as they’d have to spend a day and a night on the train to get home.

At four in the afternoon, the couple left for the train station, refusing to be seen off.

The three of them lay on the kang, with the little one awake for a rare moment, his limbs flailing in his cotton clothes, looking particularly amusing.

”Wife, when did you leave after I left? No one went to the house, right?”

Jiang Xinyu shook her head, ”After you left, I felt scared, but I knew no one, so I went to the textile factory to wait for Secretary Lu, but he wasn’t there either. I knew then you all were in danger.”

Wei Kaiyun came over to hold her, letting her sit in his lap. ”Wife,” he could imagine her panic at the time.

Jiang Xinyu paused for a moment, ”That month, I almost went to the textile factory every day to find Secretary Lu.

Until he knocked on the door. I only saw him alone, and the fear in my heart mounted to the extreme.

He just told me you said to leave quickly, nothing else. And he firmly assured me you were okay.

At that time, I was in such a muddle, I packed up and left the next day.”

Wei Kaiyun kissed her cold forehead.

”Over two months after returning home, I found out I was pregnant.” She struggled to sit up, holding the child, who curled his lips adorably.

Wei Kaiyun picked her up once more, holding both her and the little one in his arms.

”I was really panicked then, didn’t dare get checked in the county, went straight to the city. The doctor told me the baby was perfectly healthy, putting my worries to rest.

At that time, I was just afraid that those months when I was often in tears and in a bad mood would affect the baby, but since the doctor said there was no problem, I finally felt at ease.”

After speaking, she lowered her head and kissed her son’s tender cheek, even during the most difficult times, she didn’t regret keeping him.
