Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Wei Kaiyun tightened his grip around the two of them even more. Hearing that she had been crying constantly in recent months felt like a knife twisting in his heart.

The child kept snuggling into his arms. Jiang Xinyu reached out to touch and found that he had peed again.

Wei Kaiyun put them down and got out of bed to prepare water and a towel.

The couple took care of their son, and then Jiang Xinyu nursed him.

Wei Kaiyun sat beside them, watching the mother and son. By the time the child was fed and had fallen asleep, it was already five-thirty. Bai Hongying had prepared dinner by then.

Bai Hongying made lamb bone soup for Jiang Xinyu and mantou. For Wei Kaiyun, she prepared spicy soup.

After eating, Wei Kaiyun took responsibility for clearing the table and washing the dishes.

Bai Hongying hurriedly refused. ”It’s okay, I can’t do this for much longer either, let me handle it.” Wei Kaiyun chuckled.

”Xiao Jiang, why don’t you let Shi Jing sleep with me tonight?”

Jiang Xinyu blushed a little and shook her head, ”No need, Shi Jing can stay with us.”

Wei Kaiyun helped Jiang Xinyu prepare the bathwater, which was her habit.

After she bathed, he used the same water to wash himself.

When he came back into the room, he saw the two of them changing the baby’s diaper.

Bai Hongying firmly refused to let Wei Kaiyun wash the diapers, taking the basin outside.

Jiang Xinyu still had her back to Wei Kaiyun, feeling awkward even though they had a child together.

Wei Kaiyun lay sprawled on the kang. ”Wife, tomorrow let’s go take some photos. Then, I’ll call Old Yang. I want to clear my name. For the two of you, I must stand proudly and openly behind you.”

”Wouldn’t that be dangerous? I called Old Yang, and he once said you might be in the Northwest.”

”Yes, I’ll find him tomorrow.” Wei Kaiyun said, covering himself with the quilt, undressing, and lying down.

”Did you get beaten up?”

”Yes, since I wouldn’t tell them what they wanted to know, of course, they used force. But don’t worry, it’s all in the past.

Wife, I will work hard for the two of you.”

”Don’t strain yourself too much. If it doesn’t work out, let’s just stay here with our child. We can live well enough.”

”No, I want to give you a good life. I want my son to proudly say that I am his father.”

”As long as you’ve thought it through. I don’t mind; I can live no matter what.”

After the child fell asleep, Wei Kaiyun picked them both up and lay down in bed with them.

Tonight was even more exciting for the two of them than the last time. It was only when the child woke again in the middle of the night that he reluctantly released his hold.

He changed the child, placed him next to his wife, and let her feed him while lying on her side.

Then he embraced her from behind. This kind of life was too easy to indulge in.

To his surprise, his wife dozed off while feeding the baby. He realized he was being too indulgent, quickly got up, moved the child, and then held her and closed his eyes.

The next morning, the three of them got up, ate breakfast, wrapped the baby securely, and walked to the photography studio.

They were the first ones there. Because they didn’t have a letter of introduction, they had to say a lot of good things before being allowed to take photos.

They took a family portrait, a couple’s photo, and with everything, it took them an hour just to get their photos taken.

Shi Jing was very cooperative, waking up just in time for the photos. The photographer really liked the child and took at least ten shots of just him.

After paying, they received a slip to come back for the photos in a week.

The child wet himself, and the kind photographer let them into a room to change him.

There was no time to feed the child, so the three of them thanked the photographer and hurried home.

After feeding the child, the couple headed to the post office together.

”I should call Qian Jun.”

Wei Kaiyun frowned; he already knew that Qian Jun had switched sides.

”If it weren’t for him, I probably wouldn’t have been able to attend college. No matter what happens between you two, he really did help me a lot.”

”Hmm.”

”I won’t tell him I found you.”

Wei Kaiyun was not worried about this. Based on his assumptions, Qian Jun was not having an easy time now.

At the post office, Jiang Xinyu called Qian Jun first.

”Secretary Song, is Mr. Qian there?”

”Director Jiang, hold on, I’ll go call him.”

”Jiang Xinyu?”

”Mr. Qian, I’ve been doing quite well lately.”

”Hmm, just stay there with peace of mind.”

”Are all my friends okay?”

”All are doing well. Have you received the letters sent to you?”

”Yes, I have. I’ve replied too. Haven’t you received it yet?”

”I’m not sure; by the way, do you need anything? The technical staff from the National Cotton Factory arrived; let me know if you need anything prepared.”

”When are they coming back?”

”In half a year, they return in May.”

”Then please prepare some seafood for me. Tell Hao Shichao to prepare it for me.”

”Sure.”

”That’s it, I’ll hang up now.”

”Okay, take care out there.”

After Jiang Xinyu hung up, Wei Kaiyun called Old Yang.

”Brother Yang is not here, but he’ll call this afternoon.”

”Hmm, do you know where he is?”

”In X Province.”

”Hmm, what time will he call in the afternoon?”

”At three in the afternoon.”

By this time, Jiang Xinyu had already gotten the phone number here and handed it to Wei Kaiyun.

”Write down my number; I’ll wait for his call here at three.”

After paying, the two went home together. Wei Kaiyun was completely satisfied with Jiang Xinyu; she always knew exactly what he needed.

Bai Hongying was cooking, and Shi Jing was still asleep.

Wei Kaiyun hugged Jiang Xinyu. He was suffering from a bit of skin hunger now, needing her to be in his arms.

”Wife, tell me about what you’ve been through.”

”It’s all in the past. What’s the point of telling you?”

”I want to know so I can constantly remind myself how incapable I was, making my wife and child suffer.”

”After I found out I was pregnant, I became more cautious, but as the weather warmed up, wearing less, I lived in constant fear. Nobody really knew, but they all started to suspect, like She Xiaoyun, Song Qingqing, Pan Xiulan, Wang Ailing.

They always reminded me I was gaining weight, especially She Xiaoyun. I think she noticed but didn’t say anything.

One day, Qian Jun told me he would come over for dinner, and after eating, he directly asked me if I was pregnant?”

Thinking back, Jiang Xinyu also felt she lived in fear and was too overwhelmed at that time.

”I used to know you two should have been together, but something happened to you, and nothing happened to him, so I didn’t say anything about his questions, just cried.

He finally let me stay home, saying he’d assign me to S Province and handle everything at the school and outside.

Every day, he locked me in from outside, only delivering nutritional supplements at night. He even saw me off to the train.”
