Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Kong Demin stopped the car at the door and honked the horn, but after waiting for a few minutes, when Meng Xiu Fen didn’t come out, he had to get out and go inside.

”Are we leaving?” Kong Demin asked the woman who suddenly hugged and kissed him.

”Not yet, we’ll leave in a while, let me satisfy you first.”

”We have to go to the hospital for a check-up, this isn’t good.”

”Forget the hospital, let’s go buy a house.”

The two were so caught up in their own passion that they didn’t notice the door was left ajar.

After they were done, they left full of smiles, not noticing the man from next door peering over the wall watching them.

The man next door smacked his lips with a smile, ”I didn’t expect something like this, truly unbelievable, but that Boss Xu lady is really something.”

Kong Demin and Meng Xiu Fen arrived in the city, listening to her directions, stopping near a hospital entrance.

They finally spent twelve hundred to buy a house and immediately transferred the ownership to Kong Demin.

After dining out, they hurried back home.

Kong Demin stopped at a door, ”You go in, I have to return to work.”

”Alright, make sure to clean it up when you have time, and prepare for a place to go in the future.”

Meng Xiu Fen felt a bit cold upon returning home, she still lit the stove. Hearing a knock at the door puzzled her.

”Old Lin, what’s up?”

”Xiao Meng, I need to talk inside.”

”It’s not convenient right now, Old Lin, just say what you need, Old Gan isn’t home.”

”Really? I saw you this morning with someone in the house, it was a great sight.”

Meng Xiu Fen’s face turned pale. ”What nonsense are you spouting?” She shut the door right after saying that.

She was really scared out of her wits. What was he implying by coming over today? Could he really have found out?

That evening, Gan Jiancheng returned first; Kong Demin went to fetch the child.

”Xiao Fen, what’s wrong?”

”Nothing, just a tad unwell. You’re hungry, right? We’ll eat when the two of them return.”

”Don’t do the work yourself next time, I’ll handle it.”

”Alright, got it. Today you’re off work, at least have something already prepared.”

Ten minutes later, Kong Demin and his daughter returned. Tonight’s dinner was unusual with dumpling soup and cornbread, quite decent.

Kong Demin noticed Meng Xiu Fen’s unsettled demeanor and felt puzzled. She kept glancing at him, was something up? But Gan Jiancheng’s expression didn’t give anything away.

By midnight, Meng Xiu Fen came to find Kong Demin, for the first time refusing his advances. ”After you left, Old Lin came knocking, he saw us together this morning. I locked him outside before he finished speaking.”

Kong Demin jumped with surprise, what to do now?

”Demin, can you be good to me always?”

”Don’t you trust me?”

”Soon Gan Jiancheng will know about this, what’ll we do?”

Kong Demin was stunned too, indeed, if this got to Gan Jiancheng, it’d be big trouble.

The two sat in silence for a long time, clueless about what to do?

It was getting late, Meng Xiu Fen returned to the room, lying sideways next to Gan Jiancheng, her mind a swirl of emotions.

Gan Jiancheng had been good to her, since their marriage. Even though she knew his real background, she couldn’t deny his kindness to her.

But what to do if Gan Jiancheng found out? There’s no way he’d spare Kong Demin.

That absolutely can’t happen. It can’t be this way. Meng Xiu Fen was already gripped with paranoia. So the two of them kept a low profile for some time, both fearing Gan Jiancheng.

Two weeks later, it was already mid-December. The Revolutionary Committee was particularly busy, but Gan Jiancheng always cared about Meng Xiu Fen amid his busy schedule.

This day, she returned home an hour earlier, meeting Old Lin at the doorstep.

”Tsk tsk, Xiao Meng, if you keep avoiding me, I might tell someone in due time.”

”What do you want?” Meng Xiu Fen asked fearfully as Old Lin followed her into the courtyard.

Old Lin merely laughed and headed straight into the house. He knew Gan Jiancheng and the rest would come home late, and as he thought, no one else was at home, so his courage grew.

Meng Xiu Fen reluctantly followed him inside. ”What do you want exactly? Even if you say something, no one will believe you, people know your character.”

”Hehe, should we try? I could go and talk outside?”

”What do you want exactly?”

”Hehe, seeing you like that, I’ve got ideas too.”

”Are you dreaming?”

”Well, no choice then, the first person I’ll inform is Gan Jiancheng. Do you think he’ll question whose child you’re carrying?”

Meng Xiu Fen feared this aspect, but looking at the unkempt Old Lin, she felt completely repulsed.

Old Lin noticed her hesitation, approached smiling, and wrapped an arm around her shoulder, ”Today’s perfect, everyone’s out. You treat me like you treated your dear husband once, and I’ll keep this quiet.”

”Get lost, go say whatever you want.”

”Hehe, you’re not afraid? Giving me a chance won’t cost you anything, why not try me out?” He said, pushing Meng Xiu Fen into the bedroom.

”No, I won’t.” How could Meng Xiu Fen possibly free herself from a man’s grasp?

That day, Gan Jiancheng had sped up work and left ten minutes early. He rode his bike straight home.

At the entrance, he noticed the door slightly open and faint sounds of his wife calling from inside.

Something’s amiss, he quickly put down his bike and tiptoed into the courtyard.

Now he heard it clearly. Old Lin was bullying his wife. Gan Jiancheng couldn’t stand it anymore, grabbed a chopping knife nearby, and charged inside, bursting in to see Old Lin pressing down on his pregnant wife, stripping off her clothes.

Gan Jiancheng’s eyes turned red; he swung the knife straight at Old Lin’s head.

Old Lin sensed the commotion from behind and instantly ducked; the blow missed. He turned to face Gan Jiancheng’s fiery eyes, scared stiff.

”No, listen to me, Old Gan, listen, it’s not what it looks like.”

Meng Xiu Fen feared Old Lin spilling the truth, cried out loud, she just wanted to cause a big stir.

Gan Jiancheng, now utterly deaf to reason, charged again with the knife.

Old Lin, being a coal miner, had strength and stamina, better than office-bound Gan Jiancheng, and the two wrestled fiercely.

Meng Xiu Fen sat on the bed crying. Her wails grew louder.

Suddenly saw Gan Jiancheng strike a vicious blow to Old Lin’s head. Blood gushed everywhere.

Meng Xiu Fen screamed in terror. Gan Jiancheng dropped the knife, rushed to his shrieking wife, ”Xiao Fen, are you okay?”

Meng Xiu Fen just screamed; how could she have seen anything like this before?
