Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Opening the panel, Yang Yu scanned his attributes from head to toe; the person who had come was indeed called Pingru Kejie Wulais.

Closing the panel, Yang Yu looked at Pingru in front of him and asked, ”What’s the matter? Can it wait until we return to the border?”

”This is a fairly important issue, and I have some matters to deal with later… don’t want to delay too much time… It will take quite some time, that’s all.”

Pingru hemmed and hawed but still stated what he hoped Yang Yu would do,

”It’s like this, I hope you can provide me with a certificate confirming that I indeed dealt with those orc violators. Correspondingly, I will also give you a certificate confirming you completed the task.

Don’t underestimate this; it’s quite important.

Rest assured, as I promised you before, I absolutely will not make a move against you all before you leave the Luo Ze Empire.

I swear by the name of my adventure group.”

Yang Yu put his hand on his chin, pondered for a while, and then said, ”Now that you mention it, there is indeed a necessity to do so. Going back empty-handed makes it impossible to report.

Both you and I are in a hurry, but writing a letter does indeed take some time.”

Yang Yu leapt down from Lotcar’s back, swept his gaze over the troops, and called over a reliable military officer,

”Kharogre, to avoid any problems, take the troops back first. We have the Silver Wolf; we’ll catch up with you in no time.

After returning to the country, immediately report the situation to General Dongmu. He might assign us a new task since the situation in Wansheng Country is still not optimistic.”

A deer-horned young man saluted Yang Yu militarily, responding firmly ”Received!” and then immediately organized the troop withdrawal.

Soon, only Yang Yu and his companions remained at the scene.

Yang Yu smiled towards Pingru, who wasn’t far away, ”Sorry, I’m just this cautious.

If something happens at the foot of this mountain, the Beastman Army might not be able to withstand it.

After all, you are Human, and I am Beastman.”

Yang Yu’s words were laden with implications. Pingru shook his head, ”That’s appropriate, considering what just happened. It’s good to be cautious. I have urgent matters to attend to, so let’s finish quickly and then we can each go about our other business. Do you have paper and pen? If not, I have some here.”

Pingru activated Storage Magic, pulled out paper and a pen, and handed them to Yang Yu.

Yang Yu took the paper and pen, found a flat surface, and began to write the ins and outs of the matter; Pingru directly used magic to write through the air.

Bai Jin and Iyas quietly watched Yang Yu and Pingru write their letters.

Suddenly, He Meng popped her head out of Bai Jin’s hood without warning, looking this way and that for something, and finally, she turned toward Pingru, who was inserting the letter into the envelope, sensing something odd.

As a member of the Royal Slime family, He Meng could sense the presence of other Slimes to a certain extent.

Now, she sensed a trace of Slime presence on Pingru, not strong, but definitely there.

He Meng hopped from Bai Jin’s shoulder onto Lotcar’s back, grew two short little arms, pointed one at herself, and the other at Pingru in the distance, swaying back and forth, trying to communicate what she sensed to Bai Jin.

But with only body language, it was quite difficult to clearly explain the current situation, and Bai Jin did not immediately understand He Meng’s intention.

After sealing his letter, Yang Yu handed it to Pingru, who also had just sealed his letter:

”I’ve already finished writing. Do you need to check the contents?”

”No need, I trust your character.”

Pingru took the letter from Yang Yu and handed over the letter she held.

At the moment when they exchanged the letters, He Meng felt a trace of unease, swiftly moving across Dortkal’s body and flying toward Yang Yu.

Just as He Meng leapt into action, Yang Yu had already taken the letter from Pingru’s hand.

However, Yang Yu did not put the letter into his system, but instead tossed it into the air and drew his sword from the system.

In an instant, a black musical note burst forth from the paper, assaulting Yang Yu; he stepped back thrice in quick succession to evade the black note’s attack.

Before Yang Yu had a chance to catch his breath, a large ball of flames materialized in Pingru’s hand and was hurled towards him.

Yang Yu didn’t reach for his shield but caught He Meng, who had flown over to him, and threw her at the flames.

”He Meng, expand!”

Caught off guard by being suddenly tossed, He Meng first paused, then realized Yang Yu had known something was off with Pingru in front of him—she had worried for nothing.

He Meng expanded her body, transforming into a shield for Yang Yu, blocking this fiery attack for him. The raging flames rushed over He Meng’s pale blue form, continuously burning her HP.

”Thanks.”

As soon as the flames subsided, Yang Yu executed a ”Protective Assistance Charge” to reach He Meng’s side, closing the distance with the fake Pingru in one go and grabbing the scorching, curled-up He Meng to throw her back.

Just as He Meng had thought, Yang Yu had seen through the imposter Pingru from the very start.

Even though this false Pingru had the same stats as the real one, Yang Yu still saw through her.

He could tell because this Pingru’s total mana didn’t match that of the real one he had encountered just before.

The real Pingru had channeled a considerable amount of her own mana into casting super large magic, leaving her mana at only half. In contrast, this imposter’s mana was nearly full, obviously prepared for this eventuality.

Pingru’s attire was particularly distinctive, recognizable by anyone who had seen her before.

Sending such a conspicuous woman to attack Luoyu City was as if they were afraid others wouldn’t recognize her.

According to the description, it was easy to narrow the search to her.

To attack the elf village, members of the Curse Sect had dressed deliberately.

When Iyas described the person attacking Luoyu City, Yang Yu also considered the possibility of the Curse Sect disguising as someone else to shift the blame.

As long as they could incite hatred in the Elf Forest toward that person, making everything seem premeditated, and thus harboring the resentment towards the country that allowed their crimes, they could involve the elves in this war.

S-class adventurers could not intervene in a war between two countries.

Even if they had some contact, it was very unlikely for the subhuman troops to connect with human S-class adventurers and for their plan to be immediately exposed.

From Yang Yu’s perspective, it was a relatively perfect strategy.

To carry out this plan, to make it approach perfection, one would need a being capable of nearly perfect impersonation.

Such characters exist in many games, often entailing ”the antagonist turns out to be one of my teammates” scenarios.

Realizing that such enemies could exist in this world, Yang Yu was naturally always on guard.

Wielding the sword blade, he performed a ”Double-sided Slash” at the fake Pingru.

A pale blue protective shield unfolded around the imposter Pingru, blocking Yang Yu’s attack.
