Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Kong Mengjie doesn’t look at him either. ”Mom, can you go buy some tofu? I want to make braised tofu.”

”Alright, you two stay here, comrade, please make yourself at home. Stay and have lunch at home.”

”Thank you, Aunt.”

Once it was just the two of them left in the room, Zhao Zhongshuo stood by the bedside, looking at the newborn baby.

”Mengjie, the son looks so much like me.”

”Zhao Zhongshuo, I hope you won’t come around in the future.”

”Mengjie, don’t be like this. This is my son. Leave the Huangs and be with me.”

”I definitely won’t. Zhao Zhongshuo, I still say the same thing. If you really want what’s best for me and our son, I beg you to stay far away from us, don’t come close, even if it’s for the child.”

Zhao Zhongshuo took a painful look at the woman he loved, then lowered his head to look at the child.

”If you want to force us into desperation, then keep on pestering.”

Suddenly, Zhao Zhongshuo leaned in and gently kissed Kong Mengjie’s red lips.

”Alright, I’ll try my best not to appear in front of you all in the future. Mengjie, rest assured, I will certainly be good to you and the child,” Zhao Zhongshuo said before leaving.

Kong Mengjie felt uneasy in her heart. In her heart, she still liked Huang Hongwei and didn’t want to betray him anymore.

Zhao Zhongshuo wandered around the streets, lost and distraught, and upon returning home, he didn’t even look at his mother and sister, but headed straight into his room. Although he had worked the night shift, he had no intention of sleeping.

His mind was filled with thoughts of Kong Mengjie and the child. At times he felt overwhelmed with excitement, at other times he was dejected.

”Little Suo, come out to eat.”

He didn’t respond at all. If his family hadn’t opposed at the start, perhaps now he would have a happy family. Thinking that both children were his made him excited.

Mrs. Zhao waited outside for a while and still didn’t hear a sound. Since that woman got married, her son has been ignoring this mother who had worked hard to raise him.

Kong Demin left his sister’s house, feeling excited, and returned home. Seeing the door was bolted from inside, he knew the woman had already arrived.

He felt very strange. Being together was very thrilling, yet he felt very disgusted by her, thinking she’s too old.

Meng Xiu Fen heard the knock on the door and hurried to open it. It’s already been three months, and she’s been thinking.

The two of them have completely lost a sense of shame by now.

Afterwards, the two lay snuggled together.

”Deming, I brought food. Let’s go back tonight.”

”Alright, you’ve been missing me, right?” Kong Demin said with a sly smile.

”Mm, I think about you every day.” Meng Xiu Fen knew she had to keep Kong Demin satisfied to hold onto him.

”I’ll certainly satisfy you. By the way, how much money is at home?”

”Why?”

”Gan Jiancheng told me that in the future, the family assets would be divided between me and the child.”

”There’s five thousand yuan at home.”

”Five thousand? That’s not too bad.”

”There’s also an apartment in the city, all under my name.”

”Haha, not bad. My son will have a little fortune in the future.”

”Don’t worry, I’ll certainly save up for the son.” Meng Xiu Fen isn’t foolish. She definitely won’t reveal the money now; Gan Jiancheng knows about the five thousand, but in reality, she has an additional three thousand in her hands.

She understands she must hold onto money herself, otherwise how could she support the child in the future?

”Haha, alright, save it, and watch it for me too. Don’t go with that old thing.”

”Mm, he now values this child, he definitely won’t think of doing that.”

”Haha, just afraid he might outside.”

”He wouldn’t dare. All these years, he only had one daughter, and he didn’t dare, even now he wouldn’t.”

”That confident?”

”Of course, if he becomes the director of the Revolutionary Committee, I could immediately bring him down. Do you think he dares to misbehave?”

”What leverage?”

”I swore not to speak of it.”

”Haha, you don’t trust me?”

”It’s not that I don’t trust you, I swore by myself, so I won’t say until I absolutely have to.”

Kong Demin is a smart person, he knew now wasn’t the time to ask. He wasn’t in a hurry, waiting till after the child’s birth to think of a plan.

Now, the most important thing is to get Gan Jiancheng to promote him promptly.

So that when he steps down, he could rightfully take over. Can’t be doing work for others to benefit from.

Having an idea, this matter was brushed aside.

The two fooled around all day, not even having lunch. They tidied up close to the end of the workday, and Meng Xiu Fen went home while Kong Demin went to pick up the child from school.

Since that woman died, the child’s health improved a lot. Although still a bit frail, he looked healthy.

In the evening, Gan Jiancheng returned home in a bad mood. Meetings were held frequently by the higher-ups, and he wasn’t a fool. He knew he shouldn’t get involved, but somehow, he felt out of control now.

”What’s wrong?”

”It’s nothing.”

”If you’re too tired, then quickly promote Deming to help you. Who else could be more trustworthy?”

Gan Jiancheng rubbed his wife’s belly, ”Can Kong Demin be trusted?”

”I think so. We promised him money, he would be tempted, if he wants it, he’ll behave.”

”Have you told him there’s money at home?”

”Is that even necessary? A fool would know.”

”Hmm, we’re getting old, and this child still needs to rely on him. But I certainly won’t give him too much.”

”It’s up to you to arrange. But I think you shouldn’t give him no benefits at all.”

”Alright, I’ll let him get promoted next month.”

”Anyway, I think he’s more reliable than others.”

Gan Jiancheng said nothing further, hesitating to promote Kong Demin so soon, knowing this man would marry his daughter for his own future.

Realizing he’s someone with strong ambitions, hard to control and manipulate.

Yet his wife’s words were true today, can’t give nothing in return either.

Must find a way to keep him in check, to prevent him from slipping away.

The next morning, the four of them had breakfast together, all cooked by Gan Jiancheng.

”Grandpa, the egg pancake is really delicious.”

”Haha, our Yu Jing, eat more. Grandpa will make more for you tonight.”

”Mm, I want to eat it tonight too.” Gan Jiancheng truly likes this child. This is the remnant blood of his unfortunate daughter, whom he must raise well.

Meng Xiu Fen ate only a few bites, then handed some to Kong Demin, ”Eat it, your dad’s cooking is delicious.”

Kong Demin smiled, ”Yu Jing, dad will give it to you. Let our Yu Jing eat more.”

Seeing this action pleased Gan Jiancheng greatly, thinking this is how it should be.
